I don't know about Smash, but the FGC commentator situation really needs to be changed. Think of any event, you'll either have two options; an "established" commentator is doing the event (such as UltraDavid, Sajam, Chen, Tasty Steve, Logan, etc) or a random player is doing the event.

As soon as the second one happens, the TO has fucked up. To be good at commentary, you have to have serious knowledge about the game. But just because you have knowledge, doesn't mean that you're able to commentate. Most people who play these games are poor at describing what's going on in the game in a quick, accurate manner. When this kind of commentator is on, the viewers will drop because this is just the TO being lazy or a cheap fuck.

Those "established" commentators are not perfect either. They rely on repeating the same tired phrases again and again and unless it's top 8, they put very little effort into their work. Is this really a surprise though?

Events need to pay more (UltraDavid for example gets paid very little for his Evo work) because right now there's no motivation for people to become good at commentating. They'll get their flights, hotel fees and such paid for and some spending money but they can't make any serious money from it. If the commentator dares to ask for more money, then the Event will do what I mentioned earlier and ask a player to commentate (which many are willing to do for free). It shows that a TO does not care for anything but money when they do this, the stream quality is going to suffer to a ridiculous degree because they are not willing to pay good people to commentate.

While a union boycotting an event sounds dumb as fuck, it might force TO to pay the commentators for the job they're doing which should help create better commentators because they can start to take this shit more seriously. It's dumb as fuck that commentators went to Evo last year and ended up LOSING money for doing the event.

I just tried playing xrd with my cheap gamesir and the dpad felt like shit but I could easily do everything with the analog stick like IAD etc. Very comfy, fast and I could hit all 9 inputs easily

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.
