Just bought pic related (not this exact one, but identical) for $5400. 2001, Base trim. Service records going back to 2013, meticulously kept. I'm the 3rd owner, 112k miles, manual transmission.
Did... did I do good Veeky Forums?
Also Porsche thread, cause why not.

Has the IMS bearing been upgraded? Do that shit pronto if it hasn't.
Yup! less than 20k miles ago, bearing and clutch replaced. Same with water pump and fittings.
Also oil separator was replaced, along with the plastic shock stops and motor mount. Dude put a ton of work into it.
Meh, that IMS would have been fine at such a high mileage
I hope you don't mind having to rev it out to keep up with soccer moms in SUVs
I drove a prius before m8
I'll take what I can get. Also, 217 hp in a 1100 kilo car isn't that bad lmao
1400* my bad
It's BRZ tier, but you get plenty of more torque in the mid range
It's a great car for learning how to drive in on a track and driving home relatively comfortably afterwards
So don't cheap out on tires and don't be afraid to fling it into a corner, it'll rotate like nothing else and you'll quickly realize that 50/50 weight distribution is a meme
Always wanted to grab a cheap early 00's Porsche, makes you seem MUCH richer than you are lol
Esp since you can find them for under $10k now
Always wanted to wide body one since no one gives a shit about them
in a rwd car hasn't 50-50 always been known to be a meme
Drive wheel bias is necessary
Doesn't stop Mazda, BMW, GM, etc. from touting it
Fair enough. There's engineering reasons for both but a slight drive wheel bias is pretty much the ideal compromise imho.
Everyone knows that's the poorfag "Porsche"
Enjoy your money pitt.
Enjoy your bus
...
Oh I will.
Im fucking jelly, good job OP. I want one too but for the same condition you pay twice the price in germoney.
spotted the underage poor busrider. Stay mad buscuck
Great price I'm eying one myself
That looks really nice
Shoulda got a 996
You're not gonna find a 996 under 6k, and a 986 is over 50% 996 anyway.
>not Carrera swapping a 986 for that power to weight ratio with the engine in the right place
you'll have fun with it. Fun and fast little cars, had one throughout my twenties and loved it.
You know that the Carrera also has the engine in the back faggot?
Can still get the engine in. It's a horizontally opposed inline 6, it's swappable.
Not gonna do it though, I don't wanna sink shitloads of money into this.
And? The engines are the same save for the higher displacement. They bolt right j to the 986 and even use the same wiring harness, you just need an ECU flash to raise the rev limiter
Thanks for proving that you have no idea what you're talking about
Welcome to the club, fellow hairdresser. That's a really good price.
And this is the wrongest post I have read on Veeky Forums.
Elaborate
>IMS would have been fine at such a high mileage
But don't bearings wear out?
If it was gonna fail, it'd most likely have done so already.
And if it does, that's a good excuse to put in a 3.4l or 3.6l Carrera engine.
>buy 5400 dollar car
>put 30,000 dollar engine in it
By the time a well made bearing wears out you'll likely be tearing the engine down to rebuild it hundreds of thousands if miles later
Problem is that a handful of bearings were faulty and failed in a spectacular fashion before the engine's third oil change
Are you high? Even the engine from a 991 GT3 only costs like $20k
Pretty cool imo
>only costs like 20k
ebay.com
>30k
Google faggot, use it before you post.
He can't, he has no idea what he's talking about
Looking at those specs it only has 35 more HP and 20 more tq than my golf
I still don't understand why an owner would not replace this failure-prone bearing when the clutch is out.
Good job finding the most overpriced race built engines you flaming faggot
>Google faggot, use it before you post.
Why not use a browser that doesn't work against your interests?
Because if the car is high mileage the bearing isn't faulty
>buying a used Porsche engine
>buying a use Porsche engine with 60+k miles
Are you literally retarded?
It also has a vastly superior chassis, engine in the right place, better suspension, better brakes, etc.
Hope you are ready to drop 25,000 into rebuilding that engine.
But that's true of any bearing. Yet I replace the throw-out bearing when I am in there, don't you?
Still slower than a Civic around the ring.
Don't you have to keep an eye out for your bus stop? Stop talking about things you have no idea about
Keep pulling numbers out of your ass
>vastly superior
-doubt
No one cares
Engine bearings usually last much longer than a throw out bearing. And the proper method is to remove the seal and add a direct oil feed and never worry about the bearing again
>two people reply telling him hes retarded
>still thinks he's right
You should really reevaluate your life user.
>my shitbox VW is actually great, I swear!
>boxer engine
>german
You fucked up
>board filled with retarded bus riders
What else is new?
Wait, you would actually buy a engine with 110k miles on it, and not do a rebuild on it?
Are you fucking retarded? You have to be.
A rebuild doesn't cost $25k
If you bought a boxer you don't know how to rebuild an engine.
So yes, its going to cost you 25k to have someone else do it.
You can buy a completely redone racing engine for like $20k
Rebuilding an engine is easy when its out of the car. Don't be stupid and label your bolts
>talking about Carrera swaps that have been done on Boxsters since they were introduced
>pulls out a fucking Mezger engine
I know people on Veeky Forums are stupid, but come the fuck on
What does engine configuration have to do with the owner's knowledge?
No competent person buys a boxster
Knowledgeable owners steer clear of fashion statements when choosing an engine.
Nothing, these guys are idiots
Tell that to all those spec Boxster racers.
>spec boxster
>rented cars
>rented mechanics
Wow, and you provided nothing of value to counter my argument
Your Porsche is nice, OP, have fun. It's much better than these ugly SUVs they sell nowadays. I only own an aircooled Beetle, tho, so what do I know?
You have no argument worth countering
jelly af, you got it for less than my mr2 spyder
In other words, you didn't know Spec Boxster drivers don't work on their own cars.
Literal dumbass.
So what exactly is a fashion statement about boxer engines? They're short and keep the center of gravity lower than a V6.
And you don't even have a car to work on XD
It was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago, when they replaced the IMS bearing due to metal shavings in the oil.
