Blown seals for sure.
You can try compression testing to make it sure but it's most likely the case.

He said it idles fine. Had it idling for an hour (yikes) and it will rev to 7k. Just dies coming back to idle

That's even worse. They're just as unreliable, but they're even slower.

That's what I was thinking. Seems it's common to clean/replace the maf, coils and wires to fix issues like that.
