The closest thing to shurikens is Bang being able to throw nails. He's basically a nail-themed ninja. There's also Hibiki if you want someone easier to start with.

Is it even worth buying these games for the story only? I like fighting games, but I'll never go online with these. Should I just watch the story?

I would say yes, it's a clusterfuck but a fun one

BB is the best fighting game when it comes to singleplayer content. Getting into the story is worth it if you plan on doing it properly, ie not just jump into a random installment and play it that way. Basically, play CT > CSE > CPE > CF, and don't skip anything.

Sweet! I saw CF on sale on PSN, and it reminded me how I've always wanted to jump into these games. I love the character designs. I heard that CF has no dub though, and watching some footage of CT, I rather like Ragna's English voice. Do all the games have Japanese dubs for the sake of consistency, at least?

For me it's Iron Tager. I enjoy the autistic setups I can do with the Gigantic Tager Driver and the Genesic Emerald Tager Buster

the kind no one should pick. she has high mobility but low damage, low hp, hurtboxes that extend beyond hitboxes, no dp or any defensive move to speak of outside of EA, and combos difficult enough that if you can do them you could pick up any high tier and instantly double your winrate without any practice.
