My work is not done yet. There are still some textures that still look too brown.

Just because it's poor doesn't mean it's not filled to the brim with people, people who pay taxes to your knights who pay it to you, people who collect goods for your knights and the merchants who purchase, export and import them, etc. etc. This is a lot of overthinking though, as I don't think Mount and Blade keeps track of any population whatsoever.

I believe the first time you get a town it pays you quite a bit extra due to "back taxes" or something like that, I could be sorely mistaken, but every fief I get gives me a big lump of dosh the first week, and then generally like 1/4 or 1/2 of that amount the rest of the game.

Those are back taxes and tariffs that haven't been paid in a while. Your next collection will be much lower, but still very profitable compared to villages or castles.

I just started my new crossbowmen-only playthrough of PoP. Wish me luck. I am afraid of cavalry and my plan for that is to just have hundreds of crossbowmen and outnumber pretty much everyone.

Your plan is bad.

What would you advise? Just get good infantrymen? But then it is no longer a crossbowmen only run. At the very least it will become much easier when I get a CKO.

I'll be going with empire crossbowmen of course, and empire armored crossbowmen are actually decent in melee as well as ranged.

Go all in on pathfinding and run away from everybody. Sit in towns and wait for Lord's to attack bandits/invader parties and jump into battle with them.

He's just been waiting for bannerlord far longer than anyone else had.

try bandits only when you have at more units than the enemy and they're upgraded at least 1-2 times.

Theres a ModMerger tool thing, but I can't make heads or tails on how to use it, can't find a tutorial online, and the readme included also doesn't really help

No. There's the tool called ModMerger but it does not just magically merge mods for you. It's a framework that modders can use to make it easier to merge their mods into others if they release source, but it isn't guaranteed to work without a lot of source editing if even at all.
