Question: I started playing recently and I reached level 40. I'm at the part of the gunsmith quest and he's asking me to dismantle legendary or rare shotguns for parts.

But since I reached level 40 the amount of weapons I get nowadays is minimal, all the engrams turn into weapon or armor material.

Is there a good way of getting these?

Should I buy vendor gear @380 light?

If you can buy vendor gear to boost you up to 380 it'd save a lot of time. Then people would let you hop in on raids where the drops will be higher (400 on challenge modes)

yeah, thats a good way to get to 380. rep packages, strikes, etc are still the best ways. use that vanguard streak wisely. when you queue up for the strike playlist, try to play at least 5 or more for good rep gains and better chance at legendary drops.

when you are turning in engrams, always make sure you have the highest light gear you have on. that means every time you decode an engram, check to see if its higher than your current gear, equip, rinse and repeat.

I used to play on PS3, a friend gave me a copy of the game on PS4 with all the dlc but the newest one. I was wondering how the game is now, would it be worth buying the new dlc (and I guess some PSPlus) to play again? I mostly did pvp when I played.

The game has changed significantly but play through the DLC's to decide whether or not you want the final one. If you still enjoy the pvp custom pvp matches were added along with sparrow racing.
Buy PSPLus and pick up Killing Floor 2 and Life is Strange for free
