I don't know what class to pick. I wanted lancer but I've heard that they were the most boring class. In the end I want to play as dragoon or machinist anyway.

Not really, when you cleared your level 10 class quest you can start picking up new classes so, in the end you will have all classes.

Also most classes are really boring to begin with since you don't have a lot of skills and stuff, but it gets better. DRG is pretty fun to play eventually.

You can pick whatever you want and then change classes whenever you want, so don't worry about it too much. The only exceptions to this are HW jobs (MCH, DRK, AST) for which you need to complete the ARR main story and unlock Ishgard first.

Lancer is pretty boring until you unlock your full combo, until that you're doing only Impulse Drive and Heavy Thrust. It gets a lot more fun after that, which is around the time you unlock dragoon.

For current content, you'll need Invigorate and Blood for Blood from Dragoon regardless of which physical DPS you play. They're doing away with that the current cross class system anyway in 4.0 which is less than a month away, so don't worry about it too much for now.

I can't speak for its "goodness", I tend to play jobs that are fun to play. From what I hear people are crying over something regarding the changes to NIN for SB, but I can't say anything about it, sorry.

However I like the ninjutsu stuff as it feels like a few clicks really has a lot of stuff for different situations.
