How do you get addicted to a game that can have 2 playthroughs, tops?
Ryder Stewart
If it wasn't Stellaris it'd just be some other game. Vidya was a mistake.

unfortunately their portrait isn't animated on the wiki which would make it more difficult to do only the first few on the wiki are animated mp4's
Cameron Wright
>Cravers AND Sophons have theirs animated on the website.
William Rodriguez
It's weird as fuck that the Riftborn mixed with the Vodyani make the best Reaper race.
I just bought Utopia so I'm playing a hivemind empire. When do I start attacking my neighbors? Should I start getting on it soon or wait a bit? I always suck at domination in 4X.
Benjamin Nelson
soon
Chase Howard
anyone?
Brayden Taylor
get corpedos asap invade someone when you have 1.7k fleet power and ~7 units
Aiden Ross
same time you go to war as any other race, after you have double the fleet power of their fleet and one of their spaceports combined so about 50 years :^)
Henry Cooper
What exactly is a neighbouring rival? Do borders have to be touching?
Isaac Mitchell
Ringworlds are useless, they said.
Well, not if you are lucky enough to get them early, that is.

There are already 3 patches. One just came out
Ayden Sanders
You'll get a tech eventually that lets you remove the negative effects of those anomalies
I want a patch that actually fixes the goddamn game
Oliver Bailey
I need help making a Riftborn race that uses Ark Ships. What traits do you give them to cleanse organic life from the galaxy?
Jose Howard
1.0.6 doesn't fix the AI never committing to a strategy and battles getting stuck forever.
James Wood
pure distance, 50% more than planet sensor range afaik so your borders can be raping theirs but you still might not count as neighbour
Juan Garcia
Odds are they'll have it fixed by Tuesday. Just start a new game.
Lucas Howard

I use sci-jump drives and don't give a fuck. Let the unbidden come, they clear out a bunch of systems for me to take over without incurring warmonger penalty anyway.

About Stellaris:
Does anyone know why the fuck ships don't attack what you tell them to? The instant any kind of hostile force enters they drop everything you told them to fuck off to attack it. This is getting my ass beat down hard against the Unbidden because the AI somehow cheats warps into the system right after I, against my will, take out all the stations rendering me totally fucked for talking out the portal.
Also, how the fuck do Frontier Outposts work? I keep reading they don't cost any influence to maintain if they are in sectors but that doesn't seem to work for me.
Jonathan Roberts

Isaac Diaz
>I keep reading they don't cost any influence to maintain if they are in sectors but that doesn't seem to work for me.
m8 that was changed back in like 1.3
>The instant any kind of hostile force enters they drop everything you told them to fuck off to attack it.
there's a setting, evasive/passive/aggressive that'll change their behavior
can't really do anything about them going for stations, though
John James
Why is it that whenever I have migration policies, my fucking nerds leave, but I never gain any of the other guys?
David Morris
>50% more than planet sensor range afaik that's very unintuitive. How will I know whether I'm getting my +10% Unity per neighboring rival from the supremacy tree
Kevin Watson
Once combat starts you cant control what your ships target, so they will always fire on what is the highest threat for them. If they start attacking the portal before the other ships close in, they will keep shooting it though. They don't cheat warp in though, if you threaten their portal or anchors every single fleet makes a dash to that system to protect it. As for frontier outposts, they changed that thing with sectors in a patch ages ago.
Jaxon Ramirez
>so they will always fire on what is the highest threat for them one half of my fleet in engaged with an enemy fleet while the other half takes out their mining station or mining ship bravo paradox
Ethan Young
I've been playing as the United empire for a while, and early on in the faction quest they're asking me which way I want to take the Empire, Sheredyn, Mezari, or remain UE?
I really want to make myself a Sheredyn Empire long-term, but the quest here says that this "may not determine my final legacy". Can I safely go United Empire here, or am I forced to militarize?
Josiah Bailey
Does building tall actually work in ES2?
Michael Stewart
No.
Liam Fisher
>The instant any kind of hostile force enters they drop everything you told them to fuck off to attack it. change fleet stance to passive note that they will move once engaged by another fleet, even if it's just a science ship
Angel Robinson
So how are you supposed to expand borders when habitable planets are super far away from each other and there isn't enough influence in the world to connect them?
Elijah Kelly
by checking the militarist faction
Dominic Brooks
I don't really see how it would. Colonizing up to your limit doesn't really gimp you in any way.
You're not supposed to? This isn't EU, you don't need to connect your borders. Planet borders will grow as the planet grows.
Hudson Cox
I never changed it and apparently it was already passive. I can't quite figure out how I'm supposed to take out 10 54k armadas with a single 50k fleet that won't attack what I tell it to.
Brandon Hall
You don't really need to connect borders, unless its for autisms sake. As long as there isn't a prick that gets between them and blocks you, it's fine. Eventually they will connect, later in the game.
Jaxson Stewart
oh good, thanks
Camden Johnson
How can you not be supposed to? Many of my planets end up segregated since they are too far to connect while the AI has massive borders that are constantly surrounding my planets and making it impossible to travel between them. Any gap in borders is a massive weakness that could fuck your whole empire up unless you go to war.
Angel Parker
gene mod your species so they can colonise other planets conquer other empires planets and use their species to colonise terraform
Leo Barnes
>Many of my planets end up segregated since they are too far to connect How are you fucking up this bad, even on .25x habitable planets I still have all borders connected.
Nolan Nguyen
You cant. You just gotta outsmart them, or get a bigger fleet. Try baiting them with a smaller fleet around the opposite side of the system to distract them as long as you can to buy time to kill the portal. I'm pretty sure even a single lone corvette will do. Just be sure they wont be right where a fleet is gonna enter the system when they FTL in, having vision on all the surrounding system will make it easier to plan where they will come from so you can avoid them as long as possible.
I'm just learning this game and it doesn't teach you shit. I started out and did ok and only later learned about sectors which seem like ass. Then this other asshole just surrounds my empire and bitches at me all game. The only thing saving me was another massive empire liked me enough to get a defensive pact and they were the first and only empire so far to get wiped out by the Unbidden. Frankly, even if I took out the portal, the empire, who now has a federation, would rape me because half my empire is cut off from the main part and I'm totally surrounded.
Fuck. I like this game but I'm getting fucked way too hard.
Lincoln Rogers
>Any gap in borders is a massive weakness that could fuck your whole empire up unless you go to war.
...
No. All borders do is let you exploit resources. That is literally it.
Isaiah Young
sometimes enemy federations may seem scary but they are so shit at war. Even if they are overwhelming they take your planets so fucking slowly and you can settle for peace eventually and rebuild. You're right about sectors though, they are ass. Generalls you want research and food production in sectors because they give 100% and keep your energy and minerals production in your core worlds, but make sure sectors have enough energy and minerals to build too.
Also if you don't know, every planet adds 10% on to research costs and every pops adds 1%, so smaller planets may not be worth colonising.
David Scott
They also allow passage. If another empire gets in the middle of your empire and closes borders, you get cut off unless you go to war.
Juan Cooper
the game seems easier to learn if you go with a xenophile nation. Then you're the one that ends up with that federation, and every planet will be colonizable as more aliens migrate into your empire.
Logan Price
Also I wouldn't try taking out the unbidden with anything less than say 80k. Maximise your shields and use neutron torpedoes on lots of corvettes and plasma on everything else. kinetic artillery on battleships
Joshua Brown
>catch synths in the middle of building a ship >complete silence for the next several months Are they trying to psych me out?
Luke Thomas
>bought game from humble bundle >every empire has been some degree of xenophobe I have only ever had my starting race and maybe robots in my empire
Lincoln Bailey
I got it from the bundle too and haven't played long. My first two empires were failures, but trying for the xenophile one helped me learn a lot more. Maybe I just got lucky. Try again, maybe? Be sure to suck alien dick whenever possible. Get those migration treaties going and you'll be colonizing everything.
Logan Hughes
What did they mean by this?
Jacob Howard
Does ES2 have a memory leak? Seems like the UI gets more and more unresponsive the longer I play.
Ayden Morgan
The only thing that's given me problems is Fallen Empires. They're the only thing that ever stands in the way of Human, Cyborg-Human or Butterfly dominance
Parker Ross
>Also if you don't know, every planet adds 10% on to research costs and every pops adds 1%, so smaller planets may not be worth colonising. The numbers are right but the conclusion is not, because tech in Stellaris is a meme. Nothing matters in the game except military power and the best military power comes from spamming starting-tech corvettes in infinite numbers, which requires of you 0 technology. And therefore you should colonise everytiny rock you can.
Jace Clark
What did he mean by this?
Hunter Edwards
Game spawned me with a halo of every minor faction in the game. I'm going to try and absorb all them and be a great nation of multicultural friendos just like the world wants.
Landon Watson
This gotta be my comfiest campaign
War, vassalize, integrate, repeat
120 empires also means that every single fucker got atleast 3 defense pacts tho, so I gotta play carefully
Jose Clark
Sorry to intrude in what is probably the wrong general, but does Veeky Forums have a general that discusses Cities Skylines?
Wyatt Ross
There used to be a City Builder General /cbg/ but it's ded. Sorry pal.
Hunter Mitchell
It died I think
Charles Edwards
It's a different genre than 4X but no one minds because city builders are great too.
Christian Flores
What's a good first 4x game for someone transitioning from grand strategy games? Stellaris?
Jaxson Perry
Stellaris and ES2 are both great games, pick your poison.
Leo Mitchell
This is your best bet for discussing it. Every one has probably played.
I could never get too far into it. My traffic management is terrible.
Liam Bell
Yes you can, but you need to play a specific faction and play it in a certain way. If you make a custom faction of Continuum sculptors with Vodyani you can play tall with religion XP bonus.
There are probably other ways I just don't know them yet.
