Well we have a date. Any truckers want to share their thoughts?
Tesla Semi
not a trucker.
but why does anyone pay attention to this idiot and his pyramid scheme when he doesnt deliver on products?
truck drivers are by far the most uneducated and disliked union there is
yet another one falls to the
>musk is a huckster
meme. what a shame.
there are three million of them, more than I thought before I did some searching. EV trucks would be disruptive to their industry, no? Just wanted to know if any of them had any thoughts on what they think EVs would take from or bring to their profession...
>EV trucks would be disruptive to their industry, no?
no they wouldnt. CDL rules and laws would still apply and will continue to apply in the near future. PLUS, if the EV truck is automated, companies will not use them because they'll follow the law and will be unable to do deliveries on time, have you seen how truckers drive on the interstate?
Aren't people still waiting to have their orders fulfilled from the first round of preorders like 4 years ago?
I heard there's horrific panel gap issues and reliability problems among the entire Tesla range. Not exactly something you want to hear about a 6 figure automobile.
that's an interesting point about how the standards in the industry are maybe based on skirting the rules to begin with. But, I'd imagine that the benefits would outweigh whatever speed/sleep requirements current drivers had. Even if you have a driver go for 17 hours straight instead of whatever is the max allowed in a day, that still isn't as good as 24hrs, which a hot-swappable battery level 5 autonomy EV rig would do no?
I COULDNT CARE LESS
THIS IS YOUR PUNISHMENT FOR SUPPORTING TRUMP
ELON MUSK IS PUNISHING YOU FOR DENYING CLIMATE BY REPLACING YOU WITH AN ECO FRIENDLY ROBOT
SAY YOU ARE SORRY
literally making shit up
The preorder stuff is for the model 3. You've been able to buy a S or X without more than the normal delivery wait (excluding custom orders) for a couple years now. In fact, they have a surplus of inventory as of now. The reliability is an issue, but it seems to be mainly lemons — not widespread design issues. besides the panel gaps of course, those seem to be a tesla feature now.
Elon youre dreaming.
First of all... even if rules and regulations wouldn't apply and you were able to do more than a 8 hour drive at a time (one of the rules they do not skirt), you still need a person to unload the truck. Most transportation companies are small and have a low number (a dozen or a few dozen) and they do deliveries by hand out of the back bay door by hand. I know a particular big company in PA that just recently went to pallets and when they deliver to a different distribution company they have to restack pallets in order to get that shit delivered. So you still have the cost of the human there, you'd have a much higher cost of the EV truck, why even switch? They're not going to change the way they do business.
You can fuck off back to cuckkit tesla now
is it not common to just drop off the trailer and pick it up later? The big Safeway distribution center near me always has most of its loading bays full of truck-less trailers. I'd imagine that that sort of situation is pretty common, rather than the small operation deal you're explaining. Or perhaps not
>is it not common to just drop off the trailer and pick it up later?
no because of issues between distributors and transportation companies, that is less common than most people think. you over estimate how much these companies trust eachother, they scrutinize their billing and time to the point of ridiculous, for many reasons, one of which is drivers are such fuck ups, no one wants that job that already tells you what kind of people you get, another reason, companies who use them think transportation companies are the scum of the earth, then you have warehouse and store managers on power trips of the sort "you have to pull out because truch XYZ is here and he's got priority over you" you got to put all that shit back on the truck and pull out, let the other guy have the bay, let him unload and then you start unloading all over again. You don't leave a trailer there without checking its entire contents because, no trust, so by the time you sit around doing all that, you take the trailer back with you.
jeez. seems like a shitshow
its actually amazing how things get done at all, most stores in the country and distribution warehouses in the country do not have enough inventory to miss more than one truck. it all works on a prayer.
semi trucks are capital equipment that serve one purpose. to make their owners money. its not about being a special snowflake hipster with your overpriced personal conveyance, its about being cost effective, delivering trailers reliably and on time, and having ez maintenance.
EV's might work for regional delivery trucks, but OTR stuff is going to be diesel for many, many years.
It is in fact, you, that is literally making shit up.
Tesla fans are pure cancer. Unbelievably cultish
>muh cult boogyman
attacking the fans instead of the product, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
No. I already pointed out the flaws with the product and your only response was "literally making shit up".
Stop it. You're embarrassing.
>attacking the fans instead of the product,
What is the number of total vehicles delivered and what is the total number of remaining orders?
oh no watch out everyone we have a badass over here
go huff your black ice somewhere else tard
well EVs have maintenance, and being on-time down pat. It's just a question about the overall cost equation and how they compare to existing rigs. Even if they are just 5% cheaper and 5% more reliable, that's good enough for the peanut counters out there. It'll be interesting for sure
If it doesn't look like this then it can fuck right off
>continues to dodge the questions about the product
>delivered
around 200k globally.
>ordered
well the model 3 has something like 500,000 pre-orders. But that doesn't exactly count, because it's a brand new production line and a brand new product. You can't expect them to pop out 500k cars overnight. At least wait to see if their ramp-up schedule is on track, mmkay?
lewd
I used to unload trailers in warehouses around the city. Walmart has their shit pretty fucking dialed. Then you walk into another DC and it's like walking back in time. Most other warehouses and DC's are extremely inefficient and that's why you see such a price differences between Walmart and the others.
People don't realize how much time and resources it takes to get goods to the shelves. There's definitely no such thing as being green. It takes a lot of diesel to get shit done and likely will for years to come.
lmfao the battery will last a mile
I would be far more excited if they do an electric robotic lawnmower that can mow 50 acres. Or a electric 50hp tractor.
It's gonna crash and burn just like how Ford made semi trucks and failed miserably.
These electric trucks must be able to pull 80,000 lbs for 12 hours, recharge in 12 hours, and cost not much more than a regular semi if any companies are actually going to purchase them. That sounds impossible to me and I think that this is a marketing gimmick.
wtf does someone sit in bottom like this
>well EVs have maintenance, and being on-time down pat
thats not true because there are not electric semi's yet. go hang out in the trucker fag thread. there is a huge logistical network thats in place to support current trucks that is non existent for any theoretical EV's. and as one user already pointed out, even if you could fully automate the actual driving portion of trucking you still need a human there for the mountains of other bullshit it takes to get a load delivered on time.
according to tesla they have buyers lined up already. Lots from the major trucking firms. It's a pretty big stretch to call it impossible imo. It'll work for some section of the trucking market, definitely not all though
>just crush me to death
12 hour shifts are illegal though
crushed by what exactly?
jesus christ elon, way to twist up facts. let's start with the 200k number. First of all, where did you get that from? Second of all in ten years, 200000 cars is all this brilliant company has produced, ten years, thats twenty thousand cars pery year. which is laughable.
> You can't expect them to pop out 500k cars overnight
They've had ten fucking years, who said anything about over night, were this not a company backed up by monopoly money it would have died five years ago. Plus, they make no money from the cars themselves, secondly, your 500k pre orders don't mean jack shit if you can't deliver the product, and the orders are non binding.
Trucker here.
Cummins beat Tesla. Cry more shills.
the giant hanging mass 12" over your head
when a semi driver overestimates the height of a bridge/overpass, his cab usually goes under and the trailer gets jammed/crushed
in that thing, YOU get crushed
i thought it needed mirrors
what the fuck is going on with them wheels
C A M E R A S
to work with the trademark
G I A N T T A B L E T
where is the camera mounted?
The Tesla semi are impractical due to that it wouldn't be able to go far and probably have a long charge time which means more down time and no dealer network to provide parts and service also no trained tech and Cummins has already came out with their version of a Electric drivetrain
that shit bothers me a lot about electric cars. cant you get a normal EINK gauge and turn off the tablets?? seems like that would make your battery go further.
Tesla semi is going to take their jobs in 10 years, tops.
Sorry, the actual number is 174,032. :^)
would be tiny compared to the pull of the motors. an iPad is like 11,560 mAh, and it last a good 7 hours on one charge.
you don't need to know that, just look at the tablet user
the truck drives itself anyhow, just sit back and trust Papa Musk
but people buy the car for the giant iPad gimmick, just as they buy Fordshit and Chevyshit with giant tablets rammed into the dash
how do they expect it to not overheat, especially in the mountains. on top of that a regular truck can go through a "charge" full tank of gas and have it refilled in a few minutes, an electric truck would take hours to refuel and i'm guessing the batteries wouldn't last long anyway when pulling a load
The fuck are you guys talking about?
external battery pack on the trailer maybe?
I love listening to people doubt the Musk. Sometimes I like to switch back and forth between Veeky Forums, stocktwits and my TSLA portfolios and just pleasure myself to it all.
If you really think the guy is a moron and his company is shit, go open up a short position like so many other people that have collectively lost billions of dollars so far this year alone.
don't forget, FMVSS 111 goes into effect next year. Every single new car will have to have a medium-large digital screen with a backup camera :^)
>would be tiny compared to the pull of the motors
give me the option, its a car for god sakes not a computer.
I have a backup camera that inset to my rearview mirror, it only appears when I put my FJ in reverse.
I'm not knocking the cameras, for my vehicle it really does help me ensure I'm only backing over the people I want to.
But on stuff like a Ford Focus it's just fucking stupid.
it'll supposedly have a lot of motors, maybe six. That would distribute the motor heat a bit. Coolant systems for EVs is not that difficult, it's just that companies want to skimp on them to save weight and cost. Like, the leaf is air-cooled, which is why it can't do well in the winter compared to liquid cooled teslas which can better thermally manage the batteries
>i dont understand how bubbles work
>"unveil" can be used as a present participle.
You just knew Elon Musk would be one of these faggots who talks in MBAspeak.
if its a bubble and youre smart enough to know that, then surely you have a short position open so you can get rich when it tanks, right?
yeah but what's the incentive to pay to install battery packs on a trailer which will also amount to more weight?
Shorting bubble is way harder since they burst so quickly compared to the way up
210k Model S
50k Model X
2500 Roadsters
All cars have been delivered as promised. Nobody was expecting a Model 3 to be delivered a year ago.
>They've had ten fucking years
Do you know how many car companies have emerged in the last 70 years and delivered more than 100k cars? 0. Nobody with a brain thinks Tesla is underperforming productionwise, which is why their company is valued higher than every other manufacturer. Maybe you should try using your brain (or at least try to mimic people that are capable of doing so) instead of getting emotional over a "fan base."
he he he, I get my daily chuckle out of seekingalpha articles about tesla. Some serious mental gymnastics going on over there. Like half of the SA articles are either about tesla bashing or tesla praising, it's pretty funny either way. A lot of people are going to be really hurting pretty soon. No limit to the losses from shorting, hah
I just added up the published quarterly deliveries to get 174,032. Where did your numbers come from? I thought the 200k S was still a ways away
>this libcuck meltdown
Nah, it'll be a massive battery that takes up almost all the cargo space.
Deliver during the week, track it on the weekends. Pickup and deliver truckloads of babes on holiday. Based Ferrari.
so? buy some puts then.
yeah theyre a hoot. every other one is like "GS puts out a target price of $180" or "billionaire investor says it'll be $500 by EOY". it's hilarious.
i mean, i could be wrong. but at least im putting my money where my mouth is. i respect the people who do the same whether theyre long or short. i just lol at all the people who spend so much time and energy going online and bashing tesla for being such a supposedly garbage company, but lack the conviction to actually back it up with anything. how can you expect anyone to take you seriously if you dont take yourself seriously?
In 10 years it's entirely possible all the established car brands killed Telsa with superior electric cars.
The solid state battery is the tesla killer.
Elon would be fine with that, apparently. He wanted Tesla to encourage competition in the EV market. The whole thing is a front to sneakily make EVs popular. Tesla might just be a energy company in a decade, who knows
He's only "fine" with it because it's inevitable. He's saving face because he know's how fucked he is.
he's been saying that since day one buddy. oh yeah, he's fucked since they are building a factory to make a fuckton of batteries to sell to everyone... oh no...
thanks twitter
he literally released all his electric car patents to the world for free over 3 years ago. cars are only the first tiny stepping stone towards what theyre going to become.
>Nobody with a brain thinks Tesla is underperforming productionwise,
famous last words
t. 2014
>drive 4 miles
>battery dies
>have to charge for 48 hours
Yeah good luck with that there Elon.
You talking about your Power Wheels Barbie Jammin' Jeep Wrangler? This is an 18+ website, bozo.
more like 2007
>you should invest in real estate because the value will always go up
look at this shit, who would pay $1000 for a tesla? they gorge you with the '''''premium battery'''''' nonsense
>implying that's a Ferrari because your lazy ass saw a prancing horse and assumed.
Steinwinter Supercargo
does that come with ludicrous mode?
asking for.. my kid.. yeah.
I don't see these electric trucks as being capable or doing long haul shit. They might serve as yard trucks at best.
i have $5000 to mess around with and i have never fucked with the market.
Is now a good time?
Shilling this hard
stocks, yes. crypto, no. protip: buy chinese stocks. emerging markets are huge right now. go check out TAL, BZUN, EDU, etc. and of course TSLA.
American middle class is really getting fucked. Being a truck driver is basically the last skilled trade that doesn't require years of schooling to get into and pays a wage you can live on.
They're made for long hauls and are superior to human drivers as they never need to stop to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, etc and have a lower collision rate. Most of all though, there's no driver salary or benefits to pay. There's going to be no large corporation that uses human drivers in 10 years, so the market is going to get flooded with them willing to work dirt cheap.
>people treating this like revolutionary news
Cummins did it weeks ago. Musk doesn't do anything that hasn't already been done. And he doesn't really do it any better
would you take that money to a casino? stock market is no different, its a fools game and theres plenty of fools thinking you can make a fortune if only you know what youre doing. buy an index fund, dont play around with stocks. youll get jewed
a better advice would be, buy a apartment building/house and lease it, let the tenants pay your mortgage and you'll own property for free.
>being this ignorant about law and the business itself
>i have $5k
>buy a house
lol. but seriously this is not bad advice. ETFs and index funds are the safe way to go. but those are better served for long term pretax accounts. if you just want to fuck around and youre young and can accept the risk, go in on a few companies you believe in with money you can lose and it can pay off.
im really bullish on the BOTZ ETF right now myself. check that one out too.
>Is now a good time?
It's always a good time to buy and sell a house user. Alway!
tuckers are soon to be out of jobs, well long haul truckers that is. We'll still need meat sacks to unload the goods for now.
Should have stayed in school bitch boys.
10% of the US gdp involves transport. We're in for a wild ride lads
>i have $5k
>buy a house
i meant use the money as a downpayment on a cheap ass property somewhere. you can find one that cheap. fix it up on weekends if its in real bad shape, even at 500 a month if its at least 100 bucks over your mortgage payment you can cover insurance, and even if the
y burn the house down you are safe. and you will end up owning the property, the main thing is breaking even and covering the property taxes.
500 a month probably wouldn't even pay for tax, insurance, and maintenance on a leased property. and a place that cheap/shitty is going to be in a neighborhood attracting very undesirable tenants.
listen i agree with you, ive been looking into it myself lately and its a great way to make money, but not when you have $5k to play with. $100k and now you're talking. property ownership is way more expensive than you think. you cant just 'fix up' a house in your spare time. youre forgetting building permits, licensed tradesmen, lawyers, etc.
Enlighten me.
seeandthere is a fuckton more to trucking than just the moving the wheel and pedals part.
$5k is kiddie change when trading stocks
