Does anyone know BDO?

BinaryMan
BinaryMan

They pay well, but work you so hard you burn out.
Turn around time is usually 2 years for cubicle workers.
At end of financial year 20 hour days for new staff is not unheard of.
Also compartmentalised work structure.

Best places to get prestige on your CV and then get out.
People who believe they're going to get a job and become directors there are a meme.

be a fun, yet appropriate person with a previous internship and you're in

kizzmybutt

be Junior
took a class in transfer pricing, really want to try it out
applied as an intern to all Big 4
only PWC replied, got an interview
went really well
got denied the second interview
Now I'm a senior. All I have is 6 years of working at the grocery store under my belt.

cum2soon

Big 4 cuck here. The pay is actually less than government job or IB. The training and skills development is exceptional tho.

KPMG are good. They do my taxes. They offer all sorts of accounting services.

Deloitte has a building on the same street - it's a bit taller so I assume they offer more accounting services than KPMG.

what is an accountant doing that cant be done by a database?

BlogWobbles
BlogWobbles

Technically, a database can't do anything.

Advise and plan. Although in time, you could develop decent algorithms to deal with this.

How is advisory/consulting for tax llm holders? Pay? Hours? Is doing just tax work better?

what do you do there? can u tell us a through-out-the-day ? like do come to your office, jack off, eat some food, make hella bank, play some vids, then go home? or is it like back breaking work ?

You were supposed to reply "People who know do" you fucker

Deadlyinx

The better question is what influence or opportunity can a database bring to a business? How long until its compilers are bested by competition?
How long will it be valid?
What if there's a mistake which is repeated thousands of times with thousands of clients?

People are still what make business works.

Sharpcharm

Why?

takes2long

I'm in advisory, so probably can't say much about other service lines. The work mostly comes from engagements (internal/external audit/review as agreed with the clients). The work load can vary from super busy to chill af. The clients are charged on an hourly basis and the rates vary from graduates to partners. I personally enjoy the work but in terms of salary, it's actually less competitive than other major firms especially IB.

lostmypassword
lostmypassword

FWIW here's the rates for KPMG if you were to engage them for tax advisory

Partner hours - $1,290p/h
Senior manager hours - $985p/h
Manager hours - $770p/h
Senior consultant hours - $565p/h
Consultant hours - $230p/h

They discount the above rates by 20% if you are an individual client (i.e. not corporate)

I was a vacationer at EY. Can anyone tell me what my chances of getting hired are?

Methshot
Methshot

Where are you based in user?
I imagine the rates are relatively similar across all 4.

PackManBrainlure
PackManBrainlure

Pretty high I say because sometimes they are more inclined to hire someone with previous exposure. Unless you fucked up badly during the tenure, chances are you will be contacted for grads.

Burnblaze
Burnblaze

Australia so rates are in AUD

Firespawn
Firespawn

Which firm?

Australia here also.

The rates you posted are what they charge the client, not what they're actually paid right?

I've calculated grad consultant is about $28 an hour AUD?

AwesomeTucker
AwesomeTucker

Those are charge out rates.
Grad auditors are on a bit more than $28 an hour. But it changes from office to office. I know that Wollongong grads are on a little less than us Sydney grads

Audit for kpmg here.
Basically in busy periods I'll spend my days out at a client office. Doing things like discussion with management to understand this or that or your more standard accounting stuff like mapping a trial balance and running analysis.
One thing I will say. If the idea of having a desk. A place to keep your stuff and put up pictures and shit. Tax is for you not audit. And kpmg is not for you cause we did away with set desks this year

You work longer hours in IB though.

You wouldn't happen to be the guy who's trying to arrange that tax agreement between Australia and a Slavic country that I can't remember right now. Might be Croatia but I'm not sure.?

I'd love to do do advisory at pwc, but I don't think my resume is stacked enough. No relevant work experience and my gpa of 4.5 out of 5 (between A (5) and B (4)).

Maybe I could sneak my way in? Identify as female and get hired to fill a quota

Firespawn

I work at Deloitte because of biz actually. I got very interested in cryptos because of memes, then into blockchain. Then got a good idea and went to a hackathon to try it out.

I didnt win the hackathon but deloitte was a sponsor and loved my stuff. I now work in their blockchain department with IBM.

BlogWobbles

currently a PwC employee and I love it here. I would highly recommend PwC over any of the other big4 firms. There is a reason why we are on top this year and probably have arguably the best paid staff overall.

Yeah. We have a client who's basically getting us to petition the government to form a tax agreement with some country to help him get out of double tax.
I'm guessing it ain't you though now

Burnblaze

Interned once, had to help make a powerpoint to draw in ivy league graduates. I vividly remember instering and retouching glossy family portraits of senior management to highlight the great work life balance while drinking my third grande americano at 9pm

Deloitte handles my family LLC's taxes and accounting, theyre not outstanding but they work accurately and correctly so that means theyre excellent

Upward mobility is absolute trash, most partners and directors come from different companies (largely other big 4 companies), too much loyalty is looked down upon like if youre not getting headhunted or getting offers constantly there must be something wrong with you, which in a way is true but eh

Sir_Gallonhead
Sir_Gallonhead

He shouldn't need to go that far - wouldn't he just claim tax credits from 1 country and use them to offset taxes owed to the other country?

That's at least the wizardry done to my AU/USA taxes and I'm pretty sure EVERY country has a section for "tax credits" from foreign taxes paid... *shrug*

I work at PwC Legal, the experience you get at the firm is incredible. However, you honestly aren't expected to stay there for more than a few years. I've seen a lot of mobility between the big 4, that's more or less how you move upwards and get a decent wage increase.

It's fucking hard though, I hate law.

StonedTime

Easy lie on your resume. This shit isnt that hard /biz:
Find some bullshit university in china or make one
Give myself "awards" "scholarships" and "degree"
gain basic skills you would have learned in class instead online for free
put on resume and learn a little bit of Mandarin (say your classes where in English to cover your ass; don't apply to places where people speak Mandarin)
get a shit ton of Linked In connections and endorsements for like $12 online
put experience from some bankrupt company (very hard to get info on)
do your homework online (so you dont look like a total retard and at least sorta know how to do your job)
get hired

Fuzzy_Logic
Fuzzy_Logic

friend and I found a company
company does, for all intents and purposes, absolutely nothing
give ourselves "work histories" at this organization
started as a lackey, worked way up ladder, etc. etc.
"Secretary"
"Client Support Specialist"
"Client Support Manager"
"Project Manager"
"Senior Project Coordinator"
he is my reference
I am his reference
CV lookin' fly as fuck
apply for management jobs
need 5-7+ years experience
no relevant education or training?
no problem; google exists
interview time
make up stuff for when they ask about challenging clients and experiences where I grew etc etc.
get hired, 130k to start
no idea what I am doing; google random stuff relevant to position
year passes
get praise for great management style, team cohesion, etc.
bosses give me raise
another year passes
they still have no idea; continuously get accolades and meet "incentives" and "goals" they expect

what a long, strange trip it's been

I have heart from many mates that the selection process for strategy consulting and much more kinds of business jobs is even harder in PwC than in any other big four. Is that true?

RavySnake

BlogWobbles

Depends what you mean by "stay there for more than a few years."

Staff/Fresh out of college - expected to move to a more senior role within three years.

Senior/Experienced - expected to move to a manager-type role within three to five years.

After that, you cap out and are at the mercy of politics and slots.
