Siegfrieds story is completely different, if I remember correctly there was a war between two kingdoms, and the 1 king basically "hired" siegfried to get shit done, he was rewarded with balmung as payment, but I seem to recall the king that hired him doing something shady and then Siegfried got pissed, so he just took Balmung and left after doing his job.
