My younger brother is old enough to get a car, and we want to figure out what to get him.

Whats the best car for highschool? What did you drive? Stories welcome

>My younger brother

his options:
>1k civic

>3k civic

prius

or a minivan

this OP, whores of all ages love jeeps, it doesn't even have to be expensive

literally go find the cheapest running wrangler and he'll be set for both high school & college

autistic nigger detected

Why not give him something better than a gimmiedat; an interview at a company for a job. Once he saves up enough money working part time he can buy his own car with his own money. You know, like how real life works.

Definitely get him a minivan OP. It'll be funny because it's ironic but it'll be nice because you can use it for practical reasons.

How is this not real life? Are you saying he's living in a simulated world or a video game of sorts? You're a fucking idiot. There are billions of people, all from different styles of life. What you said is completely fucking retarded.

My first car was a 1996 volvo 960. Not fast by any means but it was rear wheel drive so it wasn't too boring. Spun out once due to an evasive maneuver as a stupid bitch tried to merge into me on the highway, was perfectly okay no damage. Car would start shaking like it was going to fall apart when I hit 110 mph but overall it was a pretty safe car.

I say get him something like that: cheap, safe, (somewhat) reliable. Honda civic or toyota camry should be fine, or a subaru.

What kind of stupid question is this? Just buy him a corolla

Triggered much? Simply handing someone an item of value does nothing to promote work ethic or understanding budgeting. Furthermore they are less inclined to even care about that valuable item since they were given it for no reason but simply breathing.

Also since you're pretty dense yourself: The real world works by putting in effort and getting something in return. The implication being that the act of you handing them something they want just prevents them from maturing and being able to handle responsibilities other than classes.

V6 maxima is big and fast for a first beater

honda rebel

You're a fucking retard again that's all I have to say about this. Just because someone can get some nice things handed to them speaks absolutely nothing about their current or future ethics. Stay jaded and salty you fat faggot.

Check local prices for Saab 900s and 9-3s. They're the definition of over engineered sharing that title with Volvo. But unlike a Volvo you look like you know what you're doing in life.

If you can come down and haul his ass too and from school and work everyday feel free too.

Overall decency? Ford taurus, any year. Any toyota or buick sedan as well

Stay away from GMC, too many repairs. Saturn is ok but not recommended

Chevy trucks are ok and so are Ford's but only get him a truck if you need the bed. 98 rangers are indestructible

Jeeps are fun but Shit with gas

Order a tank if you don't like the suggestions

The fact you cannot even comprehend the possible validity of an opinion that isn't yours speaks volumes of your "maturity," not to mention character attacks as a defense of your position makes it seem as if you haven't had good parenting.

I drove a chevy astro and a chrysler town and country in high school.

Pack so many friends in those things, went on some dope adventures.

I'll take "What is Uber, city bus, taxi, carpooling, or a bicycle" for $500 Alex.

get a w8 passat 4motion wagon 6spd

Best high school cars are old cars
>look cool
>sounds badass
>makes you learn about cars
>is different
I bought this thing junior year and dd'd it throughout high school and still in college.
For some reason everyone thinks its a shitbox though, the plus side is I have never gotten keyed.

I drive this to college, its really comfy and hasnt given me any trouble, for a 5 year old model its really good

W-123

Get a job and buy it yourself you spoiled little shit

My first car was a 95 Buick Riviera. My grandmother sold it to me for like, $300. It was a shitbox but it had a supercharger in it which was fucking hilarious for a granny car.

>be me
>Driving back from the mall with my sister
>Going down the highway on a fairly steep graded hill, downhill
>brakes sink to the floor
>Tell sister get ready to meet your god
>Hit the bottom of the hill going 90 in a 55
>luckily there's a fairly long stretch of flat before you start hitting lights and traffic
>manage to coast into a parking lot

Also
>be in stage crew for the theater
>leave school late one night after tech week before a show, so like 11pm
>hear scraping sound as I pull out of the lot, engine is noticeably louder
>fucking muffler and half the exhaust fell off
>throw it in the back seat, drive a no muffler buick granny car around for the rest of my senior year

That car was so fucking awesome. It was even in granny gold.

volvo 240

Get that bitch an Agera

Something old with style is the way to go
Pic is a Toyota Celica Liftback GT

Cannot stand the fabric on the dash in these, shit gets dirty and is impossible to clean

A Porsche 944

Why make people do shit the difficult way when u can supply them the tools neded for it to become more efficient?
Guessing you think that being beat by dad builds character.

>Veeky Forums in charge of parenting
You're probably too poor to buy your kids anything nice, if you even have kids. My first car was gifted and it allowed me to get a better job without having to rely on public transport, waking up at 5am every morning for classes and having no free time due to having to take three busses. Cars are a necessity, but it's a shame you value "character building" over common sense.

my reply meant for

If you buy him that he'll either become a mechanic or hate you forever once the tranny shits itself

Nissan with xtronic CVT

I wanted to die everyday

>americans
this was my highschool car

kek'd

>everyone lives in the city

My first car was a 71 Chevelle I got when I was 15. About half a year after turning 16 I had to sell it and ended up with a Ford escort.

Volvo's are good choices. A used Lexus gs or sc 300 is as well. Then of course civics.

>Best car for highschool
Something that gets remarkable gas mileage, seats upwards of 5, and will be dead reliable.

As for pulling women? Any car should provide a massive increase to self confidence. I pulled solid 9/10s in an ugly 80s shitbox.
>Pulled more women than my buddy with his dad's money 08' Mustang

However at times I wanted a truck, my first car was a 1985 Nissan Sentra
>5 speed
>69hp new from the factory
>Upwards of 60mpg (61 was my all time best)
>High 40s MPG while red lining every gear
>$10 would last over a week, I was designated driver as we could literally go anywhere on minimum wage budgets
>Hit every party
>Numerous tow hooks
>Absolute blast in the trails
>Skid lever
>Mechanical fuel pump for glorious intentional back fires

As it was my first car, while in the cycle of poverty, I worked for said shitbox. Had to pedal to work everyday to earn funds for shitbox. Insurance was stupid expensive as
>No airbags
>No ABS

And I forget the other things they penalized me on
>16 on his own policy

Best memory?
>Karla

Okay
>Out in the trails, been drinking on a weekend
>Everyone is out driving around in the trails and my group is just chilling at the fire
>Grabbed my 30' tow strap
>Tied it to the steering wheel and fed it out the windows
>Turned the idle up, cranked my aftermarket lol Pyle speakers
>Told friends to pile on
>Got the car moving in second gear
>Drove my car from the rooftop idling around at 5mph
>Smoking a little smoke drinking a little drink
>For steep inclines I had to slide back into the window and drop down to first
>Idle was high enough it went uphills in first through soft sand

>Pedaling upwards of 15 miles is unthinkable
As someone that pedaled to work in rural northern Michigan, even through our miserable winter's, he could pedal if he wanted to.

an mr2 ofc

If you want to teach a man to fish, hes gonna need a fishing pole

Had a Fiat scudo
>9 seats
>fuckhuge trunk
>sliding doors
literally fit 2 motorcycles in there
Went on so many grat trips, occasionally we even slept in there
10/10 would do it again

If it's a girl, anything really, just has to be mechanically sound.

If it's the typical high school hooner though, something underpowered. So he can't get himself or you into trouble. Anything Japanese econobox with a 1.6l 100Hp engine - that's what you want to inflict on him. He can get something more powerful later with his own money.

Honestly, while I don't think Minivans ever had or ever will have a "cool" stigma, they certainly don't have as much of the negative connotation that was attached to them for so long.

I've rented and road tripped in a few minivans and I'll say that I wouldn't bat an eye at owning one as a DD. Would definitely still want something fun (or a truck), but Vans are comfortable, multi-functional vehicles that are easy to live with.

Lot of guys won't even consider mini van. But if you want comfy car for family with lots of room you can't go wrong with one.
Problem is guys want fun sporty car that can also fill the roll of family car.
Just get the mini van for family, and get dedicated sports car on the side

>If it's the typical high school hooner though, something underpowered. So he can't get himself or you into trouble.

this. i recommend the volvo 240 DL

I'd say an older small-medium truck with a manual box, since they're usually sturdy as fuck, reliable, and more challenging to learn to drive than your usual auto econobox. I had a '95 SWB Mitsu Montero/Pajero/Shogun/whatever the fuck they're branded as in your country, and it was a great all-around car - safe, reliable, pretty cheap/easy to maintain and a 2.5 with a manual box meant it was pretty good on diesel, too.

Not always a good idea. When I just got my license and was still in school, I had a shitty beaten up hand-me-down corolla and never got into any trouble. Then in college, I made some money from summer/part time jobs, realised I can spend it on whatever the fuck I want and bought a highly-abused gc8 STi, which instantly got me into both financial and legal trouble.

Underrated post.
I bought my first car myself about a year in my first stable job.
It never crossed my mind that my parents could just buy me a car as present while I'm still in school(!) I never asked them and they never asked me.

Now I keep hearing about kids getting cars just like that. What the fuck is that.

90s Civic or Accord
If you want modern safety and shit then get a Fit or more modern civic
