You watch the animation and pay very close attention. Shift your guard right and do a heavy as SOON as the animation starts, and you get a parry. It's not easy but doing it even once results in the Roach never trying to zone again.

Unblockable into side heavy into gb works very well for me. Also with my rep12 I only just learned yesterday that you don't have to press the feint button to cancel the unblockable, it stops if you just dash in any direction, just like berserker.
