Its a great low power track car. Better than its competition which is low power FWD shit boxes with sport trim.

They're an amazing car that is all about driving experience and has won multiple awards from multiple magazines and shows and is praised by a bunch of legit car guys.

The same people who make fun of it are the same people who love the AE86, S2k, Miata, etc. It's also basically a confirmed future classic. Every thread on Veeky Forums where we predict what will be sought after in the future, everyone agrees the 86 will be one of them since it's literally the 240sx of this generation.

The problems arise with the cost of the car brand new. Save up just a little bit more and now you have a Mustang GT. Highly doubt they will release a factory turbocharged 86 or BRZ, would impede on future Supra sells and WRX sells.

The criticism, good and bad, is pretty accurate. I wouldn't have even thought about buying one if I hadn't come across a used one for the right price while I was out looking for a new plain old Impreza wagon.

I'd probably rather have a miat except that the BRZ can actually haul some stuff/people once in a while. It's pretty fun once you get over that it's not fast, not luxurious, and it's just meant to be some plain old cheap japbox fun.

if the mustang didn't exist they might have a place, but when you can spend a few thousand more or even the same price if new for 150 more horsepower, with also rwd, manual option, etc. it's not really a good choice unless you only buy jap cars

What if I want something small? I've seen a few similar-looking Mustangs around me in the past year that I might have considered buying.

But I wouldn't even have considered a BRZ at anything like full price, and the closest American thing to what I was looking for was a big old Mustang that was, well, big and old.

fiesta ST, but when it comes to that the BRZ and ST are very similar, ST just has better power to weight ratio.

RWD was a requirement if I was going to pay a little more than just buying another utilitybox.

Why would I want FWD for that? I'm coming from AWD. There is no comparison.

The only time I've been betrayed is when I tried to gun it on a wet road and the computer just pulled all the power out and it didn't even spin the wheels. The rest was just learning how to apply power and attack angle differently to avoid spinning the wheels or having the T/C save my ass from knocking into something. And now that I have a feel for it I'm about ready to start turning that off so I can get it slightly sideways as easily as I used to with AWD.
