How is it? There aren't any good reviews out yet so what are your thoughts so far?

It's pretty cool so far for a complete noob

The sonar is modelled really well and it's a very tense game to play

Holy shit my sides are gone. 50:12 if the link doesn't work.

Can't link to Facebook but coretex uploaded a video of the super hornet being started up

why did you remake this thread

He wanted to discuss simulators

...

M1 does not give a fuck.

Chobham for life

What's their endgame

This is going to be a bit of a lark lads. I just got a job so I can afford this game but should I wait a couple days or should I buy now? I'd love to check it out.

Anyone know how to enter a port in the Cold Waters campaign? Moving the sub icon over the square doesn't seem to work.

How does it play? Is it anything like Dangerous Waters?

...

:( RIP

don't remake the thread, seriously. Just pay your respects and let it go.

>Sneak up on a Kiev in a 688
>THE 668
>Spot two escorts and the oiler, maneuver into position
>Kiev spots me early
>fuckfuckohfuck.jpg
>launch a spread of torps and dive to avoid incoming Helicopter Rape
>Cross my fingers and pray
>All four hit, massive explosion
>Dodging helos for a good while, moving into position on the ASW escorts and the oiler
>While I was sucking my thumb 900 feet below the water I decided to try something new
>UNLEASH THE HARPOONS
>Flight time of less than a minute, poor Grisa's never stood a chance, one manages to decoy a Harpoon but the second one fucks him up
>Spare harpoon locks onto oiler - RIP in pepperoni
>Dodge the obnoxious heli STILL trying to figure out where I am before he has to bail out in the norwegian sea

>Get a silver star for blowing up the Kiev

How much better did the silent hunter games get with mods? It's pretty exciting to think about how much potential cold waters has because of mod support.

A lot. This game also looks like it's going to get at the very least some Soviet and British expansion packs, and probably a few other scenarios.

Mods will probably do some nice things for this game in the long run too. It's a solid foundation for the future in my opinion, and I'd pick it up if you're looking for a fun simulation/arcade mix. Dodging torpedoes has never been more fun.

Plays more like a beefed up SSN than Dangerous Waters, but it seems like it's going to be fun

nah

Why aren't submarine to air missiles more common? These helicopters are annoying as fuck.

Just surface and shoot it with igla

If anyone else nearby is looking for you, which there almost always is you'd risk giving away the location of a ~$1 Billion submarine for a chance of destroying a ~$20 Million dollar helicopter

Let's try and exist in the morning

Any body here play project cars? I just bought a wheel for it

we mainly talk about real sims here

like war thunder

most of us spent our autism bux on gaysticks and expensive make believe planes that aren't accurate to play in a single server where only 1 plane dominates

what do you think?

Coming for you sempai
youtu.be/oAXrRWLKzko

Blowing up Russian subs is easy with the Mk48 but Mk37 is absolute garbage and the moment enemies turn tail and flee there's nothing I can do.

Helicopters are also ridiculous. I can never shake them off.

It's been a few years since I've been to Veeky Forums but they used to have a racing sim general there. See if it still exists.

I don't suppose anyone has a link to Diveplanes audio modpack for DCS?
Every link I come across is either invalid or leads to an Enjin site which is long dead.

lockonfiles.com/files/category/666-sound-mods/

If by audio modpack you mean his seperate sound mods then I think this should have you covered.
Not sure about lockonfiles download restrictions though.

I've scoured LoF and it doesn't have what I'm looking for.

I'm specifically trying to find this:
forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=127881

According to the list posted on the forums the stuff you are looking for is included in Teeters Comprehensive Mod Comp so you could most likely tear it out of that.
Unfortunately the only "working" link I found so far is this OneDrive one which requires a login so you might want to check this out and see if it works for you.

>tfw going to be cadet pilot without having to go to college

worth?

Link seems dead too.

In the mean time I found another mod-compilation type deal that seems to have some of the sounds in so I'll rip them out of that.
Thanks for the help anyway user.

Sorry, I couldn't double check the link since I don't have a M$ account but I'm glad you found what you were looking for!
Enjoy and good luck

When you're in port an anchor icon appears. Can't quite figure out repairing and rearming though.

where the FUCK is my whale genocide simulator

RRRRREEEEEEEEE

>warcrimes

wew lad

This game, is it a SH5 mod or something?

Dropping SEALs into Archangelsk is a biiiitch.

Cold Waters. It's Tom Clancy's SSN with a waterfall display, torpedo control and the plot of Red Storm Rising

25% chance for wire breakage on launch.

Too bad the game freezes in the next screen.

Do the A-10C and Black Shark work well in 2.1?

Given that they are ED modules I would assume they went ahead and updated their textures to work with deferred shading. Which begs the question, have they improve the resolution on the Ka-50s default cockpit textures?

i know in cold waters the ship can lay to rest on the sea bed
can a ship actually crush your sub if it pins it to the seabed?

When does DCS usually have sales? Do they coincide them with Steam sales?

t. really want the Huey module

Any Russian or Western holiday and I think there's a summer sale in mid June

I feel fucking bad for missing out on steam sales on DCS with local prices.

Now I feel like I'll never buy a DCS module again.

>spend an hour creeping close to a SAM site in a Gazelle
>get shredded by laser AAA the moment I poke my optics up above the building I'm behind

Time well spent

Holy fuck, a November class went too deep trying to dodge my torpedos and imploded.

how are you supposed to figure out the target's depth and configure torpedoes for that? can the mk16s even be used against other subs?

irl it's classified so i can't really help you

>how are you supposed to figure out the target's depth
Once you get the target's course data you get depth as well. Open the conditions tab with the target selected. After you activate a wired torpedo by pressing 4 you can use numpad 8 and 5 to adjust depth. You can also adjust depth before that by toggling the third button option.
>mk16
Nope.

The A-10C looks fantastic with the new shading... literally feels like you're sitting inside a 100F cockpit at KLSV (Nellis).

Haven't tried the KA-50, it probably is the same experience.

Give up on the ED cockpit textures.. mods are so easy to install. For sure get the "Hog Of War," and your favorite textures for the Kamov (I have a blue HD cockpit in English).

Major problem with military sims.. you want to model an airliner? "LOL here's 30,000 pages of maintenance manuals and engineering data, have fun!"

You use Mk16s for engaging surface targets and Mk37s for engaging enemy subs, you can forget about trying to kill SSNs with the Mk37 though unless you're close and looking right at them

The cockpit mods for the Ka-50 rub me the wrong way.
Aside from being higher resolution and better translated [seriously, whoever translated the cockpit deserves to be shot, the 'INU Operation Mode' switch is labeled "INU" / "update", that doesn't even make sense] they look worse.

Instrument lighting is just a mere glow and looks far worse than stock.
Master arm colors were changed to an incorrect yellow/black
The actual black color used in the cockpit is a light shade of black and looks more grey in some parts.

Just changes the overall feel of the Cockpit enough to make it feel different.
oh yeah and the gauges look fucking disgusting with shitty coloured 'helper' tabs and are harder to read then stock.

Are people liking the '68 or '84 campaign more so far

84 with its ez mode torps is for plebs
68 is best campaign

How much travel does a real helicopter collective have? If I removed the spring from an old joystick, added some plastic tabs for resistance, and flipped it so the joystick faced the floor, would I have a reasonable approximation of a collective?

I've been in a Robinson R22 once and from my hazy memory its collective had way more travel than a joystick or even a HOTAS throttle would provide.

>I feel fucking bad for missing out on steam sales on DCS with local prices.
this
>tfw a-10c for example will never cost 10$ again

>doing last mission
>all tubes jam
>play matrix with a dozen torpedoes until they sink their own subs

nice sim. really made me think

High speed action right there!

>Mission to drop off SEAL team by Murmansk
>Manage to sneak past the surface ships but get detected and torped by a Kamov
>Still alive, hull at 48%
>Manage to complete the last leg of the journey and get to the deployment point
>Deploy SEALs
>Leave
>"Unacceptable mission outcome"

Do you have to do the entire thing undetected or it fails?

If you get detected it alerts enemy ground units and lowers the specops chance of success

How does it compare to the DOS Red Storm Rising?

...

what's it worried about

My cockpit mod has no color bands on the instruments, they are HD and stock markings. I have 2 versions, one in HD black, one in HD blue (my preference). Never noticed an issue with the backlighting, and have no idea about the master arm issue.

To each their own I guess.

>Want to do flight sim online with a bunch of idiots
>Lost my old copy of Flight Sim X when I moved
>Don't want to pay 3k just to be able to fly all over the planet

There is a plain gauges mod that you can use to overwrite the stock gauges in the HD mod, you probably have that.

The hash markings behind the master arm switch.
In the real thing they are white/black but in the HD mod that made them yellow/black.

As for the lighting, load up the base skin and you'll see what I mean, The backlighting looks like there are actual lights being turned on behind the instruments and not some faint glow.

Subs can't actually survive torpedo hits can they?

What range do you want to be when you fire the Mk37's? they seem waaaaaay to slow to really be of much use

they can but it's really rare.

Submarine combat is like air combat expect it's bvr all the time

And in slow motion

>user doesn't have a steam account
>can't wait about 2 months when FSX:Steam will go on sale for $5

HHHHUUURRRR HHHHHUUURRRRR

I think the gazelle's collective has 80 degrees of motion, but you're only goin to use about 45 of that in normal flight and the rest is emergency torque.

>Mig eater (IDS variant)
What?

...

Within 3k yards or so.

>not just buying with rubles

>Changed region to RUB while living in UK
>It's heaven to buy most stuff now, even better on sale

Name a game, and I give you how much you would save if you used rubles

Train sim + all DLC

>new game
>thread still ded

A few months ago we were doing 750 posts in 2 to 3 day. What changed?

>no ops
>eagle dynamics a shit
>BOS shitters, slavaboos and wehraboos can't be bothered shitposting anymore
I don't know user, you tell me.
It doesn't help that some very popular games have come out recently. It's also the summer and E3 soon. Threads which might havesurvived a few months ago get bumped off easily now

TFW all the vg generals you post in are half bump posts to keep them from ded

I'm trying to work on ops but I work full time and it's tiring/tedious to do them properly

Hopefully the next one will be ready by this weekend
