I took a little time to consider this and we kept an eye on how it felt during QA testing, but ultimately I decided in amending the text, I was able to pepper Noire's dialogue with a touch more skepticism of the fictional board via her little snarky remark about something that was derivative of what was going on in nepgen at the time. (Side note, it's hilariously weird to think about 1) nepgen having trends and 2) I've been lurking here for 2 years.) I thought I was doing a service to that moment in the text, and usually when references to N-Chan came up in the text (re: Steamax trolling with that NepNowa comment), I'd try to see if I could make it more "localized" or relatable to the West by drawing inspiration from things I'd see floating here. The game breaks the 4th wall so much and I had capitalized on the opportunity. I do find this board and its users endearing, as silly as things can get on here sometimes.

While ultimately I didn't care for that line other than getting a small chuckle from it after getting the reference and groaningafter realizing how nepgen is going to flip when more people see it, I think in a way you overdid it. What I mean is that the "spanking" part of the line in a way overtook the entire scene, people were focusig on thatisteadof the fact that Nchan shouldn't be believed, secondly this makes the line incredibly dated when viewed from the perspective of time, same could be said about the Blanc marriage proposal or NEPNOWA IS DEAD, but all of that only applies if you were to know the origin of these memes. Actually this gives me an idea for a question, are jokes used in the japanese script(when they reference internet stuff) also based on more recent stuff that becomes dated?

It's a double-edged sword of sorts. On one hand, I think it is an appropriate localization choice; after all, you're taking the Western equivalent as your basis. On the other hand, it just enables or justifies people within /nepgen/ to continue certain trends indefinitely, which can be grating over time.

You say this because we love to suck foreigners' dicks, but honestly we have a lot of material that could be used for a Neptunia games. In HDN, the "Neptune does what you all don't" could perfectly be replaced by "Neptune est plus forte que vous toute" (ok it sounds kinda silly and some further adaptation could be needed but I don't remember perfectly the scene so...). Also Kaamelot's references just like you did, of course not the most obvious one. We could even use some bad translation of 80s' anime like Nicky Larson and Dragon Ball.

I hear ya. This is interesting to think about. Yeah, several jokes in the Japanese script are referencing internet trends of yesteryear, things that come and go. I'd offer that considering the nature of the game, it would be very difficult for it to be timeless in the way that I feel like you're inferring considering the Goddesses themselves are references to very real, very temporal pieces of hardware. To that effect, so much of this game is temporal, which is to say, I don't approach it with a desire to maintain a feeling of "timelessness" about it in terms of references made or the content of the humor.
