Leveling up the Strength confidant is boring and tedious, and everybody cheats, but the benefits are too good to pass up
The narrative suffers from the anime thing of always feeling the need to escalate which thematically works until you fight a god. Some epic final boss fight with a god in heaven isn't thematically appropriate with being "Phantom Thieves". Thank god the actual final conflict is much more thematically appropriate and compelling than "EVERYONE RAISE YOUR HANDS TO GIVE THE PHANTOM THIEVES YOUR POWER!!!"
