It's only special moves at first, then combos.

do the specials and then you unlock the actual combos

specials > beginner combos > advanced combos

you need to finish each to get to the next

I knew that people overreacted way too much at Gief's changes.

Vega got easily the biggest buffs. Now he can do a Barcelona Claw CA cross-up setup. He already had a cross-up CA setup but it was very situational. The new one works on almost every character minus Rog and someone else and can be done at any place from the screen.

GG is more of the same. Easier than it's predecessor, but if you didn't like it then, I don't see why your opinion of it would change. Maybe you've become better at fighting games and may appreciated it more today. Who knows? Both are fun.
