I'm guilty of not doing s many many times. Also I'd recommend slowing things down a little. Describe how she feels, what she thinks.
When she wakes up the alarms are screeching like some screechy alien animal or something, she feels the ship shake and she hears the loud howl of the RCS thrusters firing wildly. The commander rushes in, half dressed and with smeared facepaint. He screams at her, get up! She rushes to get her armour on, what is going on, who could be attacking them over earth? The implant hums in her neck as it warms up. etc.
