Oh man, I'm already feeling the money grind bullshit, since they're only given per mission and not per mob killed. Also, do levels actually do anything? They don't affect stats at all, other than Item Slots.

This game could really use some damn polishing, for example, you can't even view or change your equipment from the menu, you need to the weapons vendor or Team Room, the monster list doesn't show item drops, etc. Really fucking frustrating, and it's weird because of how much effort the developer obviously put into this combat RPG (even if it's shitty)

The thing is, the game is actually VERY well done. Some of the problems you have are all summed up in the phrase "it's a monster hunter porn game." Almost all of the mechanics work the same as monster hunter, with the exception of it being an ATB system.
You get the money and carves at the end of a hunt. You change gear at your item chest. You can't save mid-hunt. You track the monster on a map with interconnecting lines. You leap off of ledges you have a running start at. The underwear all has triangles on it. The guitar player buffs. The main girl is a bowgunner. Etc.
As for an "early game money grind" you have, you must be doing something wrong. I ran with that same party and I had no issues, and I almost never sold items to make ends meet. You don't need to upgrade gear very often, so don't worry about that until you see a character isn't barely making a dent. I almost never bought weapons, and only buy outfits just because I want to see what they are.
Hunter Rank affects your item slots to equip more gear, and the better gear requires more slots.

Not really. If you're already HR 20 you're at like the third set of missions or so. Just keep in mind that you can raise or lower the difficulty to decrease or increase rewards. The translation is shit in that it gets the difficulty names wrong.
It shouldn't be "easy, normal, hard." It should be "low rank, high rank, g rank" because that's how it works in monhun. You start with low rank with low rewards, beat that, move on to high rank, etc. If a new monster is kicking your ass and you're not making money, go fight a hard mode version of an older boss. They'll drop like triple the rewards and double the money.

I'm open on mechanics, but every H-game that has a longer opening cutscene and more dialogue than a regular JRPG can get fucked. No one gives a shit.
