50mpg
no oil changes

You forgot to mention it's a piece of shit.

...

50mpg

I doubt it.

>doesnt respect the awesome power of the trabant

If you look at it purely by those metrics, sure, it's fantastic.

If you look at it by any other metric that matters (can it drive up a slight incline at faster than jogging pace, is it not a rolling coffin in the event of an accident, is it a practical vehicle, availability of parts, can it reach highway speeds, etc. etc.) then it's a giant steaming commie turd.

1. i dont really care what happens in an accident
2. it has plentiful parts
3. speed isnt important because everywhere i need to be is less than 5 miles aa
way

Some (most) people have places to go further than 5 miles.

fucking troll only.

Ya and the Vespa is da best motorbike in da world too! $?

kek

memes aside, they are bretty cool cars.

It keeps up with the traffic. It's a two-stroke, two-cylinder engine so you can't really expect a lot from it, given it should have about 28 horsepower according to data.

You can safely go on highway with it, it will have the necessary speed.
Parts are available depending where you live (ex-commie countries will have it).

Hell yes they are. Got mine about a month ago. I did read about the odds and charms of the Trabbi, but they're even better once you see them yourselves. It's a quite well tought car design-wise. I can safely say that with a new engine and an improved chassis it could've easily been a good-seller econobox post-communism. Unfortunately it's strong ties with the past didn't impress the people who were sick of seeing it already, being one of the most common cars around and it didn't impress the west either, most likely because of the stigma it brought., hence why the 1.1 was a failure.

then buy a segway, trotsky

I can buy a new ls1 for my car for $500 and its not a piece of shit in every other way so i can live with it being harder to work on and less fuel efficient.

>miles aa
>way

cunt you're cooked

Hey I never said I didn't want one but they do dump a lot of unburnt fuel when not under load.

Will you try this for science and post it? Never mind the wood.

> Deffo not 50mpg
> No reliability - literally smacked together with a hammer (find assembly footage on YT)
> Heater will turn the interior into gas chamber on wheels if exhaust rusts
> Tfw he fell for the simple socialist car meme

>german engineering

>no part more than 100
>engine 1000

So there is a part more than 100

>western kids who never had to drive one giving opinions
Wew lads. We had a Trabant as a family car and I've actually driven it quite a bit.
It's shit in every way imaginable.

>easiest car to work on ever created
2CV would have a word with you.

>everywhere i need to be is less than 5 miles aa
>way
Your current mobility scooter will be faster, lazy fatass, no need to replace it and pollute everyone in the process.

I have 2 of them. Both last series with VW Polo engine.
In post Warsaw Pact countries you have plentiful of cheap parts for them.
And great nostalgia value.
But you have to love them to have them.

...

So?

its bad in a good way

They're a good laugh
Wouldn't use it as a daily though
Pic related, been using it at least once a week for the last 3 years

Huh, So there actually are trabant owners on here.
There were some trabant threads a couple of months ago, but those reeked of bus riders. Neato

That engine bay

I used to host a thread /red/-Commie Car Thread, but people started to lose interest after a while.
I didn't have a Trabi back then, but was aiming to get one (a P50/60 more specifically). After realising it's fairly unrealistic, I settled down for a 601.

I could've saved more and actually get a P50 from Germany, but they are rare and furthermore, even local 601s started to vanish so I tought it would be reasonable to secure one.

I'm happy with it. Sure, it needs a lot of work and it's not a P50, but I'm happy.

Ha, I've got a larger two stroke outboard on my boat and it only weighs 200lbs...

50 miles per galon of oil

I can vouch for the 50mpg, had around 47 out of mine and I rag the shit out of it. It's actually got a set of various coloured LEDs that tell you how economical you're driving

>LEDs
>Trabbi
pick one senpai

Upgraded, used to be tiny 6V bulbs. I've got LEDs for everything but headlights now

I actually meant LEDs for econometer. I don't think even the VW Polo engined late models had one.

JDM Kei trucks are better

>50mpg
>4x4
>2.5L oil capacity
>parts are dirt cheap

nope, they didn't. Also no column shifter :/

depends where. I bet that in post soviet countries trabi is cheaper, parts are cheaper and Trabi has great nostalgia value.
people often come to me and say that they, or someone in family had one, or just start little chat about the car.
Kei trucks are non-existent here

column shifter was the best thing. I love how comfy it was to drive it. Also I think it was more safe as it took less time to change gears and the distance hand would have to travel while not holding the wheel was a lot smaller than when the stick was mounted on the floor later on.

Would love one, they're very rare but not very expensive surprisingly. Can't really justify buying it though.

Yeah, I was sad when I found aut that 1.1 version has stick in the floor...

You are in America? In Europe there are lot of them.

>Can't really justify buying it though
If you can afford it and really want one, go for it.
I got a lot of shit from friends and family for wanting one.
>user, they're...they're shit user
>user, it's made of cardboard user, fucking cardboard
>just get a Golf 3 and shut up user. any old shit beyond a Golf 3 is a shit investment
Bought it regardless. Of course they laughed for a while and said they didn't think I was actually serious about buying one. Just can't wait to finish it and smoke their faces.

The 1.1 isn't a real Trabant anyway.

Do they all use 6 volt electrics?
Do they have their own oil injection thing, or do you need to pre mix?
I live at the top of a big hill, so obviously to go anywhere I need to get to the bottom of it. Will a trabi stop in time (40kmh/ 25mph) or am I signing my own death warrant?
Pic unrelated.

They got 12V in late '83, so for the last six or so years. You need to pre mix. The brakes are adequate, it only weighs 1400 pounds or so anyway.

Shot br/o/

Yea, I'll probably get one when I get a place with a garage.

Finland, not many around. Might be possible to import but fuck that.

well, it did go through south america, africa and soon asia so... best car for sure

1.1 is limited edition.
There were less than 40 000 of them, compared to shit ton of 2 stroke ones.

One of them was in handicapped version with semi automatic transmission

You can probably find something similar there anyway, like 2CV in west Europe

1.1 is post-reunification with a VW engine. Capitalist garbage.

They ruined it really. I know they barely changed the looks of it since '64, but what the hell was in their mind with those god-awful rear lamps and new grille. It looks ugly.

Fellas at Warburg at least did a decent job with Wartburg 1.3.

It was designed pre-unification. That is why a lot of parts is not interchangeable with VW even if engine is said to be VW...

I like that grille...

Obviously you're wasting space by purchasing a car, Little Commie. Be a good Citizen and buy a scooter and redistribute your car to your local homeless man.

Not him but I daily Trabant 1.1:
You can't fit family of 4 on a scooter...
And you won't get nostalgia bonuses.

There is no homeless in communism, comrade. A car will be given to you by the state, we will retain it's value from your earnings accordingly. Thank you for applying for getting an autovehicle, please return in 10 years to receive the car.
Glory to the great party!

The Trabant was an awful car designed by Communists and proves why Socialism is the physical manifestation of failure in a political system.

>17802084
no (You) for (You), comrade.

How much did it cost? Wanting to buy one.

you can get one anywhere from $2500 to $20,000 in the USA. in europe you can have one for free or almost free.

>no need for funny punchline then your brand is a joke itself

Didn't the last ones have this as OEM?

Here we are.

The commies sold premix at the bowser.

£350, needed some welding though

It is the most car a car can be. It's not a sound system, it's not a sofa, it's not a air conditioning unit. It's just a car, the most car a car can be.

T R A B I W A V E

more like 50 gpm

Not that type of classic.
Was designed as a cheap, economic car and that's exactly what it is

This car has a 600 ccm engine and tops out at 60 mph, the 50mpg claim is actualy legit, but you won´t go any fast.

if you dont need to go far get a bicycle you communist loving fuck.

>do you need to pre mix?
You need to pour oil in the gas tank and shake the car.

Spare parts for eastern vehicles are rediculously cheap, especialy whe you buy them in poland.

I own a old Simson Mokick, it looks like a motorcycle , drives 70 km/h and is legaly a scooter.
A new cylinder+piston for example costs 40€ in germany and like 30€ in poland.
The aftermarket support is great and the fuel consumtion is only 2,5L/100km at topspeed.

Getting to Poland and back makes up for the 10€ you save

No, they ship to germany for 5€.
It makes more sense if you buy more parts.

I want to east Germany in 1990, the country stunk because of those things

Boys, I want your honest opinion.
I've tought of getting a raspberri pi and installing it as a media unit in my Trabant (which is a simple 601s model, therefore no radio unit). Is it idiotic and kitsch?

Warum nicht?
Solange es nicht zu sehr wie im Tesla aussieht geht das klar...

Or you could save up and get a good car

>implying the Trabant is bad
Show me a car that is significantly easier to work on and cheaper to run.

If these are your only requirements for a vehicle you could get a bike

Already saving up for a Twingo actually.
Okay the Twingo part is debatable since I want many other cars, but has priority over others in the queue.

Trabant is easily one of the best cars ever made for sure

Did you mean to say this?
>The Trabant was an awful car designed by Communists and is the physical manifestation of the failure of Socialism as a political system.

I remember those threads, that's sweet af dude

Are those Poznań plates I'm seeing?

wasn't it for legal reasons? like bigger rear lamps and reverse gear lamp required?
anyway yes, they're ugly, but I learned to like them: after all, it's a 1950s car restyled in 1980s East Germany. It could've been worse

They worked, and got people from point A to point B reliably. They performed all the functions a car NEEDS to perform. I like to go fast as much as the next guy, but you have to agree that the Trabant wasn't an objectively bad NORMAL CAR.

>but you have to agree that the Trabant wasn't an objectively bad NORMAL CAR.

No I don't. By the standards that allow commie garbage - and I'm not singling out Trabants here, I mean anything produced in the Eastern Bloc - to be considered not bad cars, there would be NO bad cars. The word would lose all practical meaning.

Any car can get people from A to B relatively reliably. Even ones universally considered unreliable do work most of the time.

Naja, Ich möchte es diskret machen, vielleicht retro-Stil...wenn möglich.

That's very likely considering the reunification.

Yes but the trabant is so much more reliable than those other ones generally considered unreliable. It was built to last as long as possible, not just until the next model year.

Lerne inzu AUX-Kabel und Verstärker, da kannst dann jedes Handy anschließen.

>more reliable
>general engine overhaul every 40k-50k km
>despite plastic panels front bulkhead (engine mounting) corroded fast & unnoticeably with risk of car falling apart while driving
>BUILT TO LAST AS LONG AS POSSIBLE
gtfo nostalgiafag

God user, and I thought mine looked bad.
