No, but you can't really go wrong in EOIV. The only exception is subclassing, which you don't get for a while, and which you pretty much just subclass Bushi to everything.
EO4 is one of the easier titles in the series, as long as you use your head a bit and don't do something silly like make a party of 5 medics you'll be fine.
