There's no real way to know until you do it. For new players they try to simply match them with other new players before the system gets a feel for the mmr but if you're grouped with them it'll probably factor yours in too.

I love how healers think they are the center of the fights.

Here is how fights work:

Tank is the anchor.
You play around where the tank is.
Main healer, such as Ana should always follow the tank near by.
DPS are either near the tank or roaming based on which they are.
Secondary healer is also near the tank, but can sometimes go with the roamers.

If your tank walks away from you, you fucking follow him.

Healing tanks are good for 3 reasons:
Healing armor is actually the best use of your healing in a vacuum.
You get ulti faster.
Tanks have ridiculously good damage, with the exception of D.va who trades damage for a good ultimate and being basically indestructible.

If you have ever said something like "You ran away from me, I couldn't heal you then Genji went on me" you are fucking bad. You stay near the tank so that A: you can continue healing people whilst Genji goes on you, and B: you can have your allies handle Genji since no healer in the game can actually do that outside of Ana landing a sleep dart.

And yes: I play healer all the fucking time and I'm quite good at it.
