Dies irae is one of highest acclaimed action/battle VNs of all time and is considered kamige (highest status a VN can reach), it has had several releases (first back in 2007) but the latest and most complete version is set to release in English May 31st, probably why you've been hearing about it.

It's been claimed to be impossible to translate by our Japanese reading friends with the writer being known for his flowery and complex usage of the language, for instance this is what moogy (eroge exarch) had to say about attempting to translate it a few years back:
