How necessary is wanderers minute/gauss barrel? While I get that they boost dps it feels like it can't be that much because of the increased attack time. At the same time I miss being able to move and attack, dodge aoes, or attack halfway quickly. I feel like they took half of the fun I got from the class by turning it into an off black mage

You can turn it off in situations that require lots of movement, but you'll have to turn it back on if you don't want your dps to be shit.

Yeah I was afraid of that. I think the issue isn't that bard has a cast time so much as they gain a cast time after teaching you that you can bounce around as freely as you want for 51 levels.
I'll just get used to it I suppose

it makes both heals and damage stronger, you want to prioritize a good weapon always

Healing scales off of the weapon damage too so yes you need one.
