Why are econoboxes used in rally instead of sports cars? Wouldn't a lifted AWD sports car be better than a lifted AWD econobox?

I think it's because the shape of the cars are regulated or something
So I'm not sure, but in WRC case, one of the reasons is that the engines are limited to 1.6 or 1.8 and the cars have to be mass manufactured
Not really much "econo" about them. The body doesn't make much difference in dirt racing of this type. All that matters is the suspension, wheels and motor.
None of which are shared with the econo versions.
Also, they are used because hatches are insanely popular on the other side of the pond.
The homologation rules immediately exclude any exotic machinery, unless you're a bad enough dude to actually shift 2500 units of what amounts to a purpose-built WRC car in disguise, and the cars need to be as light and as compact as the rules allow to make them competitive on the tiny ass roads. Thus econoboxes, and like said, they're arguably closer to silhouette racers anyway.
Lamborghini shifts over 3000 Huracans a year, does it meet WRC requirements?
Is it a 1.6 litre? There is your answer.
Yeah but still
Those cars usually have AWD even if the econobox one is FWD
>tfw no 3 door awd fiesta.
but still what?
One word: Wheelbase
But another word: Regulations
You've got smaller, lighter cars, with more power and torque than they'd ever need, more agile than they've ever been. Why would you want something bigger, heavier, and more powerful than regulations even allow? WRC rules means that the original car's configuration means jack shit. The suspension is all bespoke stuff.
In any case, what AWD sports cars (or any cars) would you run? Imprezas, yes. Evo is kill. Audi A4? Some sort of weird 4WD Mustang?
>4WD mustang
Ferguson Ford?
it's mostly marketing
family dads see a 500bhp awd yaris going sideways and they think it's cool so they buy a 100hp fwdcuck hatch because they are stupid
>motor
faggot
It depends on the class, there are soany classes it would blow your mind. Recently some guy was running a Gallardo in some amateur rally class.
In Barbados, which is more tarmac than any they got guys that ran old air cooled Porsches, a BMW GTR and a V8 Vantage.
The guy in the BMW GTR was a lunatic and got pretty high in the rankings but was still beat by the local imprezas. The Vantage, while impressive to see, got raped by a barely built Ford KA.
It's kind of like trying to fight with a cannon in a maze.
Kys amerifat
Whats the point on a hoodscoop on a front engine car?
I assume you meant roof scoop, and it's because no A/C
WRC rules limit wheelbase in a way that only econoboxes make sense
Since when do econoboxes cost 35k?
>econoboxes
You mean 'mass market hatchbacks'. An 'econobox' is one of those shitty little things with no extras, no insulation, tiny wheels, and awful handling.
Also, regulations forbid it now, but you've obviously never studied history. At all. They used to rally Porch 911s and Lancias.
>tfw I was thinking about buying a DS3 after watching Loeb
youtube.com
>you will never witness a group B rally
I want to see this. You got some videos or something?
people who cry about group meme, usually don't like rally at all anyway and just want to watch overpowered cars going sideways
what's wrong with wanting to watch overpowered cars going sideways
They were slower than the cars McRae and makkinen were driving in 2000
The ds3 is pretty
Aston at 2:58. You can see more of it in subsequent videos. Lots of RWD escorts and I believe Martin Stockdale had a 3 series compact with an m3 6 in it that year. About 80% of the cars and drivers are foreign. Primarily British.
The crowd really goes wild for the M3 GTR
I haven't been since 2009 but they had a massive top gear event with the three Stooges themselves, Lewis Hamilton, ken block and the bunch on a few years back and it's gotten so big that they were able to upgrade the special stage to an actual racing circuit.
Those aren't my videos by the way. I was normally too busy with a beer in one hand and waving my chicken with the other
nothing
but calling that 'rally' is wrong
Cool stuff. Love me some amateur rallying. It really is more interesting than proper WRC to me.
It's about the spirit of the thing. A lot of guitarists can play faster than Hendrix today... but nobody sounds like Hendrix
>tfw no Safari 911
Lap times are the only thing that matters.
