Pretty sure the only things that count as criticals are backstabs, ripostes, viscerals and landing Sacred Flame.

Critical refers to backstabs, shield breaks, parries, staggers, etc. It's only the attacks where you enter a special animation.

what does it mean if you have a gold crown floating over your head? I got summoned as a dorkmoon and there was this group of people just standing around. After a while the invader comes at me (and the host points at the two of us, I assume to fight next). But the weird thing is that the host and another player had these yellow pillars of light overtop of them, following them around.

When I went to kill the invader, he held onto 1 HP no matter how many times I hit him. At some point I also got this golden crown suddenly appearing over my head and then a burst of yellow light, which happened twice. Eventually the invader killed me (even though hitting him at 0 HP wasn't killing him) and I died.

What was going on? Is there some arena thing with the crowns and gold light? Was the invader a hacker?

Hacker, probably. The crown usually means you're winning an arena match.

probably the host using cheat engine for the autitstic special effects shit

the invader was either using tears of denial or cheats as well

This wasn't in an arena, just a normal darkmoon invasion, so that's weird.

Deep infusion doesn't scale with your stats. It's kinda useless unless you plan on inflicting dark damage on a low sl character.

You aren't supposed to kill the mimics

You're supposed to use undead hunter charms on them. When they fall asleep and open their mouth, they have a chance to spawn the Chesthead each time.
