>Driving Large Vehicles For Fun And Profit, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying About Personal Hygene:

Find a community college or specialist 'school' that can get you a CDL, either finance it or pay out of pocket, then get on board at a company that offers tuition reimbursement.

Stick out your two years in the meat grinder to pay your dues, then decide once you're debt free whether or not you want to stick around.

There are also companies that will train you in exchange for you signing a (typically) 2-year contract, and while these are generally regarded as a total shitfest, it's not the worst thing in the world if that is your only option.

That said, aim for a recognizable company - Swift, Prime, and Schneider all get a lot of flak for being 'puppy mill' companies, but the true shitters are companies like CR England, CRST, and a handful of others that aren't coming to mind.

Nine times out of ten, a smaller, locally-owned-and-operated 'Mom and Pop' company will be your best bet.

What's the story with those long hood Petes anyway? Special model plate? Does it house a special engine with more cylinders, or just more cooling?

Prosthetic penis enhancement has gone off the rails.

They can be fitted with longer motors, but rarely are, since nobody has made a V12 or I8 in a long while. On the upside, any old 14L sits right down in it without having to shove a cylinder or two into the dash, so they can be pulled sraight up and out, and you don't need to smuggle in a 12 year old Vietnamese girl to work on the back of the block.

a e s t h e t i c

Gotta soak in that magnesium, bro.

>Why did I click the link when I already knew what was inside?

Once upon a time, larger engines, now its purely a style choice.

Protip: when there's no parking left, just head to the shop and ask for a brake check and advise. Should be able to get in most of my 34 hour reset sitting in the shade.

Is it because they're slow or because that poor old freightshaker is so whooped they're writing up the cost of replacing everything?

About 50/50.

Is it normal for your knee to hurt from driving a 10spdr?
Been at it two weeks and my left knee hurts and feels weak. I don't even double clutch all the time only at dead stops and when the gear won't go in.

Pulled in for the trailer. Left rear S-cam is about froze up after 17 years and 2 million+ miles.

If you're a bitch and aren't pushing at the pelvis.

So the obese driver can reach the back of engine.

>If you're a bitch and aren't pushing at the pelvis
Says the auto driver.

No idea. I have a based air assisted clutch.

If PrimeFag's here, I have a question. How do you guys treat your new puppy mill drivers? I feel like I'm gonna get the Big Black Werner Cock

>tfw you're listening to a drunk named Hot Sauce tell you about the time he was getting picked up by the nuts by Goldgerg and he wanders off without his jacket

Don't recall the last time you rebuilt the clutch linkage in a cabover, buddy.

Instead installed a new clutch, rebuilt the air over hydraulic system and the diff after the crown bearing failed on a 2644 Actros.

Buddy.

You sound like a fag and your shits all retarded.

Have a question. I'm planning to go into trucking once I get eye surgery to meet the requirements. I have one ticket for 'defective equipment' (my third light on the truck was out), and had an atfault accident a year ago.

Is there a company that would hire me on so I cn get my experience? Thanks

All of them, pretty much.

As far as I'm aware most puppy mill companies only keep an eye out for DUIs.

k busrider

Prime takes losers of all sorts.

Could anyone weigh in on if Toronto to Texas would be a decent lane? New driver here if that matters.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on what part of TX. Most of it is hell to drive through. I used to main Laredo to Chicago, I35 is the worst bit of interstate in the country as far as I'm concerned. From San Antonio to Oklahoma is just pure shit.

What makes you say that?

I35E threw my trailer into another lane fully loaded. It's breddy bad.

I know exactly what part you're talking about. I don't even know what they're doing.

Not quite what I was hoping to hear. Dallas or El Paso are the two most likely options so far.

I don't think they do either.

:^)

I'm not sure they knew, either. Could have had a sign like "trucks use third lane next 3 miles" or something, but nope, I just rode through in the right lane like some asshole while my double double got cold.

Obese fuck

Well, I think it's safe to say I have a gambling addiction now. I need some other self-destructive hobby to fill the time. Suggestions?

Anime

He said self-destructive, not self-loathing.

> I8

Was this configuration ever a thing? I know back in the old days they did some weird shit with the big diesels but a straight 8 seems pretty unlikely, IDK.

Obsolete diesel engines fascinate me for some reason. Doesn't YBJ have some sort of weird 1970s Cummins V8 diesel that's super rare or some shit?

Meth, its gambling with your sanity.

YBJ has a Comeapart V904 IIRC

Love me some 60° Caterpillar V8. 3408

Eh, maybe not. Just got off the phone, it's really bad. Neighbor's house is under water, 200 roads and streets flooded and two more days of rain forecasted. I'll feel guilty as fuck if I stop and hang out in a free hotel while my neighborhood floods, though.

Which companies hire NEETs? I have zero verifiable work experience or references. I know by law they have to check at least 3 year employment history. What if I give them my buddy's number and he pretends to be my old boss when they call him up. Will that work?

Swift will hire you anyway. Just say you were self-employed or a college dropout.

From what I've heart Swift will ask me for tax returns if I claim to be self employed. I have worked for months at a time under the table for cash but they were fly-by-night operations and the owners have since disappeared off the face of the earth so I can't get a legitimate reference or tax returns. As for college... well let's just say I'm past the typical "college age" so that story won't fly.

Has anyone faked a reference? I think that is my only choice. How thorough are they in checking the references you put down?

Just get your CDL and apply, you'd be surprised how little you need to get hired as a truck driver.

Yeah that was plan B. If I can't get hired through company school I'm just gonna get my CDL on my own and hope someone will take me. My worry is that if I get my CDL on my own I still wont get hired. There are no cheap schools or community colleges where I live so I can't afford to not get hired.

I appreciate the replies.

Carrier I'm with were fucking nazis about prior history. Self employment was ok but you had to have at least 1099's for the period. As for references they checked every one listed in the last ten years and if they didn't get a response from a listed reference for whatever reason you were on hold until they did. However long it took. Some guys in my orientation class were still on hold weeks later so faking a reference might not work with a mega.

Yeah I've heard some megas like Prime will want to know everything about you short of a DNA sample and anal probe so I'm not gonna even bother with them. From what I understand self-employed is a red flag for megas and they require more paperwork than if you just put down your mcdonald's job.

When I mean "fake" I mean giving them my buddy's number rather than fake number. Of course I would prep my friend on what to say beforehand. I was just curious if they are gonna check through state records to see if my buddy is a legitimate employer. Or verify the business address, that sort of thing.

VT-903. 14.8L of disappointment. Old timers called them nine-oh-nothings, because they were huge, but had a whopping 900ft/lbs or torque. Schneider ran a few thousand of them for an average of 3.5 million miles.

>I was just curious if they are gonna check through state records to see if my buddy is a legitimate employer. Or verify the business address, that sort of thing.
I wouldn't put it past them if they get any sense something is "off" about the reference.

Remember, drivers try shit all the time so there's probably very little HR or Safety hasn't heard or seen before. Including your idea.

>Our terminal has a rollercoaster

By proxy, the Springfield terminal does, on parts of 44, any of the farm roads around the city and the entrance road into Prime which we affectionately call Mayfair Pass.

Mayfair Pass is not a real mountain pass though it has a huge hill in the middle, but once every couple of months drivers who are either dicking on their phones or the QC run off of it and roll their truck since the road is like 5 feet higher than the ground it's built on. I've watched it happen.

p much this if you can breathe, pass a DOT physical and not hit anything on your first week out you're hired.

any mega-carrier, but stay away from CRST, Celadon and any other bottom-feeder that pays less than .40cpm starting. you will want to commit vehicular homicide in your first month

Yes. "Good buddies" abound in this industry.

I've watched our guys do it in the Springfield yard. Dude had the whole yard tied up once while I was still learning how to walk. Many keks were farmed on the FB driver page

At the sand hauling place I used to work for, someone forgot to dump the air out of the trailer bags of a dollyed off pneumatic sand trailer with 30 tonnes of sand in it, and the legs eventually got pushed forward and bent from the air draining and pushing on em.

Guess they had to pay for a 60 tonne crane to come and lift the thing out of the dirt.

Will you be my good buddy.

what are you going to do when the robot is driving your truck?

That's a negatory on that cocksuckery there, Pretty-Mouth.

Jack off a lot more while looking at internet porn I suppose.

I just up and quit my dealership job, got my CDL on my own and with no help from the CDL school I landed a pretty sweet local job. that's not always the case but there are companies like Melton, System, and Decker that will hire literally anyone with a CDL and a pulse. System offered me a regional route over the phone without ever meeting anyone in person or anything.

oh and I think all three of the companies I listed reimburse you for your CDL as well. System was going to give me an extra like $350 a month for a year because I paid 4 grand.

Get paid to babysit a computer.

suck the dick of the hitchhiker I picked up

I guess I'll have to get a tablet to stare at like an asshole as depicted in every autonomous truck PR release photo.

>tfw houston

I think I'm taking the week off desu. I needed a break anyway

I'm so tired of all of it. I finally get my permit and I still can't get behind the wheel since I didn't do their special drug test and DOT exam there. I went somewhere else. I'm going through Truck Nation School. Super sick of it. I was told at the DMV that since I'm not applying for endorsements (I'm so lost), I can come back with my Class A and just take a written test to get my endorsements for doubles and Hazmats.

The school wanted $1500 upfront or $500 down with $250 every two weeks for 8 weeks if I recall correctly for just the Class A. They also wanted $1900 upfront for Class A w/endorsements. But I couldn't afford the $1900, and the DMV told me I can just pay like $43 and get the endorsements myself.

What do I do, experienced ones? I just wanna make a lot of money and drive away from my problems. And I still can't drive yet.

I'm in California if it matters.

>I'm in California if it matters.
Just suck dicks for coin like you already do, commie.

I don't like living here either, which is why I turned to this skill that can transfer across every state. I may be moving to Texas in a few years, or Alaska, not sure.

I have been offered short haul and long hauls by family. But I still need my license.

Just kind of venting and trying to figure out what do, but since reading through the thread, I got more info.

Sucking dicks is a skill that transfers world wide.

Where in cali? I know a good school. Also $1500 for how many hours?

Goddamn trailer gremlins, eating the seals on the gladhands. What gremlins are plaguing you lot today?

>unhelpful, useless, moronic post

Wow, you're so cool for jumping on the Cali-hate bandwagon and insulting people for where they live! What a smart guy!

>>unhelpful, useless, moronic post
Wow, you're so cool for making the thread worse!

GrainGuy has gone construction. Good pay with ot after 50 hours. might have to go otr for them in the winter but that's no biggie. pretty sure they are gonna let me move equipment soon but for now just been on the side dump trains and the end dump

Lol very true, I forgot to account for that.

According to the contract, 40 Hrs.

I dub thee, sir GravelGuy.

If family is offering you work, do they have a truck you can take the test on? Ask them if they can at least lend a hand getting your CDL. If not, just bite the bullet and sign a contract with a mega. If you go with Prime, you'll get a complimentary blowjob, courtesy of Optimus Primefag here.
Noice, better take home pay or just getting more home time?
>40hrs
>$1500
Damn son, I mean Peak cost me $4500 (technically only a few hundred because Skyline paid $4000 I believe), but I got 150hrs over the course of 3 weeks.
>not dubs, therefore not checked
Damn. I like it tho.

In unrelated news, finally managed to get my hands on that diesel Jetta. Gonna have to register it and all that this weekend. All it needs right now is a paint touchup on the driver's side, fix an oil leak from around the timing cover, and sometime in the next 20k miles it's due for a timing belt. Will probably let the dealer handle that and just dump the money on it since I don't trust myself to do that on my DD.

At my old job they put a foreign guy in my star and he broke the 4500 dollar bumper the first week I was gone.

I also saw this happen my first day on the job.

Thank you. I will look into those companies.

To be fair these tippers are like balancing a brick on a toothpick, easy as fuck to ... well, tip. Moving floor trailers are one of the few things that actually make life better for everyone and aren't just measures to pander to idiots.

I work with a 6'4" qt black trucker girl with long dreadlocks

I've seen only 1 qt driver in 3 years.

I've probably backed into like maybe 3 spots total since I first started driving. How bad will it be if I learn to drive a truck

What is it that you're dumping there? It looks a lot like what passes for topsoil in my yard.

the take home should be exactly the same if not more and I get to go home erryday

that's mud kek

All of my trailer slack adjusters are in various states of borked. Broken teeth, dry S-cams, and short on shims. Gonna grab a few parts and tools and go through them this weekend.

Wouldn't help if you'd been driving backwards your whole life. They're completely different skills.

Noice. Now that I've got that Jetta, the next step in the game plan is to ditch the Focus, and funnel the money saved on car payments toward the credit cards. Once they're low enough, I'm gonna start looking for local work. I have a guaranteed local gig through a friend but it's cement truck work, and technically 'self-employed,' basically just work as much as I want but it's his truck so he takes a cut. He claims I could take home $1800/wk like one guy that used to work for him but that doesn't count for taxes or the insurance I'll have to get for myself.

>Left town right before the shit hit

I wanted to get a small boat and dress up like pirates for shenanigans around Houston too.

330" in guessing
Anyway ya I'm doin trucker stuff. Driving, pissing in bottles, fucking my gf while the pup bites my ankle. All the normal ef tropes

...

$1800 minus taxes and insurance doesn't really sound like a lot but i don't have any experience with local work so idk

It isn't, which is why I hesitate to take his offer. I'll definitely peruse job postings and maybe call a few places first. Anyone in here ever worked for 84 Lumber?

>complimentary blowjob

This is true. Any lease operator who gets behind on his payments mandatory must suck one cock per week to get out.

They ferry the drivers to the yard and you get to pick which one sucks you off but the catch is you're his bitch until you get your CDL, run 40000 miles and get off his truck, so choose your cock wisely.
