Why the hell is VALVe servers so slow at filling up when someone leaves.

It happens so often that half of one of the teams, leaves; and then the game on the server just collapses and one team steamrolls the other.

It should almost instantly fill in people, and allow for scrambles between each map.

quake live supports the same bots though. its still a really good feature to know which servers are actually full of people or not, and there isn't near as bad a spectator idle problem in quake live comparatively (all the top servers in quake 3 have 20 fucking spectators inflating their userlist number). also i have to disagree, i find the bots to be very easy to beat. they are very predictable, don't time items (except big items like quad or regen ive noticed) even on the highest bot difficulties, and are only really a threat if they can manage to pick up a lightning gun or in a shitty map with full sightlines and railguns on both sides. i know different bots have different personalities and maybe others focus more on timing as i know some focus more on accuracy but overall i didn't find it difficult beating the singleplayer on nightmare at all until the very end. i should get into unreal just because people like to circlejerk the bots but i have a hard time imagining they would be much better in an arena setting

But that's timing items. If you skip important armor or health pickups, you're toast against tourney bosses.
Timing only didn't really matter at last level boss, because all you ever did was shooting rails around.

Bots have different characteristics; favored weapons, reaction time, turning speed and aiming style.
If you keep searching, you'll notice quite a few above average and beat your ass in no time.

no it isn't, thats timing a single item, that can be easily contested because you have all the armor and additional items in the fucking map. its not an exaggeration to say i can play most maps with 100 percent item control, armor shards and health bubbles included, and i can time big items better than bots as when i say they "time it" i really mean they beeline toward it every 2 minutes immediately after it spawns

wrong, the only tourney boss this might be true is hunter and thats just because she can get a lightning gun and is one of the few that actually favor it. but she doesn't control items at all and you can brute force win every single battle just mindlessly shooting them even on nightmare. favored weapons do not matter, orb likes plasma gun, grunt likes rail, phobos likes rocket launcher, and so on but it isn't very effective when they just walk into rockets or if they can't even figure out how to reach railgun. to add onto that bots don't work in most maps (for example, you will rarely see bots navigate anywhere on campgrounds, they pool on plasmagun and that is all). they can't do anything advanced at all that better players in duels can do such as strafejumping or even manage their own ammo, i think cpma bots have this ability but from what a friend has told me it is very easy to track. also that link is 404 error
