1. Not enough memory allocated, give it more (default is 1 gb, try 2gb). 2. Don't use Java 8. 3. It could also be that there's a memory leak and you have to restart SS from time to time.

In the pic everything but Onslaught, Conquest and Paragon was salvaged from bounties.

>storage You know, all those mothballed ships are mothballed because I've been hauling them back from bounties
Adam Jackson
Did you ever find an Omen or that other bullshit rare Tri-Tachyon ship?
Oliver Clark
That depends whether Aurora and Apogee are considered bullshit rare. >no Omens, Scarabs, Tempests, Afflictors, Shades
Hudson Ramirez
Apogee is pretty common, Aurora is rare. I've encountered Afflictors in 200k bounty fleets.
Joseph Howard
>fuck knows how many cycles in >game crashes while saving >save is nowhere to be seen OH WELL
On a lighter note, post your favorite setups >Adamas >Sajuuk-tier death beam >800 range unboosted >1730 armor plus whatever the fuck ISA Energized Armor grants It even goes at about 130 sanics with Lux Finis up. Even the blasters on it are satisfying as fuck.
Daniel Myers
I haven't played this in forever, I actually forgot I even bought it until I saw this general. I ended up getting my ass handed to me several times and cried myself to sleep suppressing those memories.
Is there any guides (and maybe mods too pls) that yall can recommend so I can be gud.
Nolan Rodriguez
>Entire fleets of delicate ships >Phase skimming, cloaking, and teleporting >Little drone fuckers that dart around and snipe out your engines Jesus christ what the fuck is this, who thought this would be fun. Hey, you know what would make this game more interesting? Enemies you can never catch! >Deploy huge ships >Out maneuvered, literally chasing them down for hours >Deploy delicate ships >Nothing happens, both sides spam teleports without ever engaging >Deploy carriers with bombers >Bombers are too slow and miss >Deploy carriers with interceptors >They all somehow all focus fire on their single large ship with a wall of flak mounts eating them all, instead of you know going for the squishy guys The worse part though, is that they don't ever really attack either, they're just there to be annoy you.
Cooper Gonzalez
Phase ships are annoying little niggers but I honestly think that adds to the fun, because god damn if catching them isn't satisfying. Consider piloting a fast frigate with Unstable Injector, some long range weapon to bait them into phasing, and anything that can burst the fuck out of them once they inevitably run out.
Fighter AI is unfortunately retarded and performs a LOT better when piloted by the player, since you can always regroup and switch target. The AI is pretty stupid about it and I wouldn't recommend fielding an AI carrier without Reserve Deployment, at least that way they can shit out more fighters than the opposition can handle.
Huge ships are meant to be outmaneuvered. Run them with fast missiles to swat any flies, and/or give them an escort of fast anti-frigate frigates. Using carriers also works, if you have fast, overpowered fighters to deploy. Never exclusively run bombers on a carrier unless you intend to field two with different fighter squads. Never field a carrier without an officer that has at least Carrier Command and Helmsmanship 3 (this makes sure the AI can into gofast toward the beginning of a fight)
TL;DR: Git gud
Nolan Cooper
Two destroyers aren't going to cut it this time
Isaiah Gomez
Reloading Kinetic missiles should be illegal but I can't stop using the Star Sylph and Snow Goose at every opportunity.
Im starting a new complete run, and my idea is to do a totally solo lonely run. Only 1 ship on fleet allowed at all times, so no recoverings ships, only chance to change ship is buying one on station.
it will be a pain in the ass for the supplies/fuel right? should I use starsector+ (I always played vanilla)?
Jayden Morris
SS+ now is shit. Do not bother.
Thomas Mitchell
Should I just disable Neutrino?
Kevin Martin
Why, are you getting the bugs with it?
Parker White
No. I bet you like bugs and crashes.
Anthony Moore
why is shit? I mean, I know there is other mods with his core/better changes, but for someone who will not use those, and always played vanilla, shouldnt be ss+ still great?
Caleb Ortiz
I'm scared of bugs fucking up my savefiles.
Anthony Fisher
It was gutted from everything and the only two features that left will be revenge fleets and crew salary.
Xavier Thompson
you'll be stuck in the core systems and won't be able to do lucrative missions, and any bounties you do will just result in scaling up until you can't do them anymore, the game is not balanced around solo runs currently
Blake Peterson
It depends. I've only hit one problem using Neutrino and that was a fatal error with a ship. I know that apparently a lot of people get errors with weapons but I've never had much reason to use neutrino weapons, and honestly, as much as I can appreciate the design of the ships I've never used them either.
Personally when Nex comes out I'm not going to bother adding Neutrino in. The armor function in their ships is neat but I've never really found anything I really liked out of their weapons array.
As far as your bug problem goes though I think saving regularly will be fine if you want to play with neutrino. You're probably most at risk if you take a commission with them, since they put out bounties less frequently than most factions.
I think right now SS+ is only notable for revenge fleets and moving the bounty missions back into the core systems. The latter of which can be very important for a solo ship build.
James Peterson
It also improves the named bounty system so that bounties scale with your fleet and are more likely to appear near or in the core worlds. That alone makes it worth using until Nexerelin or some other mod incorporates that feature.
Andrew Hernandez
;_; ok, I will try then the solo run with ss+ to see if its viable enough. if not, then this: I will start a new game with just 1 new mod faction, try all the stuff, start another game, different mod faction added, and so on until 0.8.1
Jacob King
Run a game with all the faction mods you want to try, dabble with the ships, then cut down on it. It's easier than going each faction standalone, especially if you're going to end up playing Nex anyways, and you don't need to fuck around with mods and save file compatability as much, especially since save transfer won't be updated until .8.1 at the earliest.
Austin Miller
Is anyone playing still playing modded 0.7.2?
Justin Edwards
The changes in .8 are just too good to go back, even for BRDY and Tiandong and all the other great mods waiting for the update. The basis for outpost creation/player faction is now in and it's just too fun to go back.
William Morales
I considered it, but nah

What's the deal with the wiki page saying the Odyssey's large turrets can all hit the same target at once? The turret arcs aren't even close - is it just wrong (that seems common enough) or am I missing something?
Adrian Johnson
Currently don't have a carrier, so I can't use Sparks. Don't want to use fighters with crew (e.g. Talon), since I need those for surveying. >I usually just deploy two wolves with IR pulse and tachyon beams Do you mean Graviton Beams? You can't mount Tachyons onto Wolves. I currently use Grav beam, 2x Harpoon, 3x Tactical Laser on mine. I'll try switching to IR pulse. I already have 2 Wolves and 4 Lumens, but it takes ages to destroy toher Lumen/Glimmer frigates - especially Lumens with their blip. What loadout should I use? Currently using 2x Tac Laser/2x Atropos Rack - a set of 4 torpedoes usually kills a single Lumen without problems.
I knew about that, I use this feature. Oh, gtk. I'll probably never use this because I identify ships by loadout, not name. They are close, it's just that the target has to be cruiser or capital sized. You mean normal So brawlers with mortars and LMGs.
Nathan Lopez
It's possible, though the overlap is kind of small.
Ryan Cook
So how do you guys think the game stands. flavor-wise? Are there any improvements or additions you would like to see?
Jaxson Bennett
Lore or gameplay?
Tyler Rivera
If by flavor you mean lore it's serviceable, but I think a lot of newer players get overwhelmed and just overlook the lore, especially with the factions, since every faction eventually progresses into a war against everyone else except the Independents anyways.
The addition of the Remnant in .8 was a nice touch, but there's very little to go on about them except the ties to Tri-Tachyon, and so it almost feels like there's a good bit of potential there that's untapped.
Being able to start a small splinter faction would be really nice. If you can grab a crew of several thousand people it shouldn't be unfeasible to rally people together under a common cause. Could help give a bit more flesh to industry so that it isn't just getmoneyfast like it is right now, especially with how disposable planets are once you've done a single survey.
Brayden Wright
What about 200+ speed?
Bentley Morris
The forever war is a bug and is fixed for next release. The Industry aptitude and Remnants have potential "intentionally" because they are in the right now the way they're (somewhat) working, not the way they are supposed to be. If surveying didn't give money it'd be pointless.
Tyler Myers
Once Industry is fully implemented hopefully we'll be able to do more with survey data than just sell it for an easy buck. I want to have my own comfy badlands farm planet and make trading runs for industrial materials. Dynamic faction growth depending on who you sell survey data too would be fantastic
Asher Gomez
I know they got mallorca at some point, but we got half italy too back then (and half world in fact) and I will not call any of those places in that regard but whatever.
lore-wise the base is really good, a bit more deep on the [REDACTED] and Domain, like some high end little event will be great.
also, what I want is pretty complex, I will xplain in detail in other post. but its something like the player being able to create your own faction, stablishing stations/planets (with like a total max 5) and those having his own production/market and all that. it will never happen so...
Zachary Carter
>The forever war is a bug and is fixed for next release. That'd be nice, because that's definitely one of the factors that makes commissioning a major pain right now, once you commission you pretty much set yourself up to stay in a very specific section of the galaxy.
I don't mind if the process is difficult. Establishing a colony generally has lots of complications. But to have our own colony would definitely be nice. Have to be some nice Terran worlds that can be resided in.
Beats using the Abandoned Terraforming Complex in Corvus as a home base every time.
Noah Mitchell
Mostly left at default, except for the salvaged triple-(D)-mod Colossus that I named the SS Edmund Fitzgerald.
Player factions are probably going to be in the update that adds outposts.
Jason Moore
What's a good loadout for a Tempest?
Tyler Lewis
2 mining blasters and hammer torpedo
Jaxson Harris
...and the solo run starts! (just ss+ and utility mods)
predictions lads?
Jace Wood
At that point I might as well equip my own Lumens with some heavy DPS and Safety Overrides. Guess I'll just start looking for a carrier - probably a Brilliant. >That'd be nice, because that's definitely one of the factors that makes commissioning a major pain right now, once you commission you pretty much set yourself up to stay in a very specific section of the galaxy. You can just remove the commission system from the current game. All you have to do at that point is get your standing high enough.
Easton Smith
>hammer torpedo Single Harpoon masterrace.
James Phillips
update 1: Lobo Solitario is kill. literally on the 1st engage. the fleet whou caught me was big, too many missiles spam.
still with shekels, I will try to get a decent destryoer: enforcer, sunder, hammerhead or medusa. prob one of the 2 last
Brody Martin
I don't think people should have to do that though, commissioning isn't a bad concept, it's just limiting due to a number of factors working together against it. The idea of joining a faction is fine, which is what commissioning is. It's just that right now it doesn't have any real benefits outside of opening up a certain selection of ships.
If it's just ss+ you might run into fuel problems down the line. The wolf isn't the most efficient ship out there supply and fuel wise.
Samuel Torres
You need to survive the first few fights and get surveying, because without that float sum of cash you're not going to last very long, and you sure as hell won't be able to do any major bounties early on.
Ian Gomez
it will always amaze me how people can manage to be bad at a game this simple
Jonathan Lee
>still haven't been to the outer systems or seen remnant >have no idea what they are like or how strong they are so I stay away >low on cash and the only bounties are too big for my weak fleet >see a mission to explore a derelict about 200 fuel units away >go all in and head out >start seeing warning beacons] >expecting a violent death at any moment >reach the objective but ended up using too much fuel >enemy forces are really easy >find several other probes in the system >snag some AI cores >scavenge enough fuel to reach a populated system >buy some new ships when I get back pretty cool. Doing bounties forever gets boring.
Leo James
Anyone else think surveying needs a bit of a nerf? There's no risk to surveying planets with high hazard ratings whatsoever. You can lose men and heavy machinery combing through salvage but you don't even have any accidents when sending heavy machinery and men down to a magma planet with extreme tectonic activity, high gravity, and extreme heat that collectively renders construction "semi-permanent at best"?
Grayson Stewart
how about no?
Julian Jenkins
It feels like a placeholder because it is, just don't take the skill.
Once in a blue moon you will come across a planet with a 0 survey rating for a nice cash boost. Feels much better this way.
Easton Barnes
i've taken into account player feedback and will massively rework surveying in the next update coming up in a week or so
Easton Bailey
solo run, update 2: I manage to buy a hammerhead, shit fit but whatever, and did one 40k bounty. upgraded 1 weapon and I got full suplies/fuel.
33k on my pocket, looking decent again, I will try to get a few more 40k bounties.
also, fights are being intense as fuck with just 1 fight, pretty gud sensations.
Asher Gomez
I named them all after MVPs from RO in one run, except for fuel/cargo ships, which were all varieties of porings.
Aiden Barnes
is that you alex?
Tyler Cox
solo run, update 3: my hammerhead was totally obliterate by a named pirate from the Luddic Path. His fleet was a few hounds and 3(three) fucking brawlers LP, and oh boy how fast and how fucking hard they hit. I manage to kill 1 hound, trying to get some distance/not being flanked by the brawlers but I failed and burned down like paper.
anyway, 144k credits from bounties and selling some cheap stuff. I have the option now of buying a Mora or a Dominator. Should I stick to destroyers for now? I think it will be hard for me to fly a cruiser now and deal with the pesky frigates. what you guys think
Levi Taylor
>Buy some drovers >Fill them with sparks Frigate woes gone
Justin White
A Mora would be able to mount some railguns and, if you pause intelligently, bring whichever fighter wing you need for the current engagement. That, and it's nigh indestructible. Also, I don't really like the Dominator all that much
Asher Hughes
I think risk-free money is fine. There needs to be a way to get back on your feet after losses and surveying fills that roll pretty well. Skill-locked surveying in particular should be strong because you literally get no benefit out of it other than more survey data to sell.
Robert Lewis
I like the dominator a lot, but for a solo run I think it will not performance very well. I will try the Mora I think, never used one, so looks decent and fun for this run
