Here's a story /mmog/.
There is a tcgmmo korean game. it was once so popular, it even made it oversees, but after lack of success it retreated back to its eastern origins.

That game did not leave behind empty fanbase however. some of the western fans even made their own servers to continue playing that game even tough it was no longer available. those servers ware completly fanmade, IE no buying stuff, no participation in official tournements not even ability to battle people from the asian servers. those were independent servers emulating the original game where their makers pariodicly check the original game for updates and incorporate it into the games, and they are also full of glitches, bugs and sometimes even crashes.

There isn't just ONE fangame however, but TWO.
One game incorporate moe points such as speach bubbles and qoutes for the various characters over the course of the battles, the other doesn't but involves much more content from the main game.

If you ware a fan of the original game which of those would you play? That is, assuming you would.

back in 2004-2006 RO was a popular game, as it's only real competitor was vanilla wow. High rate private servers removed the grind. The appeal is quickly getting a max level character and exploring all the zones and nostalgia. You can forma guild and do WoE, but no one takes WoE (guild wars) seriously

Nah there wasn't immediately a group to join, which gave me the few seconds of lucidity I needed to realize I didn't really want to do gramps
