Sonia got sidegraded more than nerfed. She still kept the best magic spell in the game and is the only mage besides Delthea to have good movement. However in exchange she lost Angel and Arrow (granted she never really had much of a use for that one in the original). Besides Deen was still technically better in the original since he could actually promote into Dread Fighter unlike Sonia who'd never promote at all.

If you're talking about nerfs you should probably look at Kliff and Est. Kliff learns Excalibur later and still kept his shaky base speed on top of gaining nerfed HP while with Est the TA nerf makes her way more annoying to train since she can't even rely on the guaranteed crits anymore to help her quickly catch up to her sisters.
