Africa needs fewer countries, not more.

We need to stop entertaining the idea that tiny variations in regional dialects somehow constitute distinct separate cultures deserving of their own country.

I thought up a whole bunch of different stories for how everything happened.

I think there, the Zulu never genocided everybody, so that's how you end up with Lesotho being twice the size, and the Federated States, because when the Brits came, the Boers could work together with the native Sesotho and Zulu.

Although, it would mean that the Boer states would end up being smaller, but still free!

Whites in Rhodesia were able to maintain control, because the Venda had their own country and the Shona were split with the new Zimbabwe on the coast.

I spent way too much time on this.

I tried to make this as historically plausible as possible.

Changes:
-USA never gets to expand west because of the (now independent, former) French colony and Mexico. Instead, (Luisiana? Quebec?) is the one to reach the West coast of North America and purchase Alaska from the Russians. With no US, Mexico doesn't lose half its territory on its first war. However, both Mexico and (Louisiana? Quebec?) lose some of their eastern territory to the US (mostly for aesthetic purposes), including Florida and the Caribbean (the whole thing, the US is a major Atlantic naval power). Belize, Suriname, Guyana and French Guiane also become part of the United States.

-Latin America doesn't balkanize as much after independence. I tried to respect the boundaries of the viceroyalties, but I kept the FRCA instead of adding it to Mexico because I like the idea of it, plus Mexico is already massive enough to begin with. Gran Colombia is part of FRCA because a) the name still fits b) more unions is exactly what Simon Bolivar would have wanted and c) Panama alone sticking out of Colombia is ridiculous considering the jungle between the two countries. Panama alone joining the FRCA could have worked too.

-The UK breaks up into Ireland, Scotland and England(+Wales). Luxembourg joins Belgium. Croatia joins Slovenia.

-Kaliningrad becomes Polish. However, Belarus becomes part of Russia. The northern Caucasus regions also split of Russia, as does a "Siberian federation". On a related note, I also added Crimea as part of Russia, which isn't reflected on the template map.

-Kosovo is now part of Albania. FYROM is part of Bulgaria and Moldova is part of Romania. On a related note, I added Montenegro to the map.

-The Western Sahara meme stops.

-Greater Syria isn't broken up into a bunch of made up states, and the whole of it becomes part of the United Arab Republic (which survives) with Egypt. Israel doesn't exist, but Jews are a majority in the Palestine region.

-Britain doesn't fuck up the Indian Subcontinent by breaking India up.

-China loses Tibet, Uyghurstan, Inner Mongolia and Manchuria. Inner Mongolia unites with Mongolia.

-Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea aren't separate states.

-The Philippines, Taiwan, Korea and Sakhalin are Japanese clay. I don't like the idea of the Philippines being part of Japan, but it's probably what would happen if the US isn't the one to take them from the Spanish. Taiwan and Korea are more straightforward.

I colored as much as I could be bothered with. The US, Russia and China are all the same color for shits and giggles, as they're the ones I'm fucking with the most. Also, red is important to all of them.

Atlantis was never going to be in the Atlantic, as islands don’t “sink” and even during the worst of the ice age when sea levels are at their lowest, the Azores and/or the Canary Islands (the only options in the Atlantic) are still just a handful of tiny islands.

On the other hand, “Sundaland” in Indonesia was a huge area and due to climatic conditions, would have been pretty comfy with plenty of rivers running into the S.China Sea and a nice place to start an early advanced civilization and when it gets flooded as the planet warms up, the “Atlantean” survivors would have migrated to India and from there, the myth spread to Egypt and onto Greece where the story was altered to place it in the Atlantic (which the Greeks knew about).

I spent a long time making this, so I'll post it again.

So here the Cuban Missile Crisis goes south and all-out war ensues.

Decades pass and this is all the civilization that is left, so that's all that's shown on the map.

The UK/G and 2USSR are locked in a perpetual state of conflict.

2USSR has problems of it's own on the Eastern front. Thankfully for them, they have allies in the East. They still repel the new fascist state of Japan, however.

The West is all fucked. The UK/G struggles to keep up an alliance with SF while quelling the various independent states across Europe. The DM Zone was agreed upon in order to balance the power distribution on the continent.

The Middle East is made up of GE and GIS, who are locked in an on-going crusade for the whole Middle East. The other nations pay little attention to this.

Military dictatorship America gets Canada, Cuba, Baja California, Costa Rica, Panama, the Philippines, Afghanistan, Aden, Muscat, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, Shi'ite Saudi Arabia, Shi'ite Iraq, and is currently colonizing a new homeland for African-Americans in West Africa.

France and Britain get all their old African stuff back, except for the American colony in West Africa. Britain gets back Malaysia, Singapore, and the Empire of India. France gets Indochina again.

Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macau unite to form a trade league and become the next Asian tiger economy.

Spain gets Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru back because they're shitty countries that can't function on their own. Brazil and Portugal reform the United Kingdom of Portugal, the Algarves, and Brazil. Argentina gets Paraguay and Bolivia because Argentina can improve them. Chile stays independent because they're an actually developed nation.

Russia gets the 'stans, Ukraine, and Belarus.

Germany gets nothing because fuck you Germany.
