Germans tend to have a lot of penetration and fast reload speeds. The entire destroyer line has optional magnetic torps, a proximity trigger that makes it so you do not need to get direct hits on a target to injure them. Magnetics are absolutely brutal against Subs, but not as effective against BB's.
German DD's also have more HP than the other nations destroyers which can made even better with commanders that provide some +% durability.
