Me and my mother are considering travelling to the US to buy a car and bring in here, in Europe. I've got around 13k and I was thinking about a Trans Am, C5 Corvette or a 2006 Mustang.
My mom wants a big lifted truck, I don't know anything about them. All I know is that she wants a Ram. Could you guys recommend me a lifted truck for a my mum under 20k, and which state would be the best to buy cars in? Also, which car would you guys buy? Trans Am? C5? Mustang?
Get yourself a malaise era land yacht if you want something to stand out over there. I'd personally recommend an 80s Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria.
Best state would be a dry landlocked state like Arizona or Utah. Texas would be good as well.
Wyatt Thomas
Get a 2003 and newer RAM. With the 5.7 liter Hemi. It's actually part Mercedes design (2 spark plugs and shit) or 2003-2008 Cummins if you want diesel, basically looking for the 5.9 liter inline 6. The 2500 and 3500 that have the diesel have worse turning radius though.
A WS6 Trans Am or C5 would be pretty cool.
Josiah Evans
Those two cars look really American and unique, but for me I am looking something a bit more thrilling and fast. I really want to visit Texas.
>Get a 2003 and newer RAM. With the 5.7 liter Hemi.
>>They go for as low as 5k
Holy shit, she is going to love this.
>A WS6 Trans Am or C5
I agree, there's this other beautiful American muscle car which I cannot remember the name of right now...I'll try to find it
Michael Morales
What's the name of this car?
Jayden Gray
Camaro. Third generation.
Adam Johnson
Thanks, I see the run around 5 to 10k$. I find them beautiful, but are they good and reliable cars?
Nolan Cruz
No, American automakers before 2000 aren't reliable in the least bit.
Robert Williams
I see, I might just get a C5 or the Mustang in that case. It's amazing how cheap both of those sexy cars are in the US.
James Carter
Ignore the other guy. He's a sour bus rider. But a newer car probably would be easier for parts availability.
The C5 is plenty fast and has the legendary LS1. It's a lot more fragile in the sense the panels are all composite, so keep that in mind. Though it's a true sports car through and through. The mustang would make a heavier duty driver. Not anywhere close as being as fast. But the 4.6 liter can sound good with the right exhaust.
Jaxon Torres
Woah there bud.... easy on thr cocaine
Parker Nelson
I've read online the LS1 is really reliable, you could daily a C5 without a problem. If that's the case, that's definitely what I am after.
Ryder Gutierrez
*sniff* S-say what?
Cameron Howard
>American cars before 2000 aren't reliable Pretty big statement, kiddo. How do you reckon that?
Angel Thompson
OP here, really interested to know. I always had the notion that American V8 were this super reliable and strong engines you can beat around and fix super cheap
Angel Lewis
It depends which platform you go for. If we're talking about stuff from the Malaise Era, then your best bets are Panthers and B-bodies for reliability. Most truck platforms are also very reliable and easy to repair.
The only American cars you should really avoid are our compacts.
Jack Butler
Your mom's a country girl, is she?
Josiah Martinez
Those compacts were meant to be disposable. If you see any on the road still, it's either a grandma car or just gotten lucky.
Landon Diaz
I have no idea how country girls are, I don't think those exist where I am from. She's a business woman, who like most women, loves big and safe vehicles.
Liam Allen
Well, a full size pickup with a lift kit on it, demands a pink cowboy hat and a radio set permanently to a country music station for proper operation, if it's a girl driving the truck.
Does she have an opinion on listening to this kind of music?
If she's looking to get an old truck, she should totally get a C1500 from the 90s. Mine made it to 253k before I sold it, and it was still kicking.
Benjamin Phillips
In any case, if she's in the market for a full size pickup, Ferd or Chevy, take your pick. Avoid FCA products, they're piles of slapped together junk. Keeps mechanics busy, all I'll say. Does it snow where you live? Get a 4x4. Don't get it lifted unless you actually need the extra ground clearance, or get someone to put a lift kit on it back in whatever euro country you come from.
Isaiah Davis
I think she would love the idea of the pink cowboy hat, haha. Pretty sure she would love a radio like that, I kinda like it too.
Thank you, user. I show her this and the 2003 Ram model to see which one she likes better. I'll note down prices too so she can make up her mind.
>Mine made it to 253k before I sold it, and it was still kicking.
Miles? So like 400k Kilometers? That's fucking awesome.
Ian Miller
...
Jack Rodriguez
It's all in the maintenance, really. And not living in a road salt state too, I imagine.
Nolan Jones
Then I guess she is a country girl then. Didn't know there were any Over There.
Camden Taylor
I haven't met many women like my mother, now that I come to think of it.
Dominic Gutierrez
How much do these run from in the US? How are they like to drive?
John Scott
Fully restored one? More than that $20k budget you have. A good shell with no rust will run you 8k? Boomer tax, really. It's not worth it unless you're really into it.
Jonathan Moore
It's been an Indiana car its whole life. My aunt had it before I did. Dodge trucks aren't bad, but the repairs probably won't be as easy as a Chevy's would. The late 80 - early 90s F-150s are rock solid as well I hear.
Nathaniel Gray
I see, that would be a cool project to get into if I lived in the US. I think I'll probably settle for the Corvette.
Elijah Gonzalez
She's really into Dodge, we saw one of the newer Ram 5.7 models a few weeks ago from an American couple and she fell in love with it. I'll show her the other options tomorrow and see what she thinks though.
Thanks for the ideas.
Tyler Reyes
Is she related to Richard Hammond?
In any case, Dodge can be okay but you have to consider that they are still products of Chrysler. You may have issues with electrical malfunction more than you'd want. Depending on how big of a truck she's wanting to bring back, you could pick up an older Ranger for pretty cheap.
Aiden Johnson
>euro milf wants lifted truck >buys cummins >muh cummins.jpg >rolling coal in europe >luls
this makes my dick hard...
but for real if she wants a truck cant go wrong with an old first gen Cummins (1989-1993). Mechanical diesel motor so no shitty electronics to rack up expensive repairs on. bonus points for a 5 speed model. add a 5 inch straight pipe exhaust with 20x12s "bro rims" on 35s for maximum Veeky Forums triggering
Nolan Lewis
Quick reminder that you have expenses for travelling and shipping and then import taxes as well as value added taxes may apply, so in the end you'll probably pay just as much as if you were buying an American import in Europe in the first place.
Brayden Bailey
What a nice and helpful thread. Made my day. Have a happy day/noon/night y'all. It doesn't concern me at all, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Asher Fisher
Yeah, but we get to do some tourism in American and know that we went far to get the cars we wanted. It's an adventure, we've never been to America.
>Is she related to Richard Hammond?
Lol, no. We are not British, we are half Spanish/half Swiss.
Not gonna lie, I want a country girl too.
Juan Martinez
If it's about the adventure then suit yourself and good luck. I just wanted to mention the costs in case you were hoping for a bargain.
