Although, I disagree with your point on "Ouma never shows his true emotions/cries for real, ever" because there are points (chapter 4 breakdown before Gonta gets executed, his speech to Kaito before he dies) where, while it's not 100% certain he's being honest, it's not certain that he's being dishonest and it makes sense thematically and characterization-wise that he would be honest in those moments. It's jumping the gun to say that no, he's never ever honest, ever.

I more meant to say that whenever Ouma does, in fact, real emotions, he covers it up as fast as possible and more dramatically than ever so you have no idea if he's telling the truth or not. Ah, that makes sense! Yeah, I would recommend reading/listening to the text of chapter 4 and 5 because it's pretty important for his character. Parts of chapter 6 also retroactively reveal a lot about him as well.
