a pixel remake of a successful game that is better optimized and more people can run it thus a broader audience

you forgot about worse graphics with indiepixelshit no less cutting your audience in half

You can't gain such a huge audience without cutting edge physically based unreal engine graphics.

yes, that seems to be the thing lately

having a game that stutters because of too much particles and shitty shaders is a make it or break it thing for many people

I'm looking at you Hollow Knight

>tfw want to make a game like Morrowind with better combat system and engine but would ruin the charm

>World of Warcraft but pixel art

>a good game

>unreal meme
3d is 3d, it doesn't depend on engine.

>3 billions people in India and China
Why aren't you making a game targeted at them right now, user?

You can't get equivalent graphics on Unity, and any other engine is either not openly available or is total shit like Cryengine.

how do I do that?

I think she's about ready to texture.

I don't know, I was just writing a meme out of habit. I didn't think this through, sorry. I'm feeling meh right now.

How does one make a game targeting India though

How long do you feel a roguelike should be? What's the limit?

long enough to get at least 200hrs of gameplay, preferably 500hrs

concept art?

Someone please tell me how to not make a hellish abomination when retargeting animations

Unless you're in China, or know someone trustworthy there (kek), it's highly likely you're just going to be fucked over by the chinese company you have to go through to operate there and good luck trying to fight being fucked in the ass by their 2 inch dicks through western courts.

Just wanted to make a shortstack.

And you made a retarded midget.

Because I care about making good games, not about making the most money.

What do you think a shortstack is?

Cloth psychics are absolute hell

> Cloth physics
> Pixelshit anime platformer

money is the most objective measurement of the game quality lol

I guess Skyrim really is one of the best games of all time.

usually when people say good they mean good subjectively
in the end that's all that matters really

What people say is subjectively good doesn't matter.

Doesn't matter to you, maybe.
Subjectively.

Not him, I know you wanted to meme, but Skyrim is one of the best games of all time. It literally made gaming history.

I don't think you know what "best" means.

You cannot call something objectively good. That is a fundamental misunderstanding of the term "objectively".

Yes, better than the majority of the good ones.

'One of the best' is not 'the best than all ever existing games'.

the secret sauce is cheap 3D graphics with high resolution textures. most people are too braindead to spot the difference

a friendly reminder, it's easier to get pixel and lowpoly art right while anything higher will give the uncanny valley feel

HK was fixed like a week after release my man.
Making gaming history has no bearing on what is or is not best you mongoose.

i can call whatever however i want. That is a fundamental misunderstanding of my abilities.

I decided to not kill myself and make a game instead while living off my savings which will last me about 4 years. What are the chances of me making it and not killing myself in 4 years?

>tfw memory leaks because C# garbage "collector" doesn't do anything properly

Wrong. You cannot, because I have decided you cannot.

Because I want to make money, and they don't have money

that's why it's called garbage baka

you have to take special care to leak memory with a garbage collector

GC is no excuse for not understanding memory

msdn.microsoft.com/library/0xy59wtx

>tfw memory leaks because of shitty code
git gud

I think you should make money instead of make games

you should spend your savings on therapy instead desu

How much progress have you made so far?

Take that, and then continue the trend for the next 4 years.

Made history for what, being the largest furry RP snorefest? lmao

Money is a concept made by ancient Jews to enslave humanity.

Except you only make gaming history if you are exceptionally good or exceptionally bad.

progress is nonlinear, otherwise i would have multiple games released by now

That's not true. Plenty of mediocre things become wildly popular and therefore make history -- Sherlock Holmes for literature, for example, or many Blizzard games for vidya.

It also feeds you and pays rent
You can fight the powers that be after you have money

Take the average amount of work you put into your projects, and then continue the trend for the next 4 years.

As the new standard for fantasy medieval RPGs. It basically combined the best of Oblivion setting with Fallout upgrades.

how come python rarely has memory leaks?

post your design docs

He has savings for next 4 years, why would he make more money instead of doing what makes him happy, and then go back to being a wageslave after 4 years?

Did it?

I can't think of any games which are like Skyrim and medieval RPGs.

Because it's garbage collected.

>Sherlock Holmes
>mediocre
Opinion discarded.

...user, that's a very normal opinion. I think I'm seeing why you think Skyrim is one of the best games of all time.

i bet i can make it leak

Are you nuts? Go take a look at Steam store. Heck did you see Zelda Breath of Skyrim?

Do you think Skyrim invented the open world genre? BotW was a lot closer to Ubisoft stuff than Bethesda.

Except it isn't, unless for the hipsters. Sherlock Holmes is one of the best mystery detective adventures, praised by basically everybody. /v/ please leave.

Is there any resource on how to make sure your game is actually ready for the public? I'm an artfag and have just been following GameMaker tutorials and learning basic programming, but I have no idea about stuff like memory leaks and shit like that

It didn't invent, but it did revolutionarize it.

Also which Ubisoft game you think BotW is closer than Skyrim?

It really isn't. Obviously the detective genre as a whole is largely looked down upon, but some Agatha Christie (and obviously Chesterton in general) is accepted as at least decent. Not Sherlock, though.

And, again, this is a non-controversial opinion. The fact you think it is...well, like I said, it reflects poorly on you.

>it did revolutionise it
It didn't. It just kinda watered down its previous iteration.

I'm kinda struggling to support you, because I keep thinking "Skyrim was massively successful, it MUST have had some big impact on the industry", but I can't think of anything.
>Also which Ubisoft game you think BotW is closer than Skyrim?
All of the open world ones.

>as the new standard
It's gonna be forgotten in 5 years

Your favorite game does not mean it is that important

>it's true because I said so
Except that it isn't, you won't find any respectable writer who bashes it.

>It didn't. It just kinda watered down its previous iteration.
What are you talking about? It miles upwards from Oblivion.

>All of the open world ones.
Go be retarded somewhere else.

It's gonna be forgotten as soon as another game set another standard.

Anyone familiar with Renpy? I'm trying to make game that looks with a UI like pic related.

To be clear I want the dialogue window to not be a part of the background image and have it's own section on the game window and have a solid black background. Anyone know how?

Currently by default the dialogue window is on top of the background image with a low opacity and I don't like this.

I tried some Renpy but not much. Sorry.

Trying to get a snes style rpg look but in 3d
its hard but i think im getting somewhere near close
Shaders gona need a lot of fiddling

>Trying to get a snes style rpg look
for what purpose

My own nostalgia :)

This would literally take 10 minutes to do in any engine/framework ever.

>you won't find any respectable writer who bashes it.
Most respectable writers don't even think about it.

I know it's not an excuse but I am very new at this and I'm still not sure what I'm doing.

I've already gone through the tutorial and it doesn't have an answer for me.

>What are you talking about? It miles upwards from Oblivion.

Oblivion wasn't good but how can you seriously say Skyrim "revolutionized" open world games?

You have an open world where you can literally walk straight from a to b without any breaks or skips, where you learn the geography just from commuting like in the real world. And YET bethesda can't be arsed to give questgivers a single sentence or two of information about direction. Instead you've got follow-the-glowing-arrow like every single other triple A fucking game. What's the point of the open world then? Skyrim would have been the same game if they had made it like Dragon Age where you just load major areas without the travelling.

It's not like it even costs too much to add the minor fixes which would have fully utilized the open world setting. Fuck they even give you the option to turn off waypoints, after which the game becomes unplayable because there are no in-game directions to anything.

i broke all my sourcecode and now i slowly fix it

>What's the point of the open world then?
not constraining where you can go

protip: fast travel literally ruins the game

>protip: fast travel literally ruins the game

Basically my point.

Everything open world provides was squandered in that game.

no it isn't. just don't use fast travel. it is completely 100% optional

You're retarded.
The game was designed under the assumption that the player would use it.

Per playthrough?

Ohayou aggydaggy! Do your best today!

What's the best looking 1MA game on the market? No pixelshit.

A playthrough shouldn't last longer than an hour.

I put like 80 hours into it without using fast travel a single time. I even turned off markers which led me to a wild goose chase through the mountains before I finally found the thing. Which was fun and atmospheric and revealed some side quests.

The game is designed to be explored. Fast travel and markers go against that.

monster girl gamu!

make the say screen (dialogue window) always visible, and design your backgrounds to have an extra white space or just draw them at an offset

Purely in terms of graphics or the game as a whole?

I think I'm going to make a Zelda like game

purely graphics
