When people say german cars are unreliable, what do they mean?

when people say german cars are unreliable, what do they mean?

do they mean little annoyances and fixes for the weekend here and there, unreliable? or car breaking repairs, like "guess I'm driving the other car to work" unreliable?

of course it varies by car model, but generally speaking?

>do they mean little annoyances and fixes for the weekend here and there
That one.

Source: daily a 1984 325e.

>cooling systems
>more electronics to fuck up
>grenading hpfps
>timing chains/guides
>rod bearings
these aren't an issue on most cars.

They mean it's not an appliance like a Honda or Toyota.

>do they mean little annoyances and fixes for the weekend here and there
Depends on the specific model but for the most part it's this. I daily a 10 year old bimmer 5 series and never have any issues. Only actual work was replacing a water pump and coolant hoses.

Also there was an issue with a passenger seat occupancy sensor throwing an error but the dealer fixed it free of charge because BMW issued a recall on some sensors.

>e
top kek. Ill race you in my 84 528i

The funniest thing is to go indepth questioning people who claim this shit non stop.
For the most part they know literally nothing about the most mundane and basic maintenance.

What is true tho that these cars are usually more complicated and hence more to go wrong but do not blindly slurp up all the memes without doing some research yourself.

i worked in a shop for years, fuck BMW, Audi, VW, etc. Audi like A6 the entire fucking front end has to come apart to do anything, BMW everything is fucking torx bolts, VW is just electrical issues up the cunt, and god knows what else. theyre over engineered, the main reason i left the trade was fixing cars with all these fucking electronics is too much of a headache

German design is absolute shit. what about the Mercedes that has the front axle going through the oil pan? and Mercedes wonderful design of no oil dipstick and making you use some bullshit electric sensor?

no theyre overengineered junk. i'll gladly stay in my comfort zone of 1970-1999 Toyotas and Japanese cars.

Most of the BMWs I have owned were dead reliable and extremely easy to repair if something shit the bed. Currently my e39 540i wagon runs like a top. My e34 M5 requires extra here and there but no big deal.

Cant say the same for my 88 toyota truck. If it wasnt the headgasket or another serious motor issue it was the 5 speed or the transfer case. Easy to fix but come on.

Fucking this, you couldn't pay me enough to work at a German car dealer, especially on flag. Every time one comes in it's so retardedly shitty to work on, even for simple shit that other manufacturers have had figured out for decades, that doesn't have to be a pain in the ass to do. All my coworkers avoid them (rightfully so) so I usually get stuck with them.

The mean they don't know what they are talking about.

Just my armchair theory but this is likely done to maximize profits on dealer visits. i often hear complaints of no dip-stick on Veeky Forums and i thought it was a meme but then i realize they can use that as an excuse to overcharge you for dealer visits.

German cars IMO are like experiments. they are constantly introducing new technology some of which may not be fully developed and a bit too complex like a game that needs to be patched later on because the developers bit off more than they could chew regarding features. the no dip-stick and in general expensive dealer visits could be like DLC money that they then use to make patches to the cars in later generations and introduce newer and better tech/features.

When the E60 M5 came out it had its issues especially regarding Oil consumption as Matt Farah once mentioned. the money BMW made on them was used to patch those issues in the next M5 and introduce more technology to the point where now the next M5 is going to be AWD.

>car comes in under warranty
>bmw has to pay dealership tons of money to fix thing
>car is out of warranty, 3rd party suppliers flooded market with cheaper replacements or parts get ordered from OEM-supplier, fixed at your favorite garage
>barely any bmw-branches anyways, most are franchises
Yes, they invent new stuff because they want to be ahead. If cars are flawed they notice from the warranty-costs they have to cover within the first 3-5 years (or longer like the n54 hpfp) and set up lessons-learned-requirements to save money on new projects. The r&d money they put in new projects has nothing to do with the money they earn from repairs but what the competition is doing

It's called "being ahead of the curve".
If you keep experimenting, SOMETHING will get around and being ahead of the pack means you can have some trouble and not get to quickly into problems.

If you're just a "me too" corp you either will slowly die or at least you won't have any fucking buffer because all you do is being a boring brand that brings nothing new to the table and is easily replaceable and flaws won't be forgotten so easily.

This

Bmw creates butthurt through fear, weebs instantly feel insecure seeing the bavarian colors

Bavarian here
You cant rep any colors of germany otherwise you get thrown into jail for nationalism or some shit.

Went from EG Civic to E46 BMW, everything is a problem.

Drove shitboxes all my life including eastern European/Russian ones and I bought my first new car after driving E46 for six months.

Only if those colors happen to be the flag of the third Reich or are somehow connected to the nazi-scene

...

Take a look at the mileage. The highest is 83000 km with the majority of the rest still falling within warranty period. Coincidentally, most of the issues you see on mercs and bmws like failing sensors out the ass conveniently happen when the warranty runs out :') Not really disproving anything

The "German cars are all unreliable" meme is pretty hit and miss usually by people who can't be assed to do extended maintenance on a car with more complex systems or those that buy a 5th owner, 15 year old c-class and bitch about not being able to afford replacing sensors because they wanted to roleplay being middle class.

Sure there's a bunch of unnecessarily complicated shit and problems that definitely shouldn't have made it past production but that's with every car. You just don't see this shit about civics shitting themselves because that's like 90% of Veeky Forums and they don't want everyone to know they drive a shitbox.

She took our flag away m8
She is a communist bitch that deserves to be thrown out of a chopper ancap style

This is fucking vile

Be honest, would you rather keep her as the leader of Germany or would you rather a German Trump.

By ten years old and 200,000km 11 of the top 20 most reliable cars ate German the other 9 are Japanese.

>She is communist
Trump was literally elected by the USSR.

German trump. Not even joking. She has to fucking go.
>pic related. Its the german flag with the nations coat of arms. The Feds like to use it sometimes
Neighbors got mad that I had this hanging from my flag pole
>its offensive to non germans

We're screwed m8. I am leaving this country

what the fuck happened you guys

Whoops wrong version of the flag.
This is the right one (civillian version). If I had the one I posted previously, i'd get penalized because its only for military use or whatever

What Jap cars are up in the top 20 other than some shit like a civic, corolla, accord, or camry

German cars aren't unreliable, they're just expensive to fix.

4 things
>East germany because socialism and communism
Might as well just say dividing germany after the war
>Zionism and Jews
>Terrified of someone becoming the next hitler
>Political correctness and diversity too make up for the war

This is the most true desu but I think it only applies to north america.

In EU, shits like 3 series and A4's are basically civic / corolla tier and since there's a shit tonne of them, parts are probably way cheaper also since they're manufactured all over the EU.

Then again if you buy something like a post 2008 W204 with stick you can probably afford to replace sensors once in a while assuming the lca's and other suspension shit doesn't take a dump

If you mean that bearded guy, no, he's even waaayy more on the left spectrum compared to her.
So either way, there's no big "change" to choose again (how convenient)

>Zionism and Jews

that applies worldwide lmao

>intelligent version of trump
Pls no, this could cause quite some harm
>otherwise good thread ruined by politics
I thought there is a board for that

True
Why do you think people hate russia and NK so much? They're not under their control...

I literally have a 15 year old c class
The previous owner was too retarded to change the gearbox ecu which I did for pretty much free and in the 10k km I did I only changed the gearbox selector for 45 euros
I like to roleplay as a romanian gypsy warlord

>torx bolts
I don't see the problem. If you have the tools, that shouldn't be an issue no?

I mean imagine if you could choose a German Donald Trump.
He acts just like the American Trump with obscene shit hes going to say and people mocking him and making endless satire out of him on top of his blatant anti-immigrant stance and over whelming patriotism for Germany.

You also get his never ending news reports of his Scandals. (basically you take the good with the bad) knowing all this do you choose German Trump or stay with more mature less scandal ridden more professional Angela Merkel.

1776 just commenced again

The thought of this is so fucking alien, it's literally impossible. Something like this won't happen AT LEAST in 50 years or longer.

>checked
Germans will literally try to overthrow him because hitler

The german state media already painted trump that way and the retards believe it
pic semi related. It says
>the true face of trump

I'd rather have this thread get back to the only thing good coming out of germany (aka bmw). It just gets me depressed talking about politics

Politics are depressing af
>Tfw our race is dying

Race question is just diversion. Wealth is what divides society for centuries.

>Civic nationalist
Eh it's better than a lib I guess

I knew it was a leftypol fag who keeps starting these fucking pol discussions here. Kys already

Poland is looking promising for an ethnostate wish they had their Automotive shit set up like the usa

german cars are overengineered so people can't maintain it themselves so they have to take it to a dealer/garage to maintain it for them so the brand gets more money

t. spoke to a german

In order
2: Toyota Corolla Verso
4: Toyota Rav4
5: Honda CRV
6:Toyota Avensis
9: Toyota Corolla
10: Mazda 2
13: Honda Jazz
15: Mitsubishi Colt
19: Honda Civic

>Most of the BMWs I have owned were dead reliable and extremely easy to repair if something shit the bed. Currently my e39 540i wagon runs like a top....

So it runs for a short time, loses power and then dies?

Sorta. The motor is bulletproof if it wasn't for the guides. Timing chain guides are in their prime time to go (120-180k miles) and that's about a weekend to fix. Not a hard fix but pretty rough on people who can't do it themselves (we're talking 4K at the dealership, 800 and a few hours on your own)

It's usually a lifetime fix so once it's done shouldn't go out ever again unless you're retarded and neglect the tensioners.
