So I'm considering getting a degree in communism...

So I'm considering getting a degree in communism. It's something that I find very interesting so I know I would be able to study hard while enjoying it and I would probably be able to do a PH. D. and earn a lot.. The problem is that unemployment is high, but I think I wouldn't become unemployed because I really love this degree but you never know.. There's always a risk.
Should I / should I not?

Where do you get a degree in communism at? China?

Why would you get a degree in it? How does that benefit you? You can study communism as much as you want in your free time at no cost, or you can pay way too much money to have it taught to you and then end up with a useless degree. I would just study it on my own time if I were you, user.

Don't do it.

If things go the way they are, you'll get black bagged for being a leftist.

If things flip 180 and go left, you'll get black bagged for being an intellectual

California at Berkeley
Because it's really interesting. It benefits me the way that I learn about something that I find interesting.
Well I can be non-political. It's not that I'm a communist necessarily because I study communism. If communism becomes a threat in the USA I could probably help the authorities understand communism.

I imagine he meant a degree in Political Science or whatever the fuck and just specialize in Communism
or sumtin

No it's a degree called ''Communist Studies''

What exactly would you do with a PhD in communism that would earn you a lot?

Go to a shirt shop and buy a hammer and sickle shirt. Congrats, now you have a degree in communism.

No he was correct you'll either be blacklisted or sent to the gulag for being an intellectual. Intellectuals are the first to go in any communist uprising.

Work in research or something..
Ha ha
So all college educated will be blacklisted in the future? Right..

You obviously have no idea what you want to do with your degree. You don't get a degree for the sake of it, you get one cause you want to get a rather specific job that you couldn't get otherwise. No, even a PhD doesn't make you immune to shit choices.

>Work in research or something
research is paid absolutely shitty if you're not a professor and who would've guessed, it's very hard to get to that position. Very few open professor positions, a lot of people applying for it.

If you don't have any job in mind that you want to do after your degree, don't do the degree.

>You obviously have no idea what you want to do with your degree.
How would I know?
>No, even a PhD doesn't make you immune to shit choices.
Then why do they exist if they don't have a purpose? That's what I ask myself
>If you don't have any job in mind that you want to do after your degree, don't do the degree.
But I love communism :( I guess I'll need to do some research on what jobs this degree leads to.

How about you read some John Locke and pursue a real degree/goal instead?

Why the fuck would you want an incredibly expensive degree in the studies of a system that doesn't work?

You cannot do anything with a degree in communist studies other than become a professor that teaches communist studies.

How about you heed this mans advice and don't be a retarded fucking communist.

Unless you get a kick out of starving millions of people to death, communist studies is a waste of time.

>implying communist studies isn't a real degree
why do people on here hate communism so much?
Because I find the ideology interesting
I would be okay becoming that
>don't be a retarded fucking communist.
who said I'm a communist?

>why do people on here hate communism so much?

Because it's a shitty ideology that has led to the death of millions upon millions that every so often has some retard saying "but wait, my super special snowflake version of communism hasn't been tried, it could totally work guiz!!1!".

To answer the question you put in the OP, No you shouldn't because your job prospects are on par with those morons who get women's studies degrees, possibly even worse and you'd end up in debt with nothing to show for it.

>Because it's really interesting.
College experience ;^)

you sound like someone who doesnt know what wishful thinking is. You wont ever earn a lot with anything related to communism. You will be a teacher at best, and that is probably going to take 3+ years after a phd,

This is actually not a bad major if you keep your grades as high as possible, especially at a good school like Cal. Learn one or two foriegn languages along with your major and actively participate in student government and clubs/organizations related to foreign affairs (try to get a leadership position.) Apply for prestigious government internships (state department, three letter agencies etc). Try to do a semester/year abroad in some country which is relevant to US foriegn policy interests. Forget about being an academic or falling for the PHD meme, it's a fucking shitty life choice which works out terribly for most people. Instead, if you focus your efforts on trying to land a job in intelligence/foreign service from day one you should be fine.

>because i really love this degree

YOURE FIRED.

>it's a shitty ideology that has led to the death of millions upon millions
So has capitalism? So has nazism? So has conservatism and christianity? What's your point?
I think there must be other jobs than teachers since the university teaches this degree.
Thanks for believing in me and thanks for the advice and that sounds like a good choice

I don't see why the study of communism would help improve any of those things you listed. Might as well get a degree in basket weaving and oh by the way I know 5 languages, have studied abroad, have international contacts, and was involved in tons of student organizations.

How old are you OP? There's nothing to ''understand'', you're not gonna become a ''communism specialist'' its a broken ideology and you will make zero cash. Get yourself a degree in economics before making stupid decisions like this.
