Ive recently reinstalled the game and holy shit the engines sound pornomatic. Cayman S with custom headers and 8k rev range, no tarbu, mother of christ the smoothness. Then there is the CLK with teutonic fluid mechanical V8 rumble, the Mustang with the blublublu and deep growling revs (4k is the sweetspot), the Carrera GT with insane shrieks or the Camaro SS with the classic brapbrap and burnouts on every corner.

Did any following NFS game ever come back to being worthwhile and with such a replay value? I think this is where the NFS line fell off.

Some people blame Underground for introducing ricing, some blame MWs success for lackluster parts after it, but it was the last truely great NFS.

U2, MW and Carbon was the peak. After carbon came pro street i believe. And that was sorta the beginning of the end

Underground was a bit less arcadey as HP2 and took the 2F2F neon glow scene with all its might, U2 at least gave us open world and a whole lot of tweaking options, maybe even the most of the franchise.

Tried Shift 2, found the controls to be really wonky, no possibility of adjusting a steering wheel/pedals on the fly like in GRID. Good effort, but falling short because muh EA, I suppose.

My heart breaks when I think of all the effort that went into Porsche Unleashed with the history data, performance upgrades and whatnot, and the modern NFS just being your typical EA cash grab with DLCs amounting up to tripple of original game price.

NFS games have a certain aesthetic to them that other racing games don't have. they look great and sound great.
NFS 2015 has incredible graphics (to me) and a great atmosphere (that could be even better if they had fucking worked on it and given us a downtown area and made the game more lively) but the fucking handling is atrocious and literally prevents me from starting up the game 50% of the time. I legit think to myself if it's worth the bullshit before starting up the game, sometimes I'm desperate, sometime's I'm not.

Most of the cars are, Elise handles something fierce, but just doesnt have the mass to ram in police chases.

Honestly though, the Punto lacks a bit in acceleration but it's got a surprising amount of top speed and through the corners it just STICKS.

I've never bothered giving a shit about NFS after Underground 2 and I always assumed the artwork car for Most Wanted was a R34 GTR.

But seriously, it seems like everyone disliked HP2, but i've played the shit out of it.
GFX was great, car were awesome (M5, Z8, Carrera GT and other gems), i liked the game.

And the Porshe unleased was at the leven none of the NFS games had.

For me personally - The Run was also great mainly due to the scenery. (the console clickery made me vomit desu)

Carbon is basically the one that makes the most sense in terms of car dueling. E.g. In order to duel an Audi R8 you need another tier 3 car like a Murcielago, you cant fight for shit with a maxed out Brera.
