Second for a game with text and conversations written in Middle English

3rdfor PROGRESS

Got the main UI pretty much done. Gonna add a few things, but now I can see how it's gonna look like.
feelsgoodman

Depressing lack of JavaScript games.

It's not depressing, JS is a terrible language.

...

xth for a game like Binding of Issac, except the runs last about 3 times longer, enemies have higher scaling health, and psuedo character creation (choose your avatar, choose your starting stats, choose your gun type). Yes or No

Because I'm making a 4D game.

6th for not posting progress on a soon to be dead thread.

>trying to follow a tutorial
>magic numbers everywhere
>had to spend 30 minutes tweaking the numbers to find out what impact they had because the dev couldn't be assed to call them something

please
dont do this

>Space RTS
big scope and even if you finish it, there is no hook here, it will be generic af
if you made it porn and put it on patreon you'd get funding lol
>Desktop Waifu
unique, very 90s, might have some problems implementing
>Ball Physics Puzzle Game
game jam tier
Story-based RPG
>no hook, no reason that you'd do it well
Singleplayer/Multiplayer Survival Game
>eh

>Classes ending
>Want to do monster jam
>Want to trying learning C#/Monogame by building something for the jam with it
>Worried by the time I getting basic input handling and collision to work the jam will be over

As much as I enjoy some gamemaker features, it can really frustrating to work around for some of the stuff I want to do. I also don't think something as big as Unity is necessary for a small gamejam game.

What do? I'm a mediocre programmer but I'm decent at problem solving.

You can start early. Start right now, learn the tools.
Also it's not a big deal if you don't finish. As long as you've actually learned things during the process.

>space porn rts
fund it

Stone / petrification effect.

Good feedback thanks.
I was ready to give up on my desktop waifu game. It's nearly finished. Can't show progress now though because I'm halfway through reworking some major code

"Kicked in the balls" status?

>it's another topdown shooter with rotating guns
>it's another sidescrolling platformer with a gimmick
>it's another sidescrolling rpg with roguelike elements
>it's another room-based, semi-procedurally generated roguelite
>it's another metroidvania

Only a little bit of progress. Now I can select and move units around. Units on the same team can pass through each other, but can't pass through enemy units.

>Even the little lines break out of the petrification

>implying your opinion matters to anyone

@176450070
this was a decent shitpost the first time and it spawned a meme, but now you're just recycling content. apply yourself

>my game isn't described
I feel special.

girls are for ____ing

Its probably a low level meme peddler. The meme engineers are working on the next great shitpost.

>I should definitely post this on agdg
Thought the sperg to himself.

TELL ME WHY TELL ME WHY

That's a super weird projection, user. Why can't you have isometric?

back in business

sad!

Give the player the option to perform harakiri

how's 10th grade treating you?

*sudoku

I wanted to try something different. If it doesn't look right after adding non-placeholder sprites I can always change it.

already a feature.

>replying to the same shitpost that has been forced in the past 3 or 4 threads
For what purpose?

See zeroquest.itch.io/ for someone who's walked this path before

Also rip didn't realize how long they'd been gone

i fucking want this game.

tell me you'll add throwable weapons

You're a good dev

already a feature.

You're actually my favorite user but don't tell the other devs.

>wah I keep getting killed by a fucking javelin from off screen
>"git gud"

geez I just wanted to ask an question

Fuck, I'm at a loss. I'm finally minded to make something, but I think the scope is too big. Basically, something like Necropolis, but a focus on spellcasting instead. I've never gamedev'd before.

that's a guy though

for nodevving and playing pretend, apparently

Hope you're managing that crippling depression!

Considering this facial rig was done in 15 minutes, mocap playback doesn't look that bad..I guess? I am starting to think integrating facial mocap into UE instead of a DCC tool was a bad idea though.

finally I can be a big titted anime

i want to die

Always start (very) small. Work on one thing at a time and grow your project from there.

great as all ways
porn game?
>Also rip didn't realize how long they'd been gone
shame looks interesting

As a one man army, bad scoping will bury you.

Quickly get a good (fun) prototype, build something small, and if it's actually enjoyable, you can flesh it out slowly.

Obviously this work flow might not work for every type of game... but you might want to reconsider what kind of project you want to work on if your game only works with huge scoped shit.

Most likely.

did you make that model

How early should you introduce your vidya to agdg?

reminder that 3d games are the future and require far less work than the kind of pixel art that's considered acceptable nowadays

Just like right now. 90% of the games here are in early alpha.

As soon as you have two lines of code and one piece of art

I for one don't enjoy seeing the early formative stages of a game ("look guys, my man can walk and collide with walls now!"), but someone is always going to call whodev on you unless you start posting progress from the moment you write your first line of code.

One piece of art isn't really required considering a few games around here.

@176453262
>butthurt whodev

anybody want to colab on a game for monster jam

A default Unity cube is still art

If you already have a bunch of shit done just say "I'm a whodev and this is my game. I'm gonna post progress here" and just don't post your game to demoday until the next cycle after you've posted a bit.

as soon as you have established an art style and/or unique featureset or literally anything that people will remember.
Like the other user said, nobody cares that you got collisions working in your barebones engine.
What we do care about is if you got some sickass particle effects or some fun-ass feature.

It's a temporary frankenstein. I was trying to find an art style I would prefer the most and have a dozen of meshes ranging from black desert online to overwatch.

It depends:
>Mostly in it for the money/want a game that sells
ASAP. If you get a bad reception, start a new project
>Mostly in it for fun, if it sells that's good too
Do whatever you want whenever you want

post the graveyard

post dev music
youtube.com/watch?v=to3y3cmWWRY

love your progress baby

kool :)

>ASAP. If you get a bad reception, start a new project
Why start a new project instead of fixing what's bad about it?

Talk to me about statistical distributions in your game

Depends on the project. Some ideas are just shit

google "polishing a turd"

long answer: to be successful, a game should be excellent on at least one axis, and competent on the rest. if your excellent axis (your hook) is not visible in your prototype, you have failed, and even if you put a year of effort into your game, the core is not good enough to sustain a game.

obviously this doesnt apply to every genre and every game. but for a 1ma, you should have one aspect that really sells your game.

>a project getting a bad reception on agdg is a sure sign that it's terrible beyond redemption
No, it's a sign that agdg happens to be particularly pissy or shitposty that day.

Here's your /agdg/ Veeky Forums cup VG league update. Had some internet problems. How you doing late night crew?

Virtual divegrass prep continues at a brisk pace. If your interested in helping out read the FAQ below.

Discord for FAQ/Submission/Discussion

As a reminder here's all the the stuff people can do from the easiest to the hardest:

Super easy: Suggest names/concepts for players

Really easy: Suggest music that fits the theme of /agdg/

A decent effort: We can hang up advertisements around the stadium that will appear during all games. These are 512x96 images. Want to advertise your own game? Absolutely fine.

A real effort: Contribute a blender head for a player. See the Discord for details on this. In short color only with diffuse mapping and don't create "islands" in your UV mesh. Reusing existing models you made is fine!

If you're curious about how virtual divegrass actually plays out there'll be a live tournament (not ours) running all this weekend starting Friday. Check implyingrigged.info for details.

(when responding to this place "4cc" somewhere in the post so those who don't care about virtual divegrass can ignore it.)

sometimes i use uniform and sometimes I add two uniforms together as if I were rolling dice
also sometimes I reroll if I get the same result twice in a row
you're welcome

for loop with break where you multiply the array elements and break when you encounter a zero

fuck off

If your idea is good, you will get good reception even here

did I stumble into a you love you lose thread?

Let me guess:

You're a failure and you need to review your stats.

>2017
>3d games are the future

I have legit never seen this happen. Does that mean there are no good ideas?

Reminder: Don't neglect your linear algebra

No it means you're a newfag

neat user

thanks, user

Reminder: Don't neglect your topology

i dont even know what sin cos tan do but i make games with unity

>tfw still using XNA in 2017
