Yes, I've been gathering research.
It seems to me that western people are less lax when it comes to character reception compared to Japanese, but Japanese has this syndrome where they like mostly the protagonist and the most popular characters of the respective game, especially if this includes PERFECT WAIFU/HUSBANDO. But the westerners are not subject to this either, and it seems to me that they are more prone to controversy.

Well, not ALL characters had different receptions, usually, the most populars like Ouma, Kaede, Saihara and Amami have similar fanbases in both worlds so there isn't much to talk about. Ouma with all the different comments he gets here, in the end he's still on top, no surprise.

It seems that Shinguji had a lot of mixed opinions from both sides, some people might say that saw it coming but it's still surprising for me.

Hoshi, despite getting almost last place, japan likes him more than the western fanbase (that had a very negative view solely by his design). His case is pretty much: a lot of people like him but few have him as favorite character. That explains why he was the only character ranked low that Kodaka commented on how he knows a lot of people who likes him though.

Honestly from all the characters, the most curious case is Gonta. The jp and western fanbase are completely opposities at a point that Gonta fans here, hate Ouma a lot and it's otherwise in Japan. I still want to understand.

SO FAR, Shirogane wasn't that bad received like she was in japan but let's wait for the game and see if it changes.

Also I THINK that characters like Kaito and Angie might not go well, at least with tumblr.
