I replayed the 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th like 10 times because of numerous fuckups and dissatisfaction with the dialogue choices given, and recurrent autism that disallows me to fast forward through the festival.

It was so bad that I actually put it down 2 days in a row after like 2 hours of fucking up and restarting.

In the end my initial dialogue choices were the best, but they were still trash.

The culture festival. Goro's long ass fucking speech, Goro confronting the team, the after party, Sojiro finding out. I replayed this sequence of events like 10 times in total without skipping because I was unhappy with the dialogue presented.

For example, when Goro says "I say this with conviction because I have the same power" I replied "..." because I wanted him to keep talking and not interrupt, and he goes "I'll take your silence as evidence" or something. I was like, what the fuck, and restarted and admitted the truth. This is the second time that shit happened, I said "..." to Sae earlier in the game and she basically said "lol u guilty"

Later at the after party I said "I've always loved you!" to Makoto and she seemed pissed, so I restarted hoping one of the options didn't piss her off and cause her to make a fool of herself on stage but it was just an illusion of choice: the dumbfuck MC embarrasses Makoto regardless.

Things like that. I've restarted because of lame dialogue before but never to this extent. I'm still in recovery.

He was controlled by Yaldabaoth this whole time, and he never actually killed people. All of his murders were committed by Yaldabaoth who took control of his body by exploiting the darkness within him (think Riku-Ansem from Kingdom Hearts.)

However, either due to extreme denial or delusion, he claims that he actually killed those people, even if he actually didn't (like Mitsuo from Persona 4).This way, the Phantom Thieves no longer has any reason to hate him, and they have a personal reason to take down Yaldabaoth.

Is it cliche? Yes. Is it bullshit? Yes. But this is the only way I can think of to redeem him.
