I'll probably buy surprise tickets every time they pop up, and maybe a star gacha here and there.

If Dark is playable without Szoi, I would rather roll for new characters in legfests, though. There's no chance I'd have enough for her this summer, so it would be even more painful, and I'd much rather develop 2/3 elements instead of holding out for only one.

In particular I'd like to get Vira and Naru for Dark for when I actually try to run it, and like I mentioned before, I'm torn between using the SD on Lecia for long term Wind (no way I'm clearing story chapter 75 for a long time, but she's super cute), Rosetta (also cute), or SSR Kat (also great).

JK is stellar for early and midgame or soloing in general and isn't gated behind rape bird like Lecia is. Lecia requires her third skill to be stronger than SRs. Keep in mind though that JK is average in raids with other people when they use blind or charm. Black Knight isn't worth spending money on, non limiteds like DJannu or Naru are much better than her.
You have the correct idea that playing dark will be hard early on, especially since you don't have Zoi. Baha helps a lot in offsetting that though so it's your call. Personally I'd advise you to go with Wind and use it to buy claws and farm Celeste. It's a shame your SD is now and not during/after legfest, two or three SSRs could change a lot.
