Tesla wirelessly EXTENDS RANGE for Florida cars

WEW LAD
>Wondering how that’s even possible?
>Up until a few months ago, Tesla sold a 60kWh version of its Model S and Model X vehicles — but the battery in those cars was actually rated at 75kWh. The thinking: Tesla could offer a more affordable 60kWh version to those who didn’t need the full range of the 75kWh battery — but to keep things simple, they’d just use the same 75kWh battery and lock it on the software side. If 60kWh buyers found they needed more range and wanted to upgrade later, they could… or if Tesla wanted to suddenly bestow owners with some extra range in case of an emergency, they could.

what's funny about this? this is extremely helpful for those that are getting away.

im pretty sure its the fact that everyone who owns one should get a 75kwh battery but are getting cucked intel style, with a good goy $5000 update to access something already in the fucking car

Link to story you fucking cunt

>We'll let you use all of YOUR car that you already own for extra money!

musk truly a genius

This.

That said when are we gonna have people jail-breaking them for the range.

Wew lad Teslafags on retard watch.

Wow its fucking nothing!!

>Manufacturers sell the same engine in several versions
>Some versions make less power due to engine mapping

Happens in regular cars all the time

post an example m8

>inb4 some retard shit where they slapped a turbo and forged internals into a tiny 4 banger that you think is the same

No, VW are the biggest offenders of it. It's done mainly on their diesels. That's why everybody who gets TDI in eastern europe chips it and gets a decent power increase.

Literally every special edition lamborghini, ferrari, the GTR, the LFA, the ls1 in vettes and so on

Stop being clueless

Yamaha R1-Yamaha MT10/FZ10
BMW S1000RR-BMW S1000R

This isn't any different than other car makers releasing five version of the same engine that where the only difference is the ECU map.

That's not the problem at all. In this case it has nothing to do with engine mapping, it's you paying 5k to "unlock" the remainder of your battery via an OS update.

Older 96-99 or something Honda's with the D14A4 engine.

They sold a "city 75HP" version and also a more expensive "sport 90 HP" version. The difference only being the throttle body gasket.

Ford with the 1.6 Fiesta
>Zetec
>Zetec S
>Metal
all the same, naturally aspirated engine-just with a different tune offering incremental power increases

Yes it is, because with those particular cars an ECU map can be changed to better suit economy or performance.

This is literally Tesla adding something to restrict performance of the battery and then unlock it for a fee.

>cagecucks receive charity battery
>biker bros packing massive torque already zoomed the fuck outta the state on one wheel

When will cagers lern mayn?

Nah, they made it 4 miles then got clipped by a twingo and died.

>doesn't even post his own bike

>

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

But with regular cars crippleware tunes arent common except maybe in third world country where power get taxed or make insurance more expensive.

>Electric cars come with on-disc DLC

LMAO

How long until you can jailbreak/root your tesla?

Like, does anyone even undersatand how this could be bad? Remotely doing things like this. They could downgrade batteries or shut down your vehicle permanently.

Full on fucking botnet.

This guy is actually right. There are savings for the manuf. if they limit the power. You pay much less in warranty repairs, service deals etc and they are often driven much less harshly than (((sport))) editions.

>flash new ECU map
>get full 75 kW battery

anything stopping someone from doing this

other than tesla being a nanny company that would probably disable supercharger access and cuck you when you need service

Can't you just fuck up the cellular modem?

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

wait, is it confirmed that the 60/75 batteries are really the same size and weight?
i was under the impression that the true battery capacity of a 75kwh-tesla is even higher than advertised, but is only allowed to be charged up to a level of ~80%. Which might explain the minimal range loss over the years

>buy a house
>notice a door is locked
>call agent
>yeah ill unlock it for 5 grand
this is some high level cuckold shit

how is it any different than cars selling "performance packages" that are just a higher performance engine mapping though?

i imagine if you went to a 3rd party or a tuner to unlock the extra battery tesla would throw a fit

>manufacturer limits battery to increase life
>It's like they haven't been doing this since the fucking Volt

Plebs and shit they dont understand everybody.

GAHAHGHAHGHAGHAH

FUCKING WE'RE DONE FOR, THE AMERIFATS ARE GOING TO WIN THE CAR RACE

THE EU IS DONE FOR

DELETE THIS OP

they probably would but it's entirely within the owner's right to modify their vehicle. You don't see normal companies complaining about modified vehicles

and OEMs void warranties for it, which I think counts as "throwing a fit"

>redditors being clueless tasteless retards as usual
Any other news?

>void warranty
>vs
>sued, cant use any tesla chargers anymore
sounds gud!

This is very different from anything that has ever happened, think of it this way.

Tesla knows at all times where every single car it makes is, and they have more power over it than you do. They decided to alter the "fuel capacity" of the car without any input from anyone, without permission and they done it only to the cars in one specific location because of a highly advertised event.

If you go on forums and look around, you will find cases of Tesla remotely turning your car off, as in you can't use it, because of reasons until you do right by them, whatever that may be.

Plus, they did this as an advertising stunt, and it totally back fired on their faces.

Tesla sister going to survive you for modifying your car

*Tesla isn't going to sue you for modifying your car

fuck tesla buy this instead youtu.be/ePJ8xcL3HAE

>Slicks
You mean bikers hydroplaned into a pole and were flung into the hurricane, surely.

>see Apple

>>Wondering how that’s even possible?

Nissan Leafs post 2013 have the option to limit charging to 80% to extend battery life. 75kWh*0.80=60kWh so maybe Tesla does it by default.

Also lithium cells have 2 stage charging where 80-90% of the charging is done in the first stage (constant current) and the rest is topped off in the second stage (constant voltage because going over 4.2V makes them explode) which takes a long time to complete from the low charge current. Maybe Tesla wanted to market it as "fast charging" by only using the first stage.

Whats stooping someone from installing 75kwh firmware on their 60?

Wrong at least on the S1000R/RR front.

different internals

Prolly got some always on DRM tier shit going on

Truly the DLC of cars.

Nobody got sued. I haven't read about Terms and Conditions banning modifications on Tesla, but I guess it's normal for them to stop offering you free electricity if you cheat with their limitations. You can still buy your own electricity and stop considering you deserve everything for free like a Yuropean socialist.

Tractor have limitations now, you can't install your own sat nav or autopilot if the manufacturer offer one as an option. (These options have existed to navigate wheat fields for a while.)

I heard of tesla turning off stolen cars, not the car of rightful owners.
Of course some nignogs will complain "their" stolen car got remotely blocked like an iPhone.

They work when there isn't cell phone coverage.
You need the key, like a regular car, it won't start with just the phone app.

>I heard of tesla turning off stolen cars, not the car of rightful owners.

There's cases of people buying teslas salvaged and then the new owner can't reactivate the car on his own because tesla has a "on/off switch" and won't turn it on for you unless you sign waivers and allow them to "inspect" the car. And people actually defend tesla doing this shit, and with that the first sale doctrine goes out the fucking window.

If you consider the power they have over your $70000 car, more power than you have, the tracking of the car itself, they also control the charging points. If you bad mouth them will they cut you off? Will they not allow you to charge your car? Will they charge salvaged or used teslas for things they dont charge new owners? They already refuse to sell parts.

fucking freemium games
now in your car
thanks Tesla™

Then why not add a 75kwh switch instead of having a chip that kill itself to prevent you from having 75 kwh for free.

Because you don't own your car. You paid for the software license to be able to use it.
