Looking to get the fiat 124 abarth, but wondering why the bad rep for fiat, what parts in particular and would this car be the exception? Is mazda that much more reliable?

cheap interior build quality. questionable reliability. but fuck if driving italian shit isn't fun.
This car would be the exception as most of it is Mazda except for the engine and turbo. So luckily the engine will be the first thing to go.
The multiair is a reliable engine tho.
I know 2 people with 500 Abarths and they both have well over 100k miles.
inb4 LPG shows up to shitpost about his fucking WOP fagbait roadster
Was in a similar situation to you but I ended up going with the ND. Been outstanding, and actually wish I had money to get a second one for modding purposes.
Anyways, their both essentially mazda cars on a mazda platform. The differences are on the outer looks and the fiat has their own engine/tranny.=
In terms of durability, the engine in the abarth is known to be decent in durability and dont know about the transmission.
Really the biggest standout difference is simple
Do you want a naturally aspirated Roadster or Turbo One?
I like the response of a Naturally Aspirated Engine
But some people enjoy the boost hit of a turbo.
Really comes down to tastes at end of day their both good cars though
FIX
why? other cars are faster. other cars have nicer interiors. other cars handle better.
ON
ROAD
DEAD
fix it again Tony
my mom has a fiat 500 they were built in the same mexican plant as the pt cruiser. steer clear of this heap of garbage
It's a Mazda Miata that looks cool
The transmission is the slightly stronger unit from the old Miata and the engine is the 500 Abarth engine, the only reliable thing FCA makes
It also says MOPAR under the hood, because why not?
Spoken like a true bus rider
What does the 500 being made in Mexico by Chrysler have to do with the 124 being made in Japan by Mazda?
>fiat
>reliable
pick one
>you
>the bus
Pick both
Nope, I picked one. I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the bus.
>It also says MOPAR under the hood, because why not?
imagine showing up to a boomer mopar meet with this thing and popping the hood
you can hear the grunting and excuses from here
yeah, you picked a different flavor of shit than that of the fiat
Says the guy who doesn't own it, it's been perfectly reliable to me.
Post your car. I posted mine.
that it's probably garbage judging by its predecessor
bought it years ago off the net, has the best engine ford ever made in it, closing in on 260k, haven't had to replace anything but window motors and some throttle body electronic shit
300?
>100k miles is somehow an achievement for a car
?????
yep. my dad had an 89 with the windsor and it's more fun to drive but it's needed engine work after a while
How likely is it that I can pick one up in exchange for some belly button lint since of the depreciation of chrysler products?
giving that they don't have the "everyman's fun car, best selling sports car of all time" thing going for them, you might get to shave a few grand off of one if you give it two more years or so
but maybe not as much as you think since they're not really a chrysler product and people who buy them know that
>FIat
>more unrelaible thanany other european brand
pick one
The Fiat uses the transmission from the NC, which may be a good thing considering the troubles that Mazda/Aisin has had with the ND manual.
The boomers would probably be madder that their fat asses can't fit in the car and that there's not enough cup holders.
>turbo
>only makes 164hp
BRZ/FRS would be a much better option for the price
Are you absolutely retard?
The car is built by mazda, the interior uses the same parts but even more refined with alcantara coverings, the engine has been proven to be bulletproof and can easily be tuned up to 300 hp without affecting its reliability and last but not least the 124 uses the NC Miata transmission instead of the glass one found in the ND.
>Fiat
>Dieselgate
pick one
Keep in mind the ND platform is very lightweight so that 160 hp gets you a very comparable power to weight ration of a brz/frs
>Is mazda that much more reliable?
Surprisingly no, Mazda are now one of the least reliable brands on the market.
>no hardtop
fuckin' dropped
>what is torque
>what is area under the graph
>what is a tune
I'd avoid Abarth because Abarth specific parts can be pretty expensive and a pain in the ass to find.
It's 10 years of driving so yeah it's a good measure you poor retard
Fiat 500s haven't been out anywhere for 10 years, and only 5 years in burgerland. Highway miles are not nearly as hard on a car as city stop and go.
I love my abarth. The engine is fantastic if you're in the powerband, if not you have like no torque.
It's a Miata
I mean it more as in decorations. I believe a 500 Abarth hub cap was 30 pounds or more. Maybe it's not the case for the 124s but I'd check body panel, badge, etc prices and availability just in case.
i drive a 500 with the multiair engine in it as a food delivery car in hard city traffic and have been for a year, and outside of oil changes and fluid top offs it hasn't given me a lick of shit
>Abarth
>Hub caps
We're not talking about classic cars here. Parts are very easy to find.
Whatever you call that thing in the middle then.
they're typically called center caps
Would be the correct one but yeah. I guess I've spoken out of my ass.
Makes sense. Thanks.
>10 years of driving
>worthy of praise
Yeah ok dude
Sorry we don't have stop and go traffic and windy city streets everywhere?
>Knowing shit
>You
Kill yourself faggot
>pot
>calling the kettle black
Peak torque is at 2.5k till 6k.
It's almost the whole powerband.
Cheap ECU flash easily gets you to 200 on any version of the 124, giving you way better power:weight than the 86.
>muh hps
>doesn't know what curb weight is
go wait at the bus stop kid, the adults with cars that go vroom are talking here.
Mazda has already revised the ND manual twice, and may still have not totally fixed the problem. Most of the failures reported on miata.net are on the 2016 Club model, and someone was hypothesizing that the extra stress on the tranny case from the LSD could be the cause. I have the V2 in my 2017 ND, and while the only known V2 failure was from someone who races the shit out of his cars, I'm wondering if I should plan on getting the EMCO version of the transmission used in the Cup ND.
I also read something about possible issues with the valve springs, especially if you raise the rev limiter to 7500 without getting an upgraded cam with new springs. Who knows, the 124 could wind up being the more reliable version of the ND.
I have the engine. If you hit the gas at 1700rpm, you get nothing. 2100rpm, barely anything and then it hits you all at once at 2500 rpm when the boost finally pressurizes.
Most of your normal driving is below 2500rpm
If you're still around OP, what would you like to know?
Hey I like the stripes you put on there kek
Haha did the stripes, front bumper lip, and the side mirrors.
Trying to decide what tuning option to go with now, as I'll get that done once winter gets here
I think eventually I will do a tune. I think this tiny hatch will be great fun with 230tq
Compared to a miata nb. How fun is it?
Omg LPG owns a 124
maximum meme mode engaged
Ps how is it/why over the mx-5?
Pps silver or black windscreen surround looks better (Ppps the answer is black don't let audi's poor taste fool you)
Pppps i love you please quit your new life and go back to selling cars.
It's more fun than my 1995 NA was
>why over the x-5
-I like how the exterior/interior look far better
-I prefer the turbo 1.4 over mazda's na 2.0
-everyday ride quality is better, while still being flatter though the corners than a mx-5
Damn might get this instead of another mr2. Need a fun gas sipper.
>another backwards corolla
why would you do that to yourself
Was the most fun i had in a car. Currently have a c5 z06. Its fun on track day but thats it.
the sw20 i owned was far and away the most unreliable pos i've ever encountered so i'm just not sure what the memes are all about i guess
Anybody else think the Fiata looks more like a Miata than the new Miata? The taillights and headlights look more similar to previous generations and the body shape looks like an NA with a higher beltline.
Nagh my aw11 was fun. Sc. Its not the best little car by any means. And its mostly memes but it was fun and it felt right u know? That feeling when u find a car that was meant for u
i think the problem is that i had higher hopes for a FI mid-engine car designed almost 30 years ago than were realistic, but i imagine the NA aw11 is simpler and easier to live with
Nope, a bitch to work on. Basicly had to drop/lift the engine to do anything. But the engine was solid most of the time. Theres a reason they are cheap. What r u looking for user
How much does an Abarth version run? Could a pretty nice preowned one be picked up in a year or two?
The joke is "or repair daily" and it's not even true you buttblasted yuropoor.
How is it to daily it, is trunk space too small for errands, should I go manual or paddle shifters, i live by a city
>why the bad rep
chrysler
Yeah, because the person who penned the new Miata decided to throw some Ferrari and Lambo shit into the mix, while whoever designed the Fiata decided to keep the English roadster theme going.

No offence but this sounds like a critic moved to the GT-86.
>No torque, sloooow.
I'm sure it's not the case with you but when you need power just use the gearbox and drop a gear to go in the powerband as needed.
It's not that an automatic gearbox wouldn't do that automatically.
When you're driving in traffic at 30mph in third, at 1900 rpm, in a car with 150/170lb-ft of torque, and you floor it, there's literally no acceleration for about 3 seconds, then it all hits at once.
I love the car, but this is the downside to boosting the shit out of a 1.4l. Out of the powerband, it's just a choked up low compression tiny engine.
I used to have an even smaller engine, a Volkswagen 1.2 TSI with 105 hp on a 1010 kg car, and I remember it pulling at 1900 rpm with the output become consistent at 2500 rpm.
Had zero problem with it and I live in a city, as I said just drop one gear and you'll be fine.
The gearbox is there for a reason
Reminds me of my Subaru. Was my one big gripe with the car. N/A but only 150 ft/lb.
>why the bad rep
You still have massive turbo lag.
I don't even get why you are arguing right now. The whole thing started with the quote, "The engine is fantastic if you're in the powerband, if not you have like no torque." And you are arguing that you just should be in the powerband all the time. Those are two different issues.
By saying you need to shift down, which I usually do, is in agreement with the massive torque gap.
And that 1.2 is a sweet motor. Peak torque occurs at 1400 rpm.
At least the car weighs a lot less than your xv. They still did have made a factory turbo version. It would be absolutely killer on the amateur really circuit.
Interior's still a tad small but I would have bought a turbo XV if they made one. It was a really good car.
How's your thoughts on the hemi so far? I've got an idea in the back of my head after a few years of the fiat, when my equity position is good and I know I won't get as assraped by insurance that I want a 392 challenger.
I love it. Trans is soccer mom tier laggy which is a bummer but the engine is a peach. Happy to roll along at the factory limited 110 all day long. I'm not sure it's worth buying a programmer just to see what it'll go to without the limiter.
