Chevy - FiST/FoST Competition When?

Why is Chebby being gay and not putting their 2.0 ecotec in the cruze hatchback making 250ish hp and bringing back and modernizing the LK9 lsj from the Saturn ion redline with 190ish hp in the Sonic with a turbo instead of a supercharger

That shit will sell like hot cakes in yuroland and will bring healthy competition in the US hot hatch segment.

Till then our only options in burger land is FiST and FoST and maybe the boring golf.

Its a Daewoo..Nuff' Said

People here aren't going to spend $30k on a fwd hatch when they can get a V6 Camaro for the same price.

I was thinking they do what Ford does and charge 21k for the Sonic "RS" and the Cruze Hatch "RS" would be 24k.

I know they have an "RS" trim already but they keep the same lame ass engine instead of the 2.0 ecotec or a possibly updated 1.8 w/ 190+hp.

They need to work on the cruze styling tho, still looks like a retarded fish.

>Till then our only options in burger land is FiST
You know the Fiesta ST is dead in America now right?

The days of affordable, fun to drive shitboxes is slowly coming to an end. They will all be replaced by CUVs

autoblog.com/2017/09/15/next-generation-ford-fiesta-st-wont-be-sold-in-america/

Ford literally cannot compete with GM lol

I don't know where you're getting that from the article posted... Small cars just aren't selling in the US regardless of the brand. People here still have a hard-on for trucks, suv's and small crossovers, it FUCKING sucks because I'm a hot hatch fan myself...

Opel Corsa OPC, Opel Astra OPC

Oh wait, burgers don't get these :^)

>The days of affordable, fun to drive shitboxes is slowly coming to an end
What's wrong with the Focus ST? no really. there's also the GT86 and that Yaris performance package from Toyota. my guess for the Fiesta being dead is most people would just rather have the Focus and
>made in mexEEco
Then i don't get it. the GT86 shows no sign of going anywhere neither does the Miata and Yota supposedly introducing a performance Yaris and apparently there's enough interest for GM to not only sell small cars but make them in the US as well (chevy sonic is built here so GM must not be hurting on sales as they haven't moved production to chink land or mexico to cut production cost)

>Ford makes Fiesta ST to compete with Sonic RS
>Ford discontinues the FiST because they cannot compete with GM and never will

>Till then our only options in burger land is FiST and FoST and maybe the boring golf.
Git gud.

FCA Products are gross and sell like dogshit. What I would do to get a Clio RS to the states...

>thinks Fiats are unreliable
>wants a french car
kek, you burgers crack me up

I'm still completely happy to rip apart cobalt SS' for my forged stuff.

The real question is when are we going to get another turbo-4 gm model that isn't this 170hp Cruze bullshit.

Also I'm pretty sure that car isn't domestically produced.

>I'm pretty sure that car isn't domestically produced.
It is.

> That shit will sell like hot cakes in yuroland
> there aren't even Chevrolet dealers here
lmao

The Fiesta ST was sold in Europe long before this gen

The FiST was sold in Europe long before the Sonic ever existed. FACT

I work for an automotive supplier and have worked for Tier 1 OEM suppliers for 10 years, where i work currently makes underbody and structural components for both GM AND Ford vehicles. GM is CONSTANTLY idling their production facilities because their cars aren't selling. We (the side of the plant that produces GM parts) are in the middle of a 4 week shutdown right now because GM has over 160 days of inventory on their lots (industry standard is 60 days) because they can't move units. Whereas the Ford side of our facility is only down a week (and this was a long planned shutdown unlike the surprise GM one) due to seasonal market adjustments. From were I'm standing it looks like Ford does a better job of planning and moving inventory, whereas GM keeps overproducing and and not selling. It looks like GM is having a hard time keeping up with Ford to me...

>What's wrong with the Focus ST?

Shit reliability.

I believe that's Mazda's territory, not the FoST.

They already build a hot hatch that is faster than a FiST and damn as quick as a FoST.

>Engine made since the 80s that's known to be bulletproof
>No stupid computers or bullshit to go wrong
>Muh turbo
Git gud boi

How is that even possible under the same manufacturer that uses the same engines and tranny parts?

>he doesnt like sanic

wew boi

dat korean design
dat american built

JUST SLAP IN THE CORSA OPC DRIVETRAIN YOU FUCKS
REEEEEE

>BOTH this and the IDX get scrapped
>get crossover trash instead
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'd like either some sort of Hot Spark or a 500 Abarth. I love me a tiny hatchback.
I drove a base-model Spark for 3 days as a loaner car, and I quite liked it. Comfortable enough, plenty of space, and I thought is was good looking. The 500 Abarth is also great, and I'm waiting for a sub-$10k used one to pop up.

Chevy already make shit unreliable hatches for vapefags.

Just import one, it's a free country.

>What's wrong with the Focus ST?
Nothing, but how much longer do you think it will be made?

>there's also the GT86 and that Yaris performance package from Toyota
The GT86 is 26k starting. I'm talking about cars under 23k. The Yaris you're talking about is a limited edition and won't be sold in America

>Then i don't get it. the GT86 shows no sign of going anywhere neither does the Miata
The GT86 probably won't be made after 2020. The Miata is nice, but you have to spend 28k to get one with a LSD. Not exactly cheap.

Do they even make these new anymore?

Isn't this thing like 35k?

>Thinking GM or Nissan-Renault will ever make an affordable, lightweight, red car ever again. MFW!

Shit meant to say RWD. Fuck phones

>>Thinking GM or Nissan-Renault will ever make an affordable, lightweight, red car ever again. MFW!

You know it.

I fucking hate GM but I can't help but kind of like how that Sanic looks in the RS trim.

It's a Daewoo. It's probably being sold there as a Opel or something.

>Isn't this thing like 35k?

It's also over 3500lb. Half the fun is you're supposed to feel how light the car is in a hot hatch compared to traditional sport cars.

I still can't believe somebody had enough taste at GM to design this, and this someone else had enough taste to approve it going as a public concept.

Daewoo is chebby here.
Opel is Opel. You get Opels as Buicks

performance yaris was announced to be 100 units none to the usa

no it isn't

Finally a hot hatch tread

I've asked around and most car guys who know about the fiesta st's performance are put off by the price tag. It really should have been a few thousand cheaper if they really wanted to get them off the lot (or they could make the interior not look so damn cheap I mean cmon make it worth our while)

The sonic turbo is too anemic to compete with the likes of the ST and GTi so idk why they even make it. Maybe it's a match for the veloster but I mean who drives that shitbox

GTi is the most expensive hot hatch and it still sells with only 210 HP in a 4 banger so who's the stupid one?

I get what you're saying.
That said, there's no reason to use the LSJ/LK9 in the Sonic.
Instead, use the 200 HP 1.6L Turbo from the Buick Cascada.

>The sonic turbo is too anemic to compete with the likes of the ST and GTi so idk why they even make it.
It doesn't take much to push the 1.4L Turbo of the Sonic to 200 HP.

>The GT86 probably won't be made after 2020.
Toyota already confirmed there will be a second generation...

people aren't buying new cars because they can't afford them.
>America is the richest country on the planet!
But 90% of that wealth is held by 6 people. More than half the country doesn't make enough money to survive, let alone buying a car.

Then why do I see fucktons of 2013+ crossovers wasting my time on the roads. Suee there are 1990s poor fag corrolas here and there but vast majority of cars on the road are newer.

Dude
Just finance
Lmao

>(or they could make the interior not look so damn cheap I mean cmon make it worth our while)
>Complaining about interior quality in a econobox selling for 20k.
You're a special kind of stupid, arnt you?

Link? I don't believe it until I see a concept or mule driving around. Toyota applied for the Celica name already. I could easily see Toyota killing the 86 and replacing it with a Fwd semi-sporty car like the Scion tC

Why buy when you can lease at super low rates and swap for a new model a couple years down the road? That's what a lot of people with money are doing these days.

>Link?
roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/news/a31838/toyota-confirms-a-second-generation-86-is-in-the-works/

Autocar isnt a great source which is where the news originated. That article was written a year ago when the refreshed 86 just came out. Why would Toyota confirm the death of a model at that time?

But I will remain hopeful. I just hope the 2nd generation doesn't get even heavier and more bloated. The MY17 is already heavier and getting stupid gimicks like the gmeter in the dash.

>sell like hotcakes in yurop
nobody buys american cars except fords in Europe, they are infamous for being badly built and outdated.

That's why the Mustang is the best selling sports coupe in the world?

Ford is killing it rn wtf do u mean?

I said that american cars ,except for ford, are infamous for being badly built and outdated. Im not a native speaker, did i fuck something up?

>200hp sonic
How would it handle? I wanna see this now

Wheelhop and torque steer everywhere

Opel doesn't sell rebadged America shit
only Americans get rebadged Opel

>Opel doesn't sell rebadged America shit
>Built in Delaware, USA
>sold in Europe as an Opel

wrong.
that thing was (because it exist no more) built in the Schwanenberg factory on Bremen

It wasn't, and neither was the Speedster if you're confusing that with the GT.

u got prankd bro
I was just pretending

>Do they even make these new anymore?
Yes and they're very cheap and fun.

Opel sold nearly 8000 of these fucking things. 4000 in just 1 year. I wonder how well the Camaro would sell in Europe if it was call "Opel Camaro"

can an 6 foot 3 fat ass fit?

also does the exhaust sound as amazing as i think it does

>Yes
>Absolutely yes.
6'3" is probably the limit. The seat goes back pretty far. And the exhaust is actually boner inducing. Even on the road when you nail it, you get pops and cracks and this awesome howl

you can just buy a Camaro here via your Opel dealership, lmao?
just go up and ask them to import one.

It has a chevy badge though. i'm thinking it would sell better with an Opel one as Chevy is nowhere near as familiar to Euros as Opel is. same with Chevy vs Holden in Australia. any GM car that gets sold in ausland is badge'd as a Holden to avoid as much confusion as possible and ease people into the car from a familiar brand.

Jeez I can't believe it's still around.

It looks like it's 10 years old. I doubt they will replace it with a new abarth though

>Chevy is nowhere near as familiar to Euros as Opel is
are you retarded?
do you think that Euros don't know what a Cheby is?

>I doubt they will replace it with a new abarth though
m8...

They probably will, but they would need to replace the 500 first with a new model which is unlikely because they sell like crazy here.

I'm all for exporting the Camaro to Europe as an Opel, but the Camaro name would be dropped. IMO, it's be called the Opel Manta in Europe.

Shrink it down to 3/4 the size and weight, tweak the styling a bit to have it fit in with their current lineup and call it the Manta.

The new Camaro is already smaller than the old one. And the next generation may be smaller still. But Opel won't get it.
Opel isn't GM anymore.
Watch as the French ruin Opel in the coming years

> literally the two best hot hatch creators molded together
> ruin
lol

>best hot hatch creators
ummm

That's not a Chevy Sonic.
youtube.com/watch?v=4cFOFgHjQT4

yes?
that thing ain't got shit on the 208 GTi

>But Opel won't get it.
>Opel isn't GM anymore.
Welp, there goes what would've been one easy solution to increasing sales.

> more Camara than GT 86
lmao

208 GTi doesn't have Superior VTAX

not needed

I'm talking about a new generation. Isn't pic related essentially same as it was 5 years ago?

thats's the new generaton

>That shit will sell like hot cakes in yuroland
breaking news from the surface:
Chebby pulled out of yurop 3 years ago!
Main target of sonic, known here as aveo was 1.companies for low tier sales reps 2.old people. It was basically Dacia tier. none of these cares about powah!

Nobody deliberately drives opel. These are mostly fleet cars. Corsa OPC gets FiSTed while Astra OPC sucks Megane Sport's dick

Enjoy your Buicks!

Tsuchiya loved the Megane RS.

>Corsa OPC gets FiSTed
t. no clue amerifat
the FiST is like
maybe the 5th best hot hatch you can buy, people rathre buy the Opel.

Everyone leases the fuck out of Insignias though. Up there with the Passat as most common midsize sedan.

I thought you just said you don't have chebby there?

We had Chebby for a few years, but only their rebadged Daewoos.

Needless to say, they sold like shit.

The European Aveo was VERY different from the Sonic Americans got. It's actually very possible the American Sonic variant would've sold well

It made be a squishy, overpriced, pigfat piece of shit, but my god is the Cascada pretty looking.

I laff when I found out the euro spec sonic , whatever the fuck it was called there had 98 horsepower.

Top Kel m8

Pretty sure it was always called the Aveo here.

We got the hot Corsa variants instead though.

Well then that's why I was saying maybe it was rebadged as something else over there. I can't imagine they'd pass up a chance to sell a subcompact in yurop if they're bothering to sell it in burgerland.

They did, called it the Aveo, and the Euro-spec models were fucking abysmal. Weak engines, terrible build quality, total shit to drive.

oh LOL. Wrong guess. Yurofag here. You won't fool anyone that Opel is more than a shitbox (and rustbucket also). I guess you or your mom drive Opel 'cause amount of opelposting today looks like classic case of Stockholm syndrome.

did it not have the "corvette" tuning the american sonic had? because i could see it being "ok" with 98hp if it atleast handled competently

because goddamn is this thing surprisingly fun to drive for a "subcompact" and 138hp is enough to have some fun in it

>motorauthority.com/news/1062504_toyota-gr-likely-to-be-branded-trd-in-us-launch-standalone-sports-car

toyota GR is making a standalone sports cars, it's probably going to be using the ND miata platform since they just increased ties with mazda

That's only on US-market Sonics, according to Wikipedia.

>ford
>better then opel handling
lmao go read a book nigger

damn the euro version got cucked pretty hard then.

i dont see why they couldnt get the engine options available here in the usa

the 1.4 turbo gets damn near 40mpg and even the 1.8 is 34mpg at 138hp
