Buy totaled Car?

Hey Veeky Forums, I am not from around here. I had a question for y'all. A family member wrecked her ford escape, and they're gonna take the insurance settlement.

However, it looks like we can buy back the wreck. How much do you think it would cost to salvage this? From my understanding the engine still runs good, and it turns on, and can drive off the lot.. for short distances.

Should I make this my project car?

frame will be bent af, don't buy

probably frame damage, and why bother finding salvage insurance for a Ford escape, nothing good about it

Its going to cost more than it'll be worth, you'll require A LOT of specialist tools, chances are it won't ever really be straight or safe again in a crash, and getting all the missing parts & sensors will be a pain in the ass

Get something simpler from the 70's or 80's if you want a project

Depends on how much you can get it for.
Do you already have a car?
What year is it

My aunt is gonna take her 21k check. But she says, I have two hours to decide if I want to buy 2500 to buy the wreck back.

Your saying it's not worth it, to try to work on this car? I have another 7k in my savings account. I'm just trying to see if I can get a newish Escape out of this. The thing had 12k miles.

Does it drive straight?
Buy it, if anything, you can resell it for about that much anyway

2500
Yes.
I have a boxxy 2010 Escape myself.

Honestly, I dont even need another car. But I'm wondering if it's a good deal I'm missing out on here.

Meant the year of the wreck.
Do you know how to work on cars?

Really not worth it IMO. You'd be blowing money on a lost cause.

Damn. Well. I had that cynical take on it too. But I wanted to hear some optimistic answer. I just wanted to score a deal here....

Welp, I won't buy then.

2015, SE trim, 1.5 Ecoboost, 12k mi.

Not really. If I failed at it then, I was just gonna take it to some salvage shop, and see how much they would charge me for this POS.

If you want to maximum jew, just replace the mechanical, and throw a new front clip on it and some paint.
Then get it aligned as best as possible, and sell it to some chum

LEL.

This sounds interesting. I'd like to stiff someone for 10 thousand....

Salvage titles always attract the retards. Only do it if you're racing it in 24hrsoflemons.

nobody is going to pay that much for a salvage title vehicle

>Ford escape
Holy shit I fucking hate those pieces of shit. Changing the battery takes like an hour and a half because of all the shit you have to take off to get to it.

t. Lube tech that gets paid the same on a car that takes 5 minutes to change the battery and one that takes an hour

...

It's fucked. A modern car uses the whole body to distribute the load around the passenger compartment. besides, it's a shitty crossover even in non-wrecked condition.

Of all the things you could do in your life you want to waste it make a fucking Ford Escape your project car?

Totaled cars are only worth buying back if it has a V8 and manual transmission in it. Because if those work that's $5-8k easy.

Trying to put it back on the road will require a state trooper inspection and that's what fucks people the most.

Don't waste your time and money on this. You can only make money by selling the parts, which I doubt you know how to do that. Otherwise, you'll be much better off using the money to purchase a decent running used car. A used car 'never in a wreck' will be much better than a newer 'rebuilt by a noob' car any day.
