There should always be some public seed around to use. I was banned from the early Pokemon SM banwave and I lived off public seeds for 4 months before I got a new system.
They were banned like every 5-6 weeks, you just had to be in the right channels to get new ones.

The funny thing is that I actually own a JP 3DS and MHX/MHXX. I don't have a pic of MHXX since I bought it digitally, but here's my physical copy of MHX.

It's still very clearly a 3DS port but it's not as though they did 0 work.

Upscaling the res doesn't remodel things like that fish.

Rather than adding I'd more describe it as they were working smartly and with the full knowledge they'd reuse these properties later. I think we've been seeing that since MH4, and more specifically in the fact that X scattered (read: fucked up) some zone textures, which was reminiscent of 2011's 3G.

You can make a couple of guesses. Back in 2011, P3rd HD is released just before TGS so that they can reap the sales before a major platform switch for not just one, but 2 games at the same time. MH4 itself was announced but wasn't released only until 2 years later. What they wanted to convey was that Vita won't be getting any MH before it was even released.

Also MH5 releasing this year means it's too early for it to be on Switch. All mainline games at least were developed for 3 years.

Yes. The same texture in higher res. Which they probably had from making the game before they compressed the fuck out of it for the 3ds. Still a higher res texture than the 3ds version.

I would've expected them only to run the game at a higher res without any extra work put in aside from maybe UI rework to suit one screen.

And if it's not clear to you, running the game at a higher res doesn't magically make the textures higher res. The 3ds texture is probably like 128x128 or 256x256 while the Switch texture looks like it's a fair bit higher with better texture filtering.
