Grand cherokees are shit. The spectra looks ok, not my style though. Im in the same boat, I bought a 4cylinder Toyota tercel. It gets 36 mpg and is solid. Only paid 700$.
Jonathan Cooper
both of those cars are unreliable makes from unreliable companies, you will have problems
as a fellow poorfag college student, get a japanese midsize/compact sedan, if you're adventurous, a manual one. you can get a manual car for astronomically cheaper than an auto, usually.
aim for toyota camrys, corollas, honda civics, accords
you get a ton more car, and it won't fuck you over on maintenance.
An economy car should not be unreliable under any circumstances, even if it's from 1998 instead of 2008. Don't let the year scare you.
holy fuck its a salvage title you literally cannot get fucked any harder on this, run run run
keep an eye on that sort of thing, it'll ruin you when you try to resell the car.
Carson Jones
What was the mileage and interior condition when you bought it?
Would you recommend a Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe?
I'm pretty much just looking for hatchback/wagon/SUVs, I don't find sedans practical enough.
I don't exactly plan on reselling it tho, I want it to be something that keeps me going until it dies. I don't mind the body imperfections, as long as it's not frame damage, I can manage it.
Xavier Jenkins
A salvage car will most certainly have some kind of permanent damage, never buy one unless you're mechanically competent enough to give it a rebuilt title, and even then it has worthless resale value.
Toyota matrix, Honda Fit, great cars in the hatchback segment. Stay away from Chevy Aveo, I don't know about the Vibe, but I'd stay away from all 200x GM cars (Pontiac, Chevrolet, GM)
Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, these are decent SUVs with bulletproof engines
Elijah Peterson
The Vibe came from the same factory as the Matrix as part of a GM-Toyota partnership.
I think they are both mechanically identical, not sure though.
Aaron Flores
oh, since you're looking for SUVs, avoid AWD, it's just an extra point of failure for a system that only activates when the car decides it needs it (read: never)
Exception is Subaru's Outback/Impreza Hatchback, Subaru AWD is always "on". I would recommend them but the ones in the years of your price range are could be due for a headgasket replacement, idk if that's doable for you
Angel Butler
Yeah, I was actually strongly considering a 2003 Legacy Wagon but the headgasket issue is sort of a dealbreaker to me.
mileage is a meme. how it was maintained is much more important.
Austin Gutierrez
buick raineer
Aiden Clark
Listen you aren't going to find any car for 2500 with any amount of decent miles
Eli Nelson
but the spectra 5 in the OP has the lowest mileage.
David Davis
but it's a shit car.
Nolan Taylor
but no one gave any reason why, i'm open minded towards korean cars.
is it the engine, transmission, electronics?
Jaxon Lopez
that car even with the koreashit meme is priced too low, so theres some catch like was it a flood car? theres a buick rainier for 2300 bucks in la but you could probably find better ones if you tried haard enough
Carter Diaz
its everything. who buys this over an 08 civic or 08 mazda 3 when new? Poorfags. Poor people who are underwater on their shitty knockoff honda do not maintain their vehicle well. Not to mention corners that were cut at the factory to meet the "cheaper than a civic" price point.
Aaron Mitchell
Hijacking thread. Japanese cars are top notch right? What about Euro or American?
Jonathan Lewis
There's two Rainiers, one is overpriced but in decent condition, the 2k one is in absolutely horrid condition. Is there a reason why you suggest a Rainier instead of it's more common cousin, the Trailblazer?
Not good enough, I need in-depth info.
Wyatt Davis
the buicks arent going to be driven as hard when have you ever recalled someone driving a buick besides a grand national like a dick?
Nathan Reyes
that car has been in a crash. the doors are dented and the headlights don't match. that should be enough reason.
It's low miles but already mangled and salvaged. Shitty owner. Also salvage=expensive insurance. That thing is gonna fall apart in minutes and is hilariously overpriced for the miles. Gonna rape your wallet on gas and then leave you stranded. Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota Matrix but cheaper because people don't know that. My mom has one and it's been a great car. Buy it.
Also look at Ford Focus. Cheap cars, nobody cares because not Japanese. Super cheap to fix. Bought my GF one and it's been good. Super good on gas. Get a 2.3 Duratec if possible for optimal reliability/power.
A high mileage Honda or Lexus is much better than a low mileage Jeep or Kia. Cheap new cars are cheap because they are shit. The Kia might be o.k... my mom had a Kia forte and it was shit. Chrysler 4.7s can be ticking time bombs. My wife's 4.7 05 jeep was constant shit, but my 04 Dakota was great. It's a pretty big risk. I would consider a jeep if it has a 4.0
Your choices indicate you don't know anything about cars, so just get a Honda Civic or accord, or a Toyota carolla if you can find one in your budget. Check to see if they have maintance records.
Nicholas Green
I've been looking for cheap cars myself. Do they even make manual civics?
I went and looked at Lexuses, what do you think of these? I don't know if it's just me, but the LS400 is nowhere to be seen? This one is the one I'm looking for the most and it just seems to not be anywehere in SoCal, wtf?
>Just drive from USA through Mexico-Belize-Guatemala-Honduras-Nicaragua-El Salvador and back. No problems at all - perfect car.
jfc, why the fuck would you do that in a CITY CAR!
Levi Foster
dude stop looking at these salvage title cars, you are asking for trouble
even if it's toyota, a salvage car is begging for problems. selling a car with a salvage title means it's so fucked it isn't even worth fixing and turning it until a rebuilt
it's so fucked it can only be used for parts or scrap metal
you aren't a mechanic or a gearhead, buying a salvage car for college is asking to be abandoned
All lexus non-suvs are bulletproof wonderful cars though, if you can snipe one go for it
